Watch the WORST PAYING ART / ANIMATION JOBS here!: czcams.com/video/hxuGiumGgNI/video.html
I love that some of them mentioned how long they are with the company gives a realistic mind set because the difference between an artist working with a company for a year versus 15 years. The reasoning between what they are getting payed is helpful as well.
Yeah it's definitely a helpful insight to know how long someone has worked at a studio to know!
Being an animator in the west: 😀😃
Being an animator in Japan: 😱😱
thank you again for the insight mew! I was like "wow people make so much!' but then also remembered that most these artists live in LA and NYC which is crazy expensive to...but again, you're definitely breaking the "artists make no money" stereotype cus they INDEED do.
I think many can work remotely? So they may live in a countryside and make 6 dug, which is really good lol
@@edwardgyu7990 god it would be a dream to work remote lol
Tbh my dream is to do Animation in the U.S, but my country's industry is tiny! If only we had a union here. Your videos do give me some insight. Thanks Michelle!
Np! Hopefully i can do a version with other continents and countries :)
@@mewTripled try Russia Tata Che and me have lost our jobs thx to the US ❤
Imagine working for Western countries, paying a % their services, never ever treat Ukrainians like garbage and getting sanctioned by the country’s that can’t tell the difference between any Eastern European countries and always labelled them Russian, the hypocrisy
@@mewTripled please do that!! it would be helpful
Im in the same Situation my dream is to do animation in the us but I would want to leave Europe
*wouldn‘t
I really wish the UK would pay animators and artists like this. Unless I'm missing something, even senior animators in the UK get about 30-50K less than the animators with 1 year experience in the US.
Omg This video is so helpful! Thank you! 😭💖 Your videos are truly the best "cheat codes" for us aspiring/young artists! Time to work harder and get our cha-ching, fellow bishez~
thanks, im glad it helps!
What you said about the character/prop designing job being on the 'lower end' at 4:47 kinda baffles me and puts into perspective the cost of living in different areas because I'd be willing to juggle anything for 100k a year 😂
Yeah it definitely is a pay most people would love to have. Especially now that WFH is a bigger thing and most people can work from another state for a LA animation job (depending on studio). Hopefully it spreads more awareness that not all art jobs are starving artist jobs!
I'd love to get into character design! I think it will be challenging and as of right now I'm working more on my portfolio while job hunting. Trying to keep my head up and keep improving! Thank you for your videos~!
in the same boat currently, good luck to you!
@@KBird204 me too!
Per usual, thank you for the insight Michelle! You're literally a life saver for helping me plan out my life goals.
This was really cool, and I love that you're making this information accessible, but as a long time subscriber I gotta tell you I really miss your draw with mes. I realize you probably have a lot going on, but those really felt really genuine and fun, like we were all just hanging out, and we got to see your gorgeous art outside of a comic format ( which I also love).
Thanks for making this video, it is so interesting to hear, I think I'll keep pushing my online shop if that's where it maxes out in the animation world..
Omg I’m leaving uni in a few months and we have to write a field report on the page and our career plans and this info is so incredible!! Thank you so much!!
This is very insightful, Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing this was very helpful information.
Great information Thanks.
You are the hero we deserve Mew! Thank you for all your efforts.
Thanks for the informative video. I really hope that through some miracle the games industry unionizes. Companies will really do anything and everything to avoid it though. My goal is to work in the games industry and it’s disheartening to hear how much less games artists often make than their counterparts in TV/Film.
This is the realest shit. You real asf for this. Ty
Aright!! Great content and Videos like Always!!
Thank you!
10:45 Gives me a little bit of hope of making it here in Greater NYC without moving to Hollywood.
Love your videos
How do you enter the industry with zero experience?? Does personal project count??
Looking forward to your videos on every Friday, since you give good tips and all ^^
Especially with making a good amount of money with certain art jobs!
Thanks, that means a lot!
Hi Mew, I love your videos! They’re all so informative and helpful!
I’m a story artist out of college trying to of course become a story artist, BUT I know I might not be one right away and have to work from the ground up.
(Unless my work gets really good)
So I’m wondering if you know of “entry level” jobs that I should also be applying for so I could at least get my foot in the door y’know
and get more experience so I won’t be looked down on for NOT having experience. I’ve been applying for story artist jobs of course, but the rejections have been getting a bit more discouraging…^^;
If I missed the video on that, my bad! If Mew or anyone in the comments can link the video, that would be a big help!
OR if anyone else has advice on this, I’d really appreciate it! ^^
Me as a Storyboard Artist in Canada making less than a Storyboard Revisionist in the US: 🥲
yeah these numbers really don't apply to Canada! :'(
Hey there I’m in Canada too! These 6 dig salary sounds really good, too good to me too, hhahaha, maybe you should try to find such job in the US, then work remotely in Canada?!
@@edwardgyu7990 they only hire us citizens in most cases
I am going to move to Australia and I’m going to pursue my career in illustration and animation. May I please know more about your work and what company do you work in a few are comfortable with sharing that information because I might need it in the long run if I ever wish to apply for a job in Canada or for more connections that would be great. Thank you also that I’m trying to build a community for networking and connections so that would be really helpful
@@audrey_bond_ how much do Storyboard artists and other artists positions get paid respectively in Canada now and earlier...?
I’d love to see you what you’ve been drawing lately 🥺❤
Thanks, you can check out my comics that I post every week on my instagram @mewTripled :)
And I never earned more (in games) than 32k/year, usual was even 22k, working at 4 game studios (pretty small ones, tho, there's no such a thing as unions here, also), covering almost any profile one can imagine. It ain't about negotiation; nothing better in my area... I guess the country you work at is an immensely crucial factor in this conversation, even in the 1st world. Anyway, cost of living tends to be very different, too (but it doesn't make for the low salary, not even close).
Yeah, UK wages especially outside of london are shit to put it lightly. You’ll do the same job and get paid a third of what they will in the US
I really like the idea of making emotes for twitch, make fantasy art or just art for t-shirts. Im not really into complicated things or doing to many things at once so for exemple if I want to make art commissions I just want to be doing 2 thing. I also can not do/work to hard. I have burn out and just can not seem to get much better. Im now getting into social media marketing and I like writing for spesific oudiences to motivate people. I love doing research on a topic and then write something short about it. Its still a lot for me. I am sad but I know I try my best. I just feel like I want too many things. I live with my bf and I feel like I want to give him more of my time.
So basically... you're set if you get in?
I’m both optimistic and depressed trying to self teach to the point of having a foot in the door of things in the animation industry while all these jobs off rip make like 5x anything I can even hope to land on indeed
It could be argued the best animation to ever come out of WB was by a group of guys who had no air conditioning and worked for minimum wage.
Really useful vid! I have a question, are there any animation jobs that are more stable and less "project-driven"? like working for a company not related to the entertainment industry? i have heard the medicine and aircraft industry is in need of animators
That's interesting to hear. I think the closest would be at bigger feature studios like Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, but the only caveat there is that it may be a slower pace of growing into a leadership position if that is what you're looking for. However it does seem more stable overall for artists in general.
@@mewTripled i see, thanks for the answer! I have a friend that knows someone that is a medical animator and i would love to know more about that. i was also wondering if you as a story artist working full time in a studio, also have to look for the next project to work on once you have finished with a project? do u struggle to find the next job? btw i love ur vids! ty!
Hi Michelle, i thought some of these jobs are the same. Do you have a video where you explain the different jobs with examples what they exactly do?
Best regards
René
Hi René, there's a video in the description box listed as 35 animation jobs which should provide more info on some of the jobs mentioned. Thanks!
[ on October 15th, 2023, Best Buy is getting rid of DVDs,...meaning few content might be old already. My source was Channel 5 ABC.]
So pretty much you can make 6 dig per year? Even if you just start? That sounds really good
So much better than I thought
In the US, do game artists earn less than artists in animation? I’m a pre-uni student in the UK and my only frame of reference is looking at game concept art jobs here. Tbh I had no idea the salary gap between the UK and US is so big. Those artists you mentioned with a year or less of experience are earning more than senior concept artists here.
From my research the typical salary range for a junior concept artist in the UK is £22-30k ($24.5-36k), but I’ve only seen a few examples on the higher end and more on the lower end, which is around minimum wage or just above. It sucks because there are hardly any junior/entry level/internship job listings, and the average salary feels unfairly low when you look at the range of skills most of the jobs require. I rly wish more people would talk about money when it comes to the creative industries
Edit: Due to the lack of reliable info on salaries, I can't even be certain that the decent info I do have is representative :/
Unfortunately I'm not as familiar with the game industry, but I do feel as though they're underpaid compared to film/tv animators. I am not 100% sure on if there is a union for game animators, but there may be moments of overlap depending on what studio or project. I do see the union shows support for the gaming industry and there is the beginning of an organization happening for it in the US though!: rpgunion.org/
@@mewTripled Thanks for the reply :D Hopefully the workers in the game industry will get on board with unionisation! I don't think I'd ever want to travel to the US for work, but if international remote work becomes normalised I'd be up for that.
Your videos are great btw, I think you strike a good balance between popular appeal and educational :)
These are great but the issue is I am not American. I am in Pakistan and I am digital artist still learning but I want to earn living on my basic skills in art but these damn AI have ruined it for me and also my country economy destroyed the image of the country as well. Any advice for me, been stressed alot recently.
Hey!! Do american studios take people from outside and allow them to work from their own countries??
So i never went to art school, i want to be a character design i been drawing for years nows but i never made a portfolio or post my art on social media, i don’t know how to use photoshop that well or make my art look good on digital. So how do i get a job in the industry? How do i get into it?
Which course you did Maya or blender?
Pls talk me!
Do you have to live in LA or NY to be an animator?
Before taxes kinda just need at very highest 900 usd and very lowest 700 usd a month, considering i live in sweden, and im good at budgeting. Wtf they get over 1000usd per week! I thought she was saying month!! Wtf i should look more into being an industry artist.
Is there any spreadsheet about illustration? xd
Not a public one I know of yet, but I'll keep an eye out!
@@mewTripled Thank you!
I wish I could like this video twice
I live in a low income area where the average househokd makes 40k a year so I dont know what your magic numbers mean.
Can we get that document you are reading from?
its in the description box!
But what are you paid? Please reply to me!
Software engineer 4 years experience $180,000 dollars a year base. 😂
What makes me salty is taxes. It takes out SO MUCH
tysm for this list! it shall come very handy very soon
No prob! Hope it helps!
holy shit im so early
good morning!
Omg first.
yay!
seems like 3d animators get the lowest salary🥲
