The reason that passing lane got added to Ladd was because they had installed in road heaters years before. The contractor messed it up and the road shifted and broke them in the first year. It slowly was sliding off into the creek after that and it became an ecological issue. I was on 84 somewhere between Boise and Pendleton the day you filmed this.
I remember hitchhiking by the interchange at 0:33 back in January of 1980. I was headed to Idaho Falls, to visit a friend at a Navy training base. It was overcast that day, and barely above freezing (but, I was dressed for it). I remember standing at that spot for over 2 hours, which was really unusual. I still have a Kodachrome slide that I shot at that spot.
Another good one-and I'll echo the comment about the last time you were here and there was a Thunderstorm. Looking ahead to the drive to the Idaho Line.
Next time you might want to keep your eyes peeled upstairs as well: AF and Navy tactical aircraft use the area for some of their low-level navigation training.

The last time I watched a video of your drive in this area, it was a thunderstorm raging as you was driving!
The Baker Valley is very nice looking. I'm hoping that the Sierra Valley is the same way when you finally post your video of CA 49 going through it.
What happened to the older video you did? The one with that cool lighting strike? And where can I see it?

What's weird about Interstate 84, is the fact that it goes almost due South in this part of it's routing.
Interstate 82 suffers the same problem.
Now you're in my neck of the woods (Baker City).
I-84 STARTS IN STURBRIDGE, MASS. TO END IN SCRANTON, PA. THEN PICKS UP AGAIN IN UTAH TO OREGON, WHY ISN'T THE I-84 SECTION FROM UTAH TO OREGON CALLED I-184?
