    I would never confront someone over skybusting. I also give benefit of doubt and don't consider the ocassional shots over 40yds skybusting. It might be the one time that week they are able to go out and their only oppurtunity is at 45-50yds. If I'm in their shoes I'm probably taking the shot too. Consistent sky-busting as you described is a whole different thing. It is a big problem and has seemed to be on the rise. Not only does it educate birds for difficult hunting, but it also increases cripples that would otherwise be returning to the breeding grounds for the next year.

    • @BlackBeltWaterfowl
      @BlackBeltWaterfowl  Před rokem

      Exactly.. no these guys were sky busting.. to the point that the birds were so far out of range when they would shoot they wouldn’t even flair…

    The reason I’m trying not to hunt public anymore. I’ve seen it too many times. Showing up just before shooting hours, shooting at birds that you spent the time working in and they are 100 yards or less. Set up 2 hours before shooting light after spending the time to scout just to see that is the most annoying part of public land hunting. I still get my good days too though.

    • @BlackBeltWaterfowl

      @@BlackBeltWaterfowl and some days it’s absolutely incredible. I’d much rather someone come up to me and ask to hunt with me rather than we step on each other toes. The day is always better that way and it’s a good way to make new friends. We are all in it for the same reason, to have a good time and hopefully bring some food home with a good story.

    The last time we had to deal with sky busters we didn't say a thing the first couple of times they did it (more than 50-60yds). About the 3rd or 4th time I yelled at them to stop sky busting and the blind on the other side of them yelled to "let the birds work". They must have understood because it ended. They stayed another hour or so but never shot at anything out of range after that. I've said it before on other channels, that it needs to be mentioned for the newbies watching, that all shots are less than 35-40yds and most are at less than 30yds. We set our farthest decoy at 30yds for reference because we have new hunters in our blind occasionally and it gets them in the frame of mind of acceptable shot range.

  • @rickw6521
    @rickw6521 Před rokem +2

    Good video as always Alan. I have ran into this and have confronted the shooters. I have explained to them that they are making cripples that they may not recover and had to count those to their limit. And was costing them a lot of money with just shooting shells. And if they would let them come closer they would get better kills. And just be respectful to the wildlife and other hunters.
    Now as for cans they are big birds, they look like flying turkey's compared to the size like teal lol. You may not of liked the Ringbill but any bird in the pan is better then a wish sandwich, wish you had some duck meat between 2 pieces of bread lol. And they all taste good. I think you should try shooting some coots and then grind up the breast and make coot chili, it is really good. I know a lot of people look down at those birds but they do eat the same stuff as the ducks lol.
    I do worry about you and the family when i see that bad weather hitting your State. And i always pray to God that he keeps a great youtuber safe so his words of wisdom can be spread. Take care young man and God bless. Capt. Rick

    From the Great Northwest public Duck Blind, well Alan yes it happens a lot, I do not hunt the weekends anymore, and I take a trash bag to the marsh now, so I can clean up other people's shells and cartridges and boxes and their lunches, yep Sky busting at fish ducks and everything else that flies High Enough by them that they cannot decoy, or call in, so yes I get your frustration, we keep it up we won't have these lands for long, God bless from the northwest, cleaning up other people's stuff

    We have the same problem here in the UK on the salt marshes , as someone said the odd long but in range shot is part of the fun of wildfowling but there's a big difference between that and out of range shooting . You'd think after a box of shells for nothing they'd get the message . We don't have the fish and game officers over here , what do they do , if anything , about blatantly out of range shooting ??. A pity your hunt spoilt but you can only be responsible for your behaviour not that of loonies , good luck .

    I think you should have approached these guys. Not in a confrontational way, but in an educational way. There's a good chance that they were either young and overeager, or they were newbies who had little knowledge of the abilities of their shotguns. Or themselves for that matter.
