Talk to EVERYONE you can, in houses/shops as well, you never know if they'll give you an item or quest or hint at a recruit. SAVE SAVE SAVE and backtrack whenever you can. Also, if you see something unique in a shop, pick it up if you can, it may be something you can't get later on in the game for story reasons.
Not only be mindful of your inventory but your resource inventory as well, there's a limit to that and those resources will help early-mid game once you hit a certain story moment.
The autosave is terrible so you are right , save everytime you can

@@luigimaggames7727 My playtime is 2 hours and my last auto save is 15 minutes into the game lol. Definitely a slippery slope not to constantly save the game.

You're missing one. There is a girl called Yumi. She is in the village upper west. talk to the old lady by the to the left near the park and she ask you to go get her granddaughter. it's super easy
Excellent guide! Your review of Eiyuden Chronicle was also spot on. The problems most will have with the game is that it's just like a PS2-era JRPG in how unforgiving it can be. Modern games in the genre are much more lenient.

On switch you can press "Y" and see what each rune does. The game never tells you this. Can even do it from the rune screen. Dunno what that button would be on PC. But after finding that out. I feel a ton better. And makes it alot easier. Plus each "type" of rune slot has its own mini image. The magic are circles. Passive are the shrunken looking etc. So you can look at it and decide what you need in multiples. Last night still early in game. Applied 3x enchancrmt runes easily. Just wish the game had more explanation of the stuff you can do in the menus and how. Even in the help section.
One last tip... when you get to your first "watery" town to prevent spoilers. make sure you run across ALL bridges in said town. ASAP. It will help QUITE A BIT.

@@saeefa you will get to a town that has an abnormal amount of bridges over waterways. keep running across the different bridges in that town.

Not me gasping in happiness over this video showcasing even MORE OG Suikoden mechanics. I've played 1 and 2 more in total than all Final Fantasy games combined lol
David, if you need a place to make CRAZY amounts of money in a short time, give someone an accessory that increases drops (Luck Ring, I think) and head over to the Den of Dunes, which is an optional place you'll run into when you meet a certain character (she's pretty difficult to miss). Enemies there regularly drop antiques that sell for 5000 baqua, and sometimes even drop items that sell for 10,000! Pair that with the accessory that increases baqua earned, and the support character who increases it even further (they'll join automatically), and you'll be rolling in dough! This is also a good place to level everyone to about 38 or so, and there's a save point at the beginning.
Also, there's a character you can easily nab early on if you talk to an NPC in Altverden, who directs you to Redthroat Ridge, and ANOTHER easy character if you backtrack all the way to Arenside, giving you six extra characters before you need to bother with Mellore.

The healing items aren't as important once you know how to manage the sp healing burst hero combo, and have your first support character to swap in a healer at a checkpoint to heal the group before swapping the original party member back in.

My husband and I are playing this right now, and we just recruited Mellore. Just started yesterday. Boy, is her boss fight *tedious* AF!! Otherwise, as a huge fan of Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and even Rhapsody, I'm all FOR IT. I'm hoping there's a whole squad, and they have a big attack together.
boss isn't random, you can go in... see which side he goes.. .reload save.. use that to your advantage. cake walk
@indefinableification it isn't random?! I failed every damn grimoire guess and burned all my health items😅
The bag limit is straight up exactly legend of dragoon lol. Even the drop to make space is the same.

This was super helpful. I've picked up at least seven characters and I've been trying to grind them All to level 10 I had no idea that there was a level cap on enemy XP.

Don’t forget that for certain characters that defending is actually a good thing to use randomly, as some characters gain buffs such as evasion or hit a lot heavier for several turns

I dunno if it's the lighting but it looks like you have way more stuff in the game room than normal.
I do wonder one thing though while the game is called Hundred heroes are the characters missable if you didn't recruit them while playing the game?
If it is like the Suikoden games, yes. Some characters can be missable, some cannot be gotten if you cross certain points in the game and do not find or recruit them, it is part of the exploration and challenge. It is not mandatory to get all of them, however the ending changes usually for the better the more of them you have. Getting all of them can be a challenge but it provides the best ending. Also provides a boost for your army and headquarters. Suikoden games have 108 Stars of Destiny(not all of them playable, some are support characters, some others run shops or minigames in the HQ, some do nothing but hang out), this game has a little over a hundred. I think 106 was what the kickstarter page counted, don't know what the last number is. Some of the last characters were stretch goals. Don't know of any were cut from the final product.
Also not sure if army battles can kill some of them in this game. In the Suikoden games if your units were wiped out, sometimes a character assigned to them would get wounded, and some other unlucky times they would just die(this was rather rare though). In which a case I ended up reloading and redoing the war battle.

That shirt rocks on you David.
Something thats very easy to gloss over is how shields work. You'll see a shield icon with a ranking of D-S and the higher the rank, the more damage it can reduce from attacks. Make sure you've got some blunt or smash type weapons/skills handy and avoid slashing skills until it breaks so you arent attacking inefficiently.

I wish the map put names next to town icons. I just started a playthrough, and I had no idea where you were talking about when trying to recruit Yusuke.
Just walking around town, the first person I found was Iugo (like you started with), but immediately after I ran into Mellore & followed her quest. I wandered around for a while trying to find the gates you were talking about for Yusuke, but couldn't figure it out among all the random battles slowing me down, so I just stopped trying 😅
You missed Yume as a 2 slot character to recruit in the prologue. You can get her by going to Redthroat Mountain with the other quests.

Damn, I missed Iago and now I’m currently unable to head back to the main town now that I have the castle. Hopefully it won’t be too long until I’m able to actually go back and get him (assuming nobody is missable)
There is game breaking bug that wont let me continue the story. Late in game after i talk to seign on top of the castle . Then u have to talk to euma. It says on current goal you cant get to sleep. Try taking a walk. But in game its day light and nothing progresses the story. At all. I have no backup saves.

Is there a way to make combat select the characters in order of their turns?
It throws me off so hard that I have to pick every character's attack first, regardless of speed or turn order, then watch them play out in a completely different order.
I'm adjusting, but it still feels so strange that I always select my slowest, last acting character's turn first...
No, but you can see the turn order list at the top of the screen
@@davidvinc Yeah, but it's frustrating that it doesn't let you select characters based on the turn order at the top. It feels weirdly out of sync throughout combat.
Keeping this as reference. This is my first Suikoden style game as well but going to wait for the PS5 for performance.

Honestly I benched Lian almost immediately after getting yusuke, with his guarding power up and having her same rune he’s doing on average between 160-280 damage if he has both charges
i think they changed kurotos quest req to just 3 boars now.

@@davidvinc lol, would be funny. you also dont even have to have met him first to like start his quest, as long as you killed the boars you can talk to him immediately after you met him to get him to join.

Alway remember to remove the growth ring from people when switching to another person. Also I found if you start with some who is a low level and fight beasts who are in a higher level, you will get a massive boost of xp.
