Performance Review Questions: SMART Questions to Ask Your Manager in a Performance Review

In a performance review, what questions should you ask your manager? In other words, what questions should an employee ask in a performance review? Many people go into a performance review with a passive approach. They expect their manager to be the only one asking questions. But if you want to look proactive and eager to advance in your career, you need to prepare questions to ask your manager in your performance review.
The type of questions you ask should be drawn from four main categories: overall performance, areas for improvement, future outlook and company insights. Basing your performance review questions on these four categories will ensure you ask a good range of questions to impress your manager with.
