We got lucky once too, couple years ago during the Teal season in Louisiana. We were setting up our decoys my buddy decided to get in the water and spread the decoys and accidentally jumped on a nice size gator! He jumped back in the boat then we saw a monster size gator came on top and swum away. Make sure to check before get in water, especially when is dark.
That’s crazy! Thanks for sharing!
Know your boat's limits. Last year comming in after an evening hunt in the bay, I came up to a smaller skiff putting along the ship channel. Guy had no lights. A minor and 2 adults in the boat. I decided to follow them in. For some reason both adults moved to the same side of the boat. Usually not a big deal, yet in this instance. 1 guy was about 220lb and the other was close to if not over 400. Water came in over the side and swamped it within seconds. I throttled up to them and rammed my bow over theirs to keep it from listing and had them climb aboard. When I got them balanced out on my 1860, I turned around and only the tip of the bow was out of the water. Clipped a line to it and slowly pulled it to the ramp. Luckily the boat was a good one and after a bit, the scubbers were able to let enough water out that it floated again.
Wow what a story man! Thanks for sharing!
I got a nice set of 14 stitches in my thigh right below the ol beanbag when i slipped a foot climbing up old screw in tree steps. Fell 3ft, punctured my thigh, and now have an intetesting scar ive had to explain to a few women.lol
😳 wow!!
From the Great Northwest public Duck Blind, you got a thumbs up for me Alan good video, as always God bless from the northwest
Thank you, and I appreciate you watching!
Luckily the only thing I have hurt is my feelings when we don’t see ducks😂
🤣🤣 unfortunately that’s how it is sometimes lol
Everyone needs to watch this
Share it all over social media!!
Luckily we haven’t had any accidents. We have had some close calls and some dumb ideas that luckily didn’t go bad.
Our closest call that could’ve gone bad was also a foggy morning. We launched the boat in the river and went to head south. We were going to navigate by gps in the fog. GPS got locked in a different orientation than normal. Ended headed NE vs SW. ended up headed to the main channel of the Mississippi instead of hugging the bank and dykes. 2 of us were hollering at the driver that we heard water rushing more than we should. Turns out we were headed to the main channel and a barge was coming down that channel. We missed that barge by maybe 20 yards. Always be aware of surroundings and speak up if you aren’t sure of what you’re doing.
Hey man thanks for sharing your story!
I’ve had young guys do the same around here in north MS on opening day. Fog just like you described and they came and passed us wide open with no light bars on. I looked at my buddies in disbelief and said I don’t see how they can even see. Life jackets are a must! We had some hunters in Vicksburg pass away on the mighty MS river and they weren’t believed to be wearing their life jackets. Can never be too careful on a boat. Complacency kills!
Yes it does there seems to always be a similar story like that every year or so..
Great topic and great video.
Stuck a knife in myself while dressing a deer a few years ago and now I always carry a first aid kit.
Always a good idea to have some form of first aid! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing this! Really good stuff to keep in mind here!
Thanks for watching
Last year I was hunting in Swan Creek WMA in Alabama, weekend after the opener. This place is always full and not full of smart hunters. Had a group set up right across the hole from us even though we flashed the hell outta them with our lights. Anyways the hunt goes on and they end up crippling a bird. Well it starts limp billing towards our side and they clean it up while I was grabbing a gadwall and I guess I was lined up perfectly behind it and a flyer hit me in the hand. Went about a 1/4 inch into the meat between my pointer finger and thumb. Wild experience. Dug it out with a gerber and called the game warden. Be careful not only of yourself but of your surroundings people
Man that’s some story there! I hate that happened I try my best to preach to others about setting up to close!!
My buddy jeff severed a tendon on his wrist cutting the esophogus out of an elk. Snapped back up onto his forearm. Bled like you cut the op off a coke bottle, turned it upside down, andwent walking. Had to get it re-strung ad reconnected at hospital and still doesnt have full use of it 10years later. I packed that animal off the mountain solo after i dropped him off. Thaks jeff....
Whoa man that’s terrible thanks for sharing
Tanks Alan - great words . I’ve found Google Maps in satellite view to show your location - helpful for finding your way to the blind in heavy fog - like your brother - so easy to get turned around. “Y’all bust ‘em up “ 🤪‼️
Thanks for watching buddy!! Google does help a lot!
This is my second duck hunting season luckily I hunting with people who have duck impoundments so we can walk on land to the duck blind .thank you for the heads up.
Hey I appreciate you watching!
Great vid Alan. Fog happens a lot on Lake Michigan but and slow and steady get you where you want to be, This is like shotgun shells speed kills in the fog. And very easy to get turned around in fog.
Absolutely! Thanks for sharing and watching!
took a new guy hunting told him i was gonna shoot the ducks on my right the others will get up an go left an thats when he can shoot instead when i stood up he put his barrel on my shoulder an took off half my arm luckily i got big arms but 1in to the left would of hit my head im very lucky but i still want to take new ppl hunting cause its addicting sport an i love it he was in shock i had to pic up decoys an drive boat back happened very new learning curve im no stranger to injuries but this was my first gun shot injury an it has changed me for the better sep 26 2021
What a story, you never know when you’ve got new people to the sport in the blind, thanks for sharing your story!
Good story, great advice. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching
One thing I can't stress enough about, is keep you guns unloaded while traveling. I guy that I did a job for had a loaded gun in his truck and his daughter was outside and the gun went off and killed her. Happend about 3 years ago
My son and I went duck hunting and we setup in a spot and didn't know there was other people close by and when the ducks where flying the guys started shooting and that was shooting really close that I got hit by some pellets. We ended up packing our stuff and leaving, never hunted that place since, to many people hunting in one small area
Terrible experience man, so sorry to hear about the guys daughter, thanks for sharing your stories
Last weekend a group of buddies and I were out in a marshy area with a somewhat soft bottom with spotty holes. I stumbled into one and tripped up to my neck in the water and past my waders. Thankful for the 70' high that day but any colder and would've gotten very dangerous boarder line hyperthermia potential. I'd suggest to take your time walking through these areas, may not be such deadly but could easily put you in a poor health state.
You never know what’s underneath the water! Thanks for sharing your story!
Awesome videos keep up the good work bubba!!!
Thanks for watching buddy
My buddy drowned in a boat race here in Arkansas and I got a uncle with no thumbs from shooting them off. He was rolling a cigarette while holding the gun. The stock was on the ground barrel pointed up and the gun went off. I’ve seen some wicked boat wreaks be safe guys.
Wow! Thanks for sharing!
Good word brother, appreciate this.
Thanks for watching
when i was young and dumb took off from a boat launch with no lights on my boat,a faster boat passed me up really close because they didnt see me the wake from boat pushed my boat hard towards the bank i hit a big tree hanging over the water when i hit it it made my boat do a whole 360 and sunk rite there luckily water was about 3feet deep
Wow! Always dangerous when your on the water, thanks for sharing
A fun adventure, while hunting in fog duck appears suddenly very difficult to shoot
Greetings from Pakistan my brother 🤝💪
🤝🏻 hey man thanks for watching!
My bother and I were going out opening day we got the spot we wanted the shooting time was at 9 am we got the spot at 5 am it was a weed patch in the middle of the marsh one little weed patch about 30 yards from us .About 830 a guy comes and gets in the little weed patch next to us I said to the man he's to close he said f off .The season shooting time comes and we were shooting at some mallards a blue wing teal comes between us and him low and he shoots at him and hits my bother in the face and head my bother falls in to the water .I grabbed him pulled him up he was bleeding bad he got hit by 6 pellets .The guy that shot him took off for shore I yelled for help some body saw it happen came with his boat and got us to shore he end up with a cracked skull and a broken bridge bone on his nose never did get the guy . This was back when we could still shoot lead shot he was hit with no 2 shot still has those bbs two-day . Very close to losing his eyes That's my hunting story .
Man that is a terrible experience! It’s so unbelievable how some people can be on public land, even though it’s public people have to learn to respect other hunters and always keep a safe distance! Thanks for sharing your story!
You gotta watch the branches on the trees that you lean your guns on. Last year I was duck hunting with my brother and we had our guns leaned up against trees beside us, well, a group of gadwall came in and we grabbed our guns just for a stick to catch his trigger and he bout shot himself in the head… now I know that it sounds like we’re unsafe already because what about the safety?… his safety was ON, we were both freaked out and he was holding his head and I thought he shot himself, but after all that mess he said that he thought he has the safety on and I looked at the gun and yep, sure nuff it was on… just gotta be careful out there… ig the story is more of to make sure to ALWAYS know where your gun is pointed and never point it at yourself or others.
That could have ended really bad! Thanks for sharing your story!
Safety first. Live to shoot more ducks!
Well said!! Thanks for watching!
I've learned not to sit directly behind the decoys on public land cause too many idiots who go out late/at first light
Good point, thanks for sharing!
