Disney World monorail vs. a squirrel

  • Monorail passengers at Disney World had a 45 minute ride between stops because a squirrel got on the track and the woman driving couldn't bring herself to run it over. They made progress a few feet at a time, honking at the squirrel to continue further down the track.

    Having visited Disney World twice this year, riding the monorails a lot, I would have hated for kids to have witnessed a Disney World cast member run over a squirrel. Watching this video was a happy experience. Listening to the wonderful crowd cheer and watching the great quality video---hey, I've forwarded this video to my friends that are still at Disney World. Even riding the Magic Kingdom railroad, you see real deer along the tracks in addition to the fake ones. Wildlife is everywhere.

    The bird was trying to make the squirrel get out the way. That's incredible! Reminds me of the video where a dog is playing with a cat in the backyard and these birds were just flying down and trying to distract the dog, thinking it was attacking the cat. Pretty awesome.

    This is simply a TRUE cast member. She didn't stop to add more time to her pay, she stopped because she didn't want to run over the animal. I find that to be a better cast member than anyone who wants to run the thing over. ANIMALS HAVE LIVES TOO, and if I was driving that monorail, I would have done the same thing!

    ALL drivers do this, not just women drivers. Stop being sexist. Running over an animal in a monorail is not the same as in a car. That monorail would immediately have to get serviced after hitting the squirrel.

    • @driven01
      @driven01 Před 7 lety +7

      I didn't take it as sexist, just an observation of who was driving. If anything I took it as a compliment to her professionalism.
      (*MAYBE* he was saying *some* men would have run it over - which is a negative toward men, not the woman driving it, but even that's a big stretch.)
      That said: I have my doubts you'd have to service a monorail over a squirrel hit. (Not saying you are wrong, just saying I have my doubts ... that would be an incredible design issue)
      I think people are getting too sensitive to language lately. Sometimes a statement of observation is just that, not a deeper meaning.

    My grandfather does not stop for small animals in the road. He once hit a dog just to prove his point. (The dog was fine. It passed underneath his truck.) It all started when someone he knew was seriously injured when they swerved to avoid hitting an animal. As for squirrels, I dislike them. While they may seem cute, they are what I like to call "mini-bears". Hell, the squirrels on my college campus carry the Bubonic plague.

    I don't want to spoil everyones fun, but... Don't these kinds of trains run due on top of magnetic fields? Wouldn't the train just pass over the squirrel without hurting it in the slightest? It would have been enough if she slowed down just a little bit, in case the squirrel freaked out and jumped, thus hitting the train or something.
