  • In this video Big Tractor Power is out in the field with a 200 hp STEIGER Super Wildcat Tractor planting soybeans with a KINZE 3600 12/23 split row planter. This video shares the sights and sounds of planting soybeans in East Central Wisconsin. The video shares the Super Wildcat's tractors production history, specifications, and list price. Watch for an INTERNATIONAL 986 tractor and Deutz-Allis 6275 tractor to make appearances in the video working along side the STEIGER.

      Well, we just keep on farming. Lots of challenges with the high costs of fuel, fertilizer, seed and feed costs.

    I find it interesting that the Steiger articulated tractors predate the Matbro design by 5 years yet Matbro managed to license the design to Cat, IH and Allis- Chalmers, supposedly for $1m - must have been for an improvement of the design. Matbro now belong to Terex.

    Looks to be around Fon Du Lac area. I like to see the old classics doing the work. Just think a couple brothers building these things in a barn .

    Nothing wrong with old school. To me using GPS is like using a CNC...doesn't take much skill. All the thinking has been done for you.

    That Deutz-Allis is nice sight too (and rare?)
    I have seen only one Steiger in here Finland 😄, it was Cougar ST250.

      Deutz Allis tractors are not too rare. The Series I Steigers are pretty hard to find these days.

    When the Steiger was new, it was the big tillage tractor. Not that same size is planter tractor!

      Yes and no. The Wildcat and Super Wildcat were built for tillage and planting. The first STEIGER built was 238 hp in 1957. In 1959 a 105 hp model was built to puller seeders. From the start STEIGER built big and small models to cover tillage and seeding. The Wildcat was also marketed to run 12 row row crop cultivators in corn and soybeans.

      Very true. The biggest challenge is finding parts. With good thing with Steiger is that they use allot of common truck parts.

      My understanding is they used Euclid green because it was a paint available through a local mining/construction contact.

      The Super Wildcat went out of production in 1974. Series I Steigers are fairly hard to find today. I have seen two 1975 Super Wildcat II models in suctions this spring.
