The richest warmest voice I ever heard. When Frank Sinatra heard he was in hospital dying, he called to say good bye. At the end of the conversation he said "I wish I could sing like you.'' Some compliment coming from a guy that sung as well as Sinatra.
I'm from the Philippines and do I wish I was old enough and aware of Matt Monro back then when he was doing many concerts here in my country. He's my no. 1 favorite British singer of all time.
I was chatting with a professional musician who has worked with all the top names, and I said how Matt's voice is my all time favourite. He replied that he worked with Matt Monro often and he was the nicest and kindest of them all, even paying for the orchestra/band's bar tab every night.
Matt Monro what a legendary singer sadly missed R.I.P Matt wonderful singer I am a Teddy Boy 📻🎵🎶 but love the crooner's just such classy singers you will never be forgotten Matt your songs will play some where in the world 🌎 always respect 🫶🤝🙏🤍💛💙
Matt Monro mentioned Philippines! Yes, My Way of Matt Monro is very famous in the Philippines. Everybody knew him and his songs 🙂 My mum and dad love all of his song.
Sorry you missed that privilege I had the privilege of seeing him many years ago when it is starting out performing in a small nightclub in Michigan who is excellent and they just went on from there to even being better. Commenting Barbara Gray
We went regularly to Blackpool & played on the car radio Matt’s cd re love songs all the way down & again all the way back “just pure magic” what a gorgeous voice.
The effortless way he delivers lyrics is the most important part of his way of singing…. All his live shows and he’s never made a slip of the tongue or slurred any words of his songs ever… he was well known for one take recordings of many huge hits… his style has been imitated many times but Not many cone close….
When was working for a travel agency, Mark Allen Travels in London, we handle his travel arrangements, I missed meeting him when I went to his home to hand over this plane ticket unfortunately he was not at home, what a shame I should say, I love singing his songs he is one of my favourite singers the best RIP Matt we miss you...

i didnt know that he went to visited jakarta. what a surprise me. because im from indonesia im glad to hear that. i wish i lived in his era so i could buy the tickets. RIP MM
A nice interview with Matt Monroe. We don’t hear his voice in the biography of him. I wonder why the interviewer suddenly asked him how England is doing economically! Matt speaks of the working men’s clubs, but of course they fell out of favour with the public, younger folks wanted discos and night clubs, not working men’s clubs. Then he asks Matt about The Falkland Islands! Luckily Matt is well informed, but not about countries claims to land - many countries have off mainland territories. Glad he mentioned Vera Lynn, she had a beautiful voice and a no. 1 album at age 100!
I collected Matt Monro’s album and I think I never missed any songs of him, until now I’m still listening his song at home and while I’m driving, what a great singer at all time. I saw his concert twice in Araneta coliseum in Manila and one in Cebu👌👌👌
One thing that stands out when I first hear Matt Monro sang, was his COOLNESS and FLAWLESS way of singing his songs. He was one of a KIND.. Nobody is like him.
Yes sir Matt, in 5he Philippines, not only your song "My Way" got number one, but as well as the Portrait of my l8ve, Youre closer to me, All of a sudden, Strangers in the night, Shadow of your smile, Born free, etc.
What a shame he had to die so young such a beautiful voice, he is one of those singers who sings like he means every word of what he sings rest in peace mr Monro
Monro seemed like a very down to earth person. Here was an international star who took time to visit a local record store to sign autographs in South Africa. He sold out audiences all over the world. Great interview.
I just hope my mam is waiting for me on the other side singing a matt monroe song . Its what I remember about my mam. One of her favourite singers . It's what I was brought up with. His voice can not be replaced xxx
Julie McIntyre It sounds like he has an upper respiratory bug here. Sounds like a sinus infection. His speaking voice was deeper and smooth, usually. And he just coughed in the interview. He also is in the horrid cancer battle, so his immune system, was off,
what year was this... Matt Monro had a concert here in the Philippines... my regret i wasnt able to see his concert... maybe i wasnt in the social media that time... and was busy with my work....thank u.... from manila, Philippines....

His voice could have been used for anything. For speeches, for recording documentaries just like Lorne Greene, and a little singing lol. Man what a voice.
Am Malaysian🇲🇾, we love Matt Monroe too. I spun his records, my sister bought them, at 7 yo on the turntable, am 64 today. His description of Jakarta wasnt very good, perhaps hes being honest. It probably was as such then. But Jakarta has improved much today, more so than Manila, PH.
He's talking about manila because he performed in araneta colesium Since 1966 and performed again in 1983 If You Don't Know Matt Also Dueted To Pilita Corrales in 1983
VERY cool to see...unfortunately, we lost Matt Monro not terribly long after this interview. Mr. Hunt, would you please correct his name in the title? No e at the end. Thx, and thanks for posting!
My late greet maybe, how are you my Idol, you mentioned, philippines, you most greet in my country, i am from PHILIPPINES, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, Pilipino MUCH LIKE YOU UNTIL NOW, ONE of IAM.
Great to see more of Matt on film. He looked and sounded a little sombre, maybe a little too much drink - how the man lived constantly under the influence of a bottle of liquor a day without much evidence is sad but true.
He died of liver cancer, that's what the alcohol did. By the time of this interview he had stopped. But, he was a chain smoker...which can't have helped 😕 RIP☘
I posted a review regarding Matt yesterday which I thought was very respectful to Matt now it's gon normanmayer it was after this interview Could someone please explain thanks
And the interviewer asks political questions to the musician, prompting doggedly. The interviewer sold his soul to the devil. Consequence? I don't know his name and neither do you. Too bad, one of the true great voices of the last century. RIP Matt.
The richest warmest voice I ever heard. When Frank Sinatra heard he was in hospital dying, he called to say good bye. At the end of the conversation he said "I wish I could sing like you.'' Some compliment coming from a guy that sung as well as Sinatra.
Wow I never knew that! What a complement. I completely agree with you he does the most rich voice...unlike anyone.
@@kikivanstraun7916 Sinatra was a huge fan of Munro. I cried when I heard what he said.
True enough, and he also sent Matt a telegram wishing him a speedy recovery.
I have heard of that he was one of Sinatra’s 3 favourite singers of all time. And he called him ‘the singer’s singer’.
In some ways he was better than Sinatra. From one boy singer to another was what Frank wrote to him. Great respect for supreme talent.
For me Matt Monro was in a class of his own. What a fabulous voice.
Matt has a wonderful speaking voice too.
Why that generation was blessed with these magnificent singers? Matt‘s voice is unique and legendary almost divine.
They grew up listening to good music
It really was …Andy Williams, Bobby Darin, The Righteous Bros, Al Martino, Sam Cooke and prior to that Nat Cole, The Platters….
I'm from the Philippines and do I wish I was old enough and aware of Matt Monro back then when he was doing many concerts here in my country. He's my no. 1 favorite British singer of all time.
Matt Monro, the man with the dreamiest voice ever, absolutely awesome singer :)

As i heard mentioned earlier, Mat could sing through the selections of a restaurant's menu and sound wonderful'
Great singer with a superbe voice..i love his songe and hear them nowadays....
Matt has always been one of my favorite vocalists. Would have loved to see him live.

Matt Monro music is my no.favorite of all times. Love it.
We went regularly to Blackpool & played on the car radio Matt’s cd re love songs all the way down & again all the way back “just pure magic” what a gorgeous voice.
What a genuine person, down to earth and he says “we” played, not I. An amazing voice right up there with the best of the best.
What a super chap! One of the best voices of all time in my humble opinion. My favourite is "days like these" Thanks Dennis for posting!!

All His songs were love by Filipinos .

Until now I still listen to his musics. He likes Philippines in his time.
Love this man ,what a voice ,,,never seen the interview before,,I loved it !!a man sadly missed ,,,❤️
Great to see this - there's far too little interview footage of this magnificent performer.
Thank you for your comment. He was the greatest!!
I can't find him on old Merv Griffin or Mike Douglas Shows
Matt Monro is my favorite singer and am very sorry for his early demise in this universe.
Filipinos love Matt Monro and all his songs are a favorite. I love this singer. He is my dad's fave also.
His singing of "On Days Like These" in the opening scene of The Italian Job is just sublime.
He is a great singer. PELITA CORRALES LOVES THIS MAN BECAUSE OF HIS MARVELOUS VOICE.
I always love Matt Monro and miss him so much. I sing in the shower and Matt has been my role model technically.

Why aren't there any Matt Monro sing alike? I would settle to hear anyone out there who can imitate Matt's voice and style.

Mister Matt Monro and Mister Andy Wallians, the greatest singers in the world.
thanks for your argue about my country matt (indonesia)
Brilliant
Very happy to learn that Mr. Monro was a TORY!!
If he was a Tory, then he forgot his roots like so many who make it big... Not vey generous of him.
nintendy What’s it like being a left-wing bigot ?
@@nintendy I don't think it's relevant. Politics shouldn't affect our view of a fantastic performer.

Yup, no prob. Just go to "edit" under Video Manager :)

Thank you for posting this. Great voice, good guy.... gone too soon, passed at 54, where the hell was God and his so called good work ?
God didn't MAKE him chainsmoke and binge drink for years on end. It's called free will in this case...
daddy longleg Very true. Free will. It’s sad a man of his talent, was reliant on two such horrid vices, to relax.
