That is the problem. The Executive, Legislature, Judiciary don't pay taxes. In fact Ruto is the one who negotiated with the salaries and remuneration commission for the Legislature not to pay taxes on their allowances. They are taxing the small fish to death and the big fish is paying none. Everyone should pay taxes.

We get taxed before you start your business, when you try to sell your vegetables, as a hawker before you sell kanjo takes 50 Bob every day so 18k plus a year ,when you go to buy anything so what does the government want because in rich countries, they exempt foods from taxes clothes etc so as not to burden the poor so we actually have plenty of taxes so they need to stop the theft

Ndo, I don't mind paying USD 7k in property taxes and USD 6k income taxes annually because I see what I am paying for. But for a fact I feel cheated paying taxes in Kenya. First, I am already levied to death, and then expected to bribe when I need basic services or support from same agencies that I pay obscene levies to. I do not even know where to begin but operating in Kenya is really challenging. For example, my KPLC bill almost doubled due to increased tariffs but the outages are more than ever. Did I mention we have to bribe the technicians to attend to the outages?! How about those migraine-triggering potholes? But I still love Kenya. It is such a beautiful country with so much potential. The top down culture of corruption is the core problem across the board. But I continue to keep hope alive for my beloved Kenya.

Holding politicians accountable is proving to be too much it's better to dodge the tax when you can. How can we hold them accountable when we all have tribal cocoons

Thanks for this sober and informative tax discussion. UDA is totally missing the mark by politicizing taxation. Injecting politics of personal vendettas and mudslinging has cheapened an otherwise important national debate.

Tax education is nowhere in courses that are not finance based. So you are right, but it's not only Kenyans. Whichever course you attend, you'll always be told - at the beginning, how that is the most important in the world and how wise you were to have chosen it. Why do I say this. We all don't have to have ideas in every sector. We must be professors in our own areas. Let tax 'experts' deal with tax matters.

Kenya can never tax itself to prosperity. It has never worked anywhere in the world. Unless tax policy is accompanied with a serious anti corruption policy, KRA will become a cash cow like KPLC. This money will end up in private pockets to fund lavish lifestyles and campaign kitties.
