As someone who’s finally into the industry and working remotely (the studio I work for is in a different timezone in LA) it really is a big culture shock seeing everyone so nice and laid back. I was working in the food service industry for years and the idea of being lax with my time or not pretending to do work when there’s currently nothing to do is so foreign to me now.
As long as you get your work done and maintain quality, it’s pretty chill. I wish more workplaces took that mentality.
Congratulations on making it in the industry, I wish you nothing but the best moving forward!it sounds amazing how relaxed it is 💯
@@Eidolon_of_Ashley Thank you!! If you’re trying to get in or already are, I wish you the best as well!
@@inthedetails5467 working on a portfolio now, one day I’ll make it too, and thank you so much 😊
To me, the best benefit is the time you can have to draw and being surrounded with other artists. But I have no experience working in the industry cause I'm still in 11th grade lol. I hope to get to work in feature Japanese films one day!!! (Even though my country doesn't give a fuck about anything visual art related~~~~~~)
same with the last part hehe
Seeing all the artist’s hourly comics surprised me. Everybody’s schedules are so unique!!
I've injured myself plenty 🙃 I hope January was the last time I have a cooking related injury
As someone who wants to work in the industry, I found your recent videos really helpful! Thank you so much for giving us a look into the realities of the job and all that comes with it!
I was wondering if you had any advice you’d give to young artists in terms of artistic development or marketing yourself? Any tips on what they could do to help get their foot in the door?
Hey, Michelle, I started freelancing for a union studio recently and wanted to ask if freelancers are covered by the Guild or is that just for full-time employees? Thank you for posting this video and hope you're doing well. :)
I believe you have to pay to be part of the Guild. So if you haven't done that, then odds are you won't be covered even if the studio you work for is unionized. But don't take my word for it. I advise you to check out the Guild's website.
What is the Guild?

@@ghostie7790 thank you!

I loved when you brought up having a sort of found family in the industry! It’s satisfying being around people who are just as passionate about art as you are, it’s like something just clicks. 🙌💖
I’m year of the dragon and I started a literal grease fire a week ago 🥲
Happy Lunar New Year everyone!
Year of the tiger!🐅
lol you can't injure yourself in the kitchen if you never cook
AHHH im super early! happy lunar new year!!!!
Your videos are so informative, thank you so much for the content you give us
I really loved the comic!! And the video was really good!
i was just binging your videos as i was working today!!! and tysm for your videos! they’re so informative and really helps me prepare for the industry 🤗 happy lunar new year to you!! 🧧✨
I really like that you both point out the good and the bad part from your experience in the industry! You are my inspiration 🤩
I love this new format Michelle :) now I'm low-key thinking of doing animation ;__;
This was a great video to have in the background as I'm slowly finishing up my first updated storyboard for my portfolio! I'm hoping land my first storyboard revisionist or trainee position this year (or even a PA spot at this point lol) Your videos always make me feel motivated to keep working!
I’ve been watching you since your sketchbook tours and I just have to say that you were my main inspiration growing up. I’m planning to apply to major in animation in the next school year and it’s great to see how far you’ve come and achieved! You’re awesome Michelle!!
Wow thank you for this video, I've always felt nervous whenever I'm trying to negotiate for something better for myself (not necessarily animation), I feel like I'm being greedy and overstepping my boundaries. But the way you put it really takes off the guilt of that.
thank you for mentioning the friendship aspect, i recently decided to do animschool from home instead of going to college which had me worried about making friends. luckily some of my HS friends are for sure staying in state & want to stay in touch with me, and it’s nice to know that i won’t have to stress about that when i’m actually working in the industry either!
YAY ♡
I do stop motion animation, that close enough?
we are told even in uni that every graphic design studio is strict on time and projects NEED to be done even if you if lose out on sleep....hmmm some maybe, but not all thankfully
Happy Lunar New Year Michelle and GongXiFaCai!! For those born in the year of the *Rat* , Snake, Monkey, *Pig* and Dog, you will need to make comparatively more effort in order to make achievements! Work hard work smart guys!
As the one born in year of snake it guess i feast on roasted pig, monkey stew, Dog bone, rat sashami ✨✨✨
Random dark stuff pay no mind ☕
I’ve always wanted to work in animation because of the friends I could make 😅
Do you have any advice for East Coast artists who don't know if they would want to move somewhere like LA?
Hi Michelle. I'm currently in my late 20s early 30s planning on going to art school and making a career change into animation and was wondering if studios prefer hiring younger people. Is there ageism in the industry?
My year is four years from now
Like the channel. Dont like the greeting. Or the swear words. Just an honest critique. Overall i like.
Me also being born year of the rat: ummmm
So as an animator you can’t just work at a studio until you get fired or quit like retail jobs?
Jello! New sub!
Nice video. I used to believe this superstitious stuff including feng shui but I'm also Christian and removed all that from my life.
