Easy to miss little detail; Sarah and Joel don't eat pancakes for breakfast, they don't eat the biscuits offered by their neighbor, Sarah doesn't eat the neighbor's cookies and Joel forgets to bring a cake home. It's implied that the fungal virus spread through flour or grain throughout the day and that's how Joel, Sarah and Tommy avoided it.

Fun Fact: The opening scene takes place in 1968. 1968 was the same year the first zombie movie was made. George Romeros Nights of the Living Dead. That film is the reason we have this show in the first place since it was the inspiration for what we now know as zombies

I like what they did with the "car crash" originally that one car cut was supposed to make the car topple but they just went straight past it like they were gonna diverge from the game only for a plane to crash into town.😂

I agree. I've watched the series and this edit moved the story along quite well. Also, I love the reactors, most of whom I've missed seeing since Skybound's TWD reactions (my introduction to reaction videos).
Great pilot. The First 35 minutes are perfection. Pedro, Belle, Nico killed it. Love the faithfulness to the source material with doing it's own thing. Can't wait for the rest and hope to get flashbacks of how Joel Met Tess.

The Sahra part I would say hurts mainly because it's Joel's child and just the idea of a character's child dying is heartbreaking with aduinces along with any child's death . This premire was amazing plus it's extremely nice the series showed more pre attack

Holy Hell, this pilot episode of The Last of Us was picture-perfect.
I was hooked from scene one where they basically explained the fungus infection/pandemic (also, how crazy is it that it's basically a parallel to what we've slightly been living in the last 3 years?).
Also, as someone who finally played the original game during lockdown, I LOVED how damn near accurate everything was.
The death of Sarah (f#ck off to the racist trolls who had a problem with Sarah being race-swapped in this episode), albeit familiar, was still just as painful as the game version. Props to Nico Parker and Pedro Pascal for their chemistry and the acting between them.
What made the experience even more fulfilling was that my dad, who is a MASSIVE fan of Last of Us 1, loved the episode as well. Fun fact: Last of Us 1 is my dad's all-time favorite video game. He noticed every little detail watching the episode, which made me smile.
I'm hooked, and I cannot wait for more.

Are there really people upset about Sarah's race? That's stupid. Pedro Pascal is Chilean, it makes perfect sense that Sarah would be darker skinned.

I personally have never experienced an actor of any age so emotionally raw and real that it makes me cry. Very rare. But Bella has that skill - and its insane. Her episode 5 scream alone will haunt me many lifetimes. She's incredible.

Didnt play the game but knew what was coming in the beginning part and it didnt hit me super hard until I watched Steve and Nikkis reaction and I just bawled. It was more sympathizing with Nikki because she has such a huge mom heart and poor Steve is a fantastic girl dad it killed me more than the situation on the show.
Nikki and Steven are great.
Been watching them for about 2 years. Their reaction too Tucker n Dale vs Evil is hilarious.

I never played the game, so the desperation in her dad's voice as she was dying killed me the first time I saw this... and again rewatching these reactions.

I’ve never played the game, but I’m so glad that I decided to watch the first episode. Craig Mazin is a terrific writer, he wrote Chernobyl. So far, great world building.
You should definitely watch gameplay of the game, it’s so amazing and they’re doing so good with the tv series 😭 u can watch gameplay either before or after you finish the series (u might want to experience it completely through the tv series first and that’s totally fine)

I'm happy everyone else is enjoying the show too. It would have been REALLY easy for them to mess this up, but this pilot was almost perfect, like a solid 9.5/10.
Pedro Pascal as Joel is surprisingly good too, I wasn't sure about the casting, but seeing him in action proves he's the perfect fit. Tommy's actor is great too, he sounds EXACTLY like Tommy in the game.

Someone pointed out somewhere that the fungal infection started in wheat, which is why you see eating biscuits and such getting sick.

There was a huge focus on food in the first 15 minutes. Them not having pancake mix, them refusing the biscuits, Joel forgetting to get the cake.
It's most likely the reason Joel, Tommy, and Sarah never got sick or infected.

I never played the game, but I saw videos on how it started. They made the Pilot excellent.
People who played the game know that the Sarah scene is coming but it doesn't make it hurt any less. I watched it with someone who didn't know the story beforehand and I just sat there and watched the hope and then their heart break during that scene.
