In this episode, Airbnb Superhosts Stephanie and David, take us on a tour of their two modern shotgun houses in the heart of Ybor City, Tampa, Florida. Stephanie and David, both architects, were inspired by the famous shotgun shacks that used to line the streets of Ybor, and designed two modernized versions to rent out on Airbnb. Throughout the video, you’ll get to tour both houses, learn about this historic area and get the lowdown on what it’s like to be a successful Airbnb host for these unique stays.
You can learn more about these houses, Ybor City and see a bunch of photos on our blog: hopscotchthegl...

Curious to know, how many of you have used Airbnb at least once?
What size are the tiny house?
Come back to trinidad!!🇹🇹🇹🇹
@@stevensaxon8888 365 square feet and 665 square feet
@@hopscotchtheglobe oh wow that is a tiny. They seem bigger on the video
@@stevensaxon8888 They felt bigger too. It's the high ceilings that make it feel that way I think.
My wife and I stayed in these a few years back and loved the experience. While it is tiny, it has high ceilings and the perfect amount of furniture that leave it feeling spacious. The host is the sweetest person and communicated well and checked in our needs and was just overall a great Airbnb experience; possibly one of the best ones we've stayed in. It's in perfect walking distance of most everything in Ybor, and you can also catch a trolly or transit to get into Tampa proper. I would suggest renting a little scooter and getting around Ybor and taking side streets and meeting the neighborhood roosters. :)
That is so great to hear! The host is so lovely and I couldn't agree more about the place and surrounding area. We never got to get around by scooter because we had our truck with us, but that would be SO fun!
Interesting to see that small appliances are more expensive than larger appliances. Interesting that Tampa has no minimum size limit. Looks like tiny is the way of the future. :) Looks like a great Airbnb with its central location. Thank for sharing!
Thanks for watching guys! Missing you. What are your upcoming plans?
@@hopscotchtheglobe We are sticking around Canada until after Christmas and then hitting the road. It is looking more and more like South America, so we may stop by to see you in Costa Rica! Will you be there in the New Year?
@@ThePlanetD That would be wonderful! We aren't 100% sure when we will be there yet. We have to work out the shipping details for getting our Airstream to Costa Rica before we leave the US. Most likely between January and April. Would LOVE to see you!
The shotgun house I grew up in had all big appliances, built in fireplaces, cedar lined closets, it's still in great shape today.
I love this place.
Thank you, this was super helpful 😊
So glad you enjoyed this episode! Are yiu thinking about becoming a host?
It looks beautiful ❤
It's a great place to stay in the area. Highly recommend
Great video, thank you very much and greetings from Germany :)
Glad you enjoyed it! What part of Germany are you from?
I love this and want to buy a 2bed home just like the one in this video. !!!
Awesome! Where?
Other nations: I need a door here so that air can cross ventilate easily.
Americans: I need a door here so that if i shoot a shotgun from front door, it can easily go out from this door.
That’s just what they’re called. They are built that way for ventilation. That’s why they’re most common in the South.
I love small cozy houses like this, but you never see them around that much! I stayed at a huge air b&b last summer in upstate NY and the scenery was just beautiful with so many hiking trails. How much are those per day?
They're about 150 a night plus cleaning fees.
Come back to trinidad!!🇹🇹🇹🇹
hahaha Siya and I were literally watching dance videos from Trinidad last night. So much booty shaking! We love it. I'd love to go back - Kristen
What's the square footage?
What is the sq ft of the shot gun houses each.
How much are the Tiny Homes in Ybor, I would like to purchAse one
If you watch the full video, the hosts talk about purchase and renovation costs :)
the first isn't a shotgun right? it's just a very small house.
Yes the first one is considered a tiny house but the other is a shotgun.
She lost me at 200 a sq foot. Then she was like there is the same amount of fixtures in a small home versus a big home .
These houses are bigger than 200 square feet (although thats how big our Airstream is and it's totally great for us). These houses are 365 square feet and 665 square feet
@@hopscotchtheglobe I live in the area . Are you factoring in the cost of the land too ? Lol . I don’t see a subzero fridge or a pool . You definitely have to watch for people to up charge . I know you mentioned you were in New York .
In my view the ONLY way to build today...make it so it can be moved. Realize that there will be upwards of 140 million North Americans displaced by rising Sea Water by the turn of THIS century. Low-Cost hosing is on my mind for you sheeple. I will be long dead, but my Grandkids might be here...3-D Printing with HEMP Hurds as feedstock is obvious using Geopolymer as a Binder seems the best choice today from my research. Combined with a Mobile (THOW) system of housing for itinerate workers who can be near the desired saltwater frontage as it climbs the shorelines. I envision a system of portable Boardwalk type structures that can shift with the tides mobile units (Park Model RV Types) just plug into and move as needed...High Rises are limited to areas above 350' elevations worldwide....I even have a Park Model RV size unit of 400 sqft that has a separate 1/2 bath utility room with a stack W/D unit and a 36" wide French door. All plumbing runs are 96" from the on-demand H/W. Currently, I am working on the French City house facade idea for this plan. This duo of site-built masterpieces can be a real inspiration to us all.
I can use this plan for another unit I am doing 3-D printed using a Castle Stone Stamp for texture creating that French/European motif.... Juggling this plan for SW Adobe style is an issue I have not worked out yet as ALL my designs have 1.5 baths.
