- In 2020, we took on a full gut renovation of our 100+ year old New Orleans shotgun home. It was no easy feat navigating the ups and downs of gutting and rebuilding a house built in a swamp in 1910, but we are thrilled with the way it tuned out in the end. Join me as I walk you through the process from purchase to completion!

I love the home and commentary. Always be true to your own happiness. I like that you did what you both wanted and what’s NOT trending. 🏠💜😊
Thank you SO much!
I absolutely love your home! I stayed in a double shotgun in the Irish channel one of the first times I visited New Orleans, and was over the lack of storage and hallway after only a week. I kept re-working the layout in my brain, but you surpassed anything I came up with. Its very evident that this was a labor of love, and I hope you and your family enjoy it for years to come
Wow, thank you so much for saying that! And the storage struggle is so real in New Orleans!
Congrats on your home. It is beautiful and a wonderful house to raise a child.
Perfect, love every single detail of your home...even the bathroom tiles😁
Hehe…thank you!! I appreciate you ☺️
Thank you for inviting us into your beautiful home. You have an excellent sense of color and space. I feel that each room offers its own "color therapy"... the warmth of peach, the cool and stirring chartreuse, the vibrant radicchio... All a feast for the eyes and the soul.
Wow, this is the most heart warming and inspiring comment! You are a gem! Thank you for watching ❤️
I will continue to watch! The very best to you in your new venture.
Aww love your home & y’all seem so cute and fun! I live in Mid City - on my way over, k? 😆 so sweet that y’all got to rework the usual shotgun floor plan, and I’d kill for a that closet and storage space! Definitely the greatest of luxuries here 😂⚜️💜
the home is so warm and eclectic! so nicely done, and your voice is so relaxing!
Thank you so much ☺️
Beautiful Home!! Love your quirky personality! 😃❤️
Aw, thank you so much ☺️
Wonderful warm renovation. It’s obvious you both have a great eye and have put in love and care into the renovation which goes beyond a standard reno. Congrats on the fantastic work as well as passing on some of the vendors you used such as Tala. Cheers look forward to seeing more of your work and videos.
Thank you so much! 😊 Happy to share it with you and appreciate you watching!
Suggestion, I'm thinking y'all are young enough to still have elders in y'alls lives.... the Entry Steps might be only two, but elders some days have visual acuity issues. Painting the two steps two shades of the same color can help them see where the steps are a bit better. Painting the vertical surface and horizonal surface contrast colors helps as well, and I think Wes Anderson would approve that. Oh and top coat of the steps? Mix in clean dry silica sand with the final coat or two of paint. Its harsh on bare feet but ensures solid footing when the steps get wet. Since clean silica sand is nearly white it fades into the color of the paint. That back yard looks a bit vacant, think about putting up a few attachment points for a fabric projector screen and build a cart to hold a cheap used Projector TV and you could have your own outdoor lyceum like a drive-in movie theater. Also traditional Southern Architecture never ever had no closets. Reason being they hold humidity and are dark, it makes the perfect environment for the states vast collection of Molds, Mildews, Musts, Fungi. This is why pantry niches are open to the kitchen and hidden behind a drape of beads or light fabric, and why you used to see Chifforobes and Wardrobes all the time. That classic Southern Furniture always had a lining of aromatic Cedar for serious reasons, and it was not unusual to find from time to time one with Teak Bones, Cedar interior, and fancy wood applied to Pine for the exterior. Sadly most of those were thrown on funeral pyres about the mid twentieth century.
What an amazing layout you put together. It's all beautiful. And your daughter is adorable.
Wow, thank you so much!
Really cute space. You will be happy eventually about the more traditional placement of the subway tile. Less trendy. Love the tile on the floor. Entire house is beautiful. Clearly shows your labor of love.
Thank you SO much!
*best part of the video* = The bubble wand microphone handle 👍
this is such a gem!!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Absolutely beautiful. ❤ I love how you all have a way to enter the back yard from your bedroom. That’s something I’d like to incorporate in my space. Everything is lovely… including the bathroom subway tiles. ❤
Aw, thanks so much for saying that ☺️ I hope you find a way to see all the way to your backyard!
WOW!!! Loved EVERYTHING!!! Lots of different colors and styles BUT… it all WORKS!! 💯👍🤩💜💜
Aw, thanks so much!!!
The toad venom in the pepper chest hahaha! Love your home, the variety of color made your home happy, calm and homey :)
Thank you so much! The Toad Venom is the real superstar of this video...Ha! But honestly, the highest compliment is for someone to say our house is happy and homey! I appreciate you 🥰
Y'all did good! I really liked your commentary.
The backyard seems to be coming along & your patio area is inviting.
Your daughter is precious. Loved how things came together in her room working with the poster as inspiration.
Thank you SO much! ☺
J’adore vos choix de couleurs et votre sens pratique. Vos commentaires honnêtes sur le déroulement des travaux et les coûts ajoutent à la pertinence de la vidéo. Félicitations!
Merci!!!
Your home is incredibly beautiful 😍

Thank you SO much! Happy to have you!
Great design! Really works well for you. Subway tile looks good to me…but I don’t have any so maybe that’s why. Love the colors you chose.
Thank you so much for saying that! Cheers to you!
What a wonderful home!
Aw, thanks so much!
Listen...I just subscribed because I think this channel is going to be awesome BUT I could not hear a dang word you said. Also, your Visa card is on display at 2:45. Great re-do on the house!
Thanks for your honesty! I'm working on getting my sound sorted out...huge learning curve! And that's my dog's credit card. We had to cancel it because he had a huge shopping problem 😋
But seriously it's an old account that doesn't exist any longer. Thanks for looking out!
@@Lu_Loveless 🤩
This is near the floorplan for a shotgun I've always dreamed off, just a wee bit bigger Columbia side porch and a small exterior shower area.
Oh, an exterior shower would be amazing 🩷
I love your home and your humor.
Gosh, thanks so much ☺
So lovely. Nice job with your Reno. ❤
Thank you so much ❤️
Love shotguns beautiful renovation
Hi there! Just found your video this morning.
Instant had to watch. I've always loved New Orleans and a fan of the cute cottage shot gun houses there.
I live in Florida, I got to visit NO years ago, one of my bucket list travels.
Your house is adorable. I love how the floor plan is not typical, hall down one side. The kitchen/LR area next to the patio, perfection. I love many of the tips and tricks. You guys did an awesome reno, Sweet Cottage! I look forward to videos to come.
Thank you! It's such a charming city and hard not to fall in love with all of the colorful homes and rich history!

Oh wow, amazing! Love everything about your house. Y'all did a fabulous job! I just found you while searching for NOLA videos and subscribed. I live in Texas but travel to NOLA every chance I get. It is my favorite city by far. Love the renovation, your sweet baby and your commentary.
Thank you so much for your sweet words and for subscribing! I'm from Texas originally and there's so much to love, but New Orleans is something special, isn't it?!
Yesss it is! I never tire of its charm, allure and excitement. Even though I’ve been hundreds of times I always see something for the first time ❤ In fact I’ll be there this weekend - yay!
Oh … where in Texas are you from?
@@kjm7899 Yayyy...it's Mardi Gras time so you should have lots of fun! Too much fun, even ☺ I'm from Dallas! My next video will touch on that a little!
@@Lu_Loveless Great!
Lovely.
Loved that!!!🙂🌸⭐
Thank you! ☺
Great video!
Thank you!
I’m very curious what pattern you’d hoped for with the subway tiles? I have basket weave as a kitchen backsplash and they started mine in the brick pattern and I happened to visit at about row three and it got peeled off while the grout was still damp, phew !! I built in 2020 and my home is 23’ wide by 52’ long + garage attached at the front. Love your home ❤
Ah, glad you caught your tile in time! I love a basketweave pattern! I was hoping for an offset vertical stacked pattern, and they did a classic subway pattern (horizontal and staggered). Oh well 🙃
Perhaps think of it as the classic pattern that they may have done when your house was built. But I get it. The offset vertical is more funky, like yourself. So glad I found your channel. Happy Tuesday ❤️
I would have raised the house several feet off the ground to safeguard against possible flooding.
That comes with a price tag of $50k+. The house actually sits in a low risk flood zone and has never flooded, not even after Katrina. So we weighed the pros and cons of raising the house and decided against it due to the very high cost of shoring.
@@Lu_Loveless Good to know. I was concerned because you mentioned built on a swamp.
I’m obsessed! What is the flooring you used throughout the house? It’s perfect
Thank you so so much! I appreciate you 😊The floors are engineered hardwood from Floor & Decor. Here's the link (it's also in the video description if this link doesn't work for you): www.flooranddecor.com/engineered-hardwood-wood/marley-european-oak-wire-brushed-engineered-hardwood-100785872.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqqjwOCl5E19lkOwnNgEi-ZEh-FCDWp5N83Lqbu8QrrNPs8zRp10QU
Never heard of a shotgun house but yes if I had the opportunity to do a place like that, I’d grab it. It looks great.
Thank you so much! Being from Texas, I hadn't heard of shotguns until I moved to New Orleans, so I understand. Thanks for watching!
Shot gun houses are all over texas.....but shot gun houses are never in nice places LOL theres a reason they call them shot gun houses
Your exterior color combo is brilliant!! Could you share the names of the four colors you used?
Thank you! I’ll try to find them for ya…just a sec…
Okay, I found them! See below:
Light Pink: Sherwin-Williams Bayview Coral Hgsw1107
Dark Pink Trim: Valspar Coral Passion 2001
Dark Blue: Benjamin Moore Starry Night Blue 2067-20
Green Foundation: Benjamin Moore Greenwich Village 445
Thank you!!
@@jessicap6651 You’re welcome!
I take my equipment very seriously 😂
Love it
Thank you!
Can you list the local companies you used to buy some of your pieces and the contractors (if you recommend)? I'm always trying to buy local, but struggle because they never have an online presence
Where is that area rug in their living room from? Love it!
Thank you! I bought it secondhand on Facebook marketplace, but I’m pretty sure this is the exact same one: www.paynesgray.com/products/surya-roma-doe-machine-woven-rug?variant=34875441021082&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsqyq6oOEhAMVNzfUAR3seQThEAQYASABEgK8OfD_BwE
Great, thank you!😊@@Lu_Loveless
great job!! what kind of bananas do you have planted?
Thank you! Ya know...I'm not really sure what they are specifically. We just know them to be plain old banana trees. They grow all over New Orleans and we propagated these from a bunch of trees that were growing on an empty lot across the street from us. They grow astonishingly fast and create the best shade.

Woohoo!! Thanks so much!!
@@Lu_Loveless I can already tell your channel is going to be wonderful! 🤩
@@sullak7 Gosh, thank you!!! 😭
What was the subway pattern supposed to be?! 😳
It was supposed to be vertical offset stack! Instead it was installed horizontal running bond. Sounds so nerdy. lol.
Can you link the Amazon drapery?.
Hi! I had to dig deep in my Amazon history but I found them! I bought the Mustard Gold color way. And I want to say that I bought one pair that was new and one pair that was used (you can do that for some Amazon items) and I saved some money that way. No issues. a.co/d/9uzF4nH
So interesting! Yet I don’t care to see people’s faces talking-just show the HOUSE
Thanks for your comment. I can see your point of view. I’m still trying to get in my groove on the video editing side of things, so I appreciate your feedback. Take care!
The gentrification of New Orleans continues...
I lived in Nola for over a decade, put myself through architecture school here, and worked my butt off to save enough to buy my first home. I’m actually the first in my family to ever own a home and do not come from wealth…shoot, I’m barely middle class. This house didn’t meet the basic standards of living when I bought it - termite and rat infestation, a hazardous electrical system, and no air conditioning. So if bringing a house up to current building codes and putting a bright coat of paint on the historic facade is gentrification, then I guess I’m guilty.
😉👍💗
🥰 ❤
Why do they call it shotgun?
Well the rooms in a shotgun house are built one behind the other - with each room opening into the next one. Doors are usually located at each end of the house and the lore behind the term “Shotgun” is that a bullet shot from the front door would pass through the house without hitting anything and exit through the back door!
Can't even hear you...trying talking up
I’m working on my voice projection!
