The person who Hollywood chose as Drake was Mark Wahlberg but they took too long to make the script and get things rolling. So Wahlberg got too old and they offered Holland the roll as Drake while giving Sam's character to Wahlberg.

There are many legitimate criticisms of the HBO show, it's production, writing, acting, etc. When Joel and Ellie arrived to Jackson, Tommy and Maria were happy to see them, apologized for the necessary security measures, showed them kindness and hospitality, and gave them a fresh, hot meal. And what did Ellie do? She freaked out and acted like a maniac when one the the townfolk was watching them from a distance. She started yelling like she was in prison, very aggressive, rude and disrespectful. HBO Ellie is an annoying character. I'm rooting for the infected. Too bad the zombies barely exist in the show. Her acting is good. Took me a few episodes to get used to her as Eli. Because that's how endearing the character was for me. This is a great adaption of a show.
Pedro Pascal doesn't look like Joel from Last of us but he gets a pass because he is good looking. People are too used to only looking at attractive actors.
The only issue I have is with astronomical cursing that character is made to do. I don't know if in video that character also curses that much but she deserves better.

This is just a mix of woke ideology and mundane Hollywood nepotism. There's not really a lot of talent/aesthetics scouting that went into casting this show. Even if you want to keep to your own roster of HBO actors, someone like Jamie Lanister would've fit the role of Joel better. They wanted to check boxes, and it doesn't hurt them to use Thandie Newton's daughter for an episode, or this weird looking LGBTQIIA+2SPXYZ 20 year old person as Ellie.

Anybody who says that Ellie is good in the show doesn't really understand Ellie as a character. Ellie in this show is dumb, overly-emotional for these characters she has no connection with. Some of this can be put on the writers who don't get Ellie, like Ellie swears in the games because she is a kid in the real world and in the real world, swearing often is commonplace but the show tries to make her swearing more like a character trait or like she has to every scene. Ellie's funny bits in the game feel more like justing saying or doing something funny to entertain herself or get a chuckle out of Joel, but in the show it looks more like a 7-year-old who can't control themselves trying to impress Tess and Joel. Bella is not the worst actor ever just like how this show surprisely doesn't give me leprosy and is pretty good, but the acting from both Bella and Pedro definitely drag down the show because frankly Pedro isn't Joel and Bella isn't Ellie.

Just a weird show lol

I'd have to disagree for those first 3 episodes. She acts like a petty little psycho. Ellie in the game gets very angry at times, but for a reason. She wants to be stronger but knows that doesn't have that yet. The show makes it seem like she thinks she's better than that and it just doesn't work.

So Wahlberg got too old and they offered Holland the roll as Drake while giving Sam's character to Wahlberg.

There are many legitimate criticisms of the HBO show, it's production, writing, acting, etc. When Joel and Ellie arrived to Jackson, Tommy and Maria were happy to see them, apologized for the necessary security measures, showed them kindness and hospitality, and gave them a fresh, hot meal. And what did Ellie do? She freaked out and acted like a maniac when one the the townfolk was watching them from a distance. She started yelling like she was in prison, very aggressive, rude and disrespectful. HBO Ellie is an annoying character. I'm rooting for the infected. Too bad the zombies barely exist in the show. Anybody who says that Ellie is good in the show doesn't really understand Ellie as a character. Ellie in this show is dumb, overly-emotional for these characters she has no connection with. Some of this can be put on the writers who don't get Ellie, like Ellie swears in the games because she is a kid in the real world and in the real world, swearing often is commonplace but the show tries to make her swearing more like a character trait or like she has to every scene. Ellie's funny bits in the game feel more like justing saying or doing something funny to entertain herself or get a chuckle out of Joel, but in the show it looks more like a 7-year-old who can't control themselves trying to impress Tess and Joel.
Bella is not the worst actor ever just like how this show surprisely doesn't give me leprosy and is pretty good, but the acting from both Bella and Pedro definitely drag down the show because frankly Pedro isn't Joel and Bella isn't Ellie.

Ellie and Tess had actual time to spend together and a bond to build so that when she did die, the emotion felt earned and realistic but in the show, they had maybe 2 scenes of "bonding" before tess dies which Ellie barely even cares about and then suddenly she is hitting and pushing against Joel when he tries to get her out of the room.

I'd have to disagree for those first 3 episodes. She acts like a petty little psycho. Ellie in the game gets very angry at times, but for a reason. She wants to be stronger but knows that doesn't have that yet. The show makes it seem like she thinks she's better than that and it just doesn't work.
