  • Kerry are the 2022 football league champions with a fifteen point hammering of Mayo over the weekend but it was David Clifford’s magic that once again set the game apart.
Donnchadh Boyle and Dick Clerkin joined Sinéad Kissane on this week’s Throw-In podcast to discuss all the football action and while Clifford’s 1-06 was breathtaking, it’s the rest of his game that really makes him special says Clerkin.
Roscommon collected the Division 2 title with an injury time goal to seal the win over Galway while Cavan took Division 4 with victory over Tipperary and in Division 3 Mickey Harte continues to work his managerial wonders with Louth’s win over Limerick that sees the Wee County return to Division 2.
Meanwhile, in the hurling, John Mullane joined Sinéad and Donnchadh to look back on Waterford’s fourth hurling league title after the Déise beat Cork by six points and 2022 could be a special year for the county he says.
Every Monday the Throw-In brings you the best insights and analysis from all the weekend GAA action.

Liam Cahill told Tipp Co Board that he needed 3 years. One year to weed out older players and introduce the under 20/21's. Two years to have them rattling the All-Ireland. The Tipp Co Board said no - max 2 years - then they gave 3 years to Colm Bonner!! Waterford sorted Cahill out with a house and a job in Waterford city and every support he needed. Cahill dead right to stay under those conditions. He's an incredible coach. How I wish we had him in Cork. He would do for us what he has done for Waterford. Waterford are a super bunch, well drilled and hardened both physically and mentally. It's management ineptitude is the problem in Cork. Buckets of big, physical defenders from u20's not being brought in. Current players not physically mature (gym wise) enough still and mentally frail. The lack of a will to win and die for each other and the jersey when it comes down to it is frightening. Imagine Mark Coleman not even putting in a hurley or diving to block a goal when within range? Appalling, just watched the player stick the goal and put his hands up. Tim O'Mahony is a fine player, but again, when Bennett caught the ball over Joyce and took off, O'Mahony made no effort to stop him at all costs. Infuriating!! Imagine Jackie Tyrell in that situation? Hats off to Waterford, Limerick, Kilkenny and Tipp when it comes to it. They all come into a game from the first whistle with a ferocity and work rate that Cork just cannot match. That's why Cork won't do against these 4 teams when it comes down to it, sad for me to say.
