Hey Max that Churchill is a diamond in the rough. I have a Churchill NB 18" x 6" Surface Grinder built 1959. Still within a tenth of a thou. Will be interesting to see if yours has the hardened slippers on the slideways like mine. My J&S 1300 Cylindrical Grinder is similar, double swivel with in/external heads.
I still owe you some pictures once my knee gets better.

If it were me with the personal doors, I’d be inclined to put in two diagonal braces (in compression), just to obviate any future tendency to sag over time.

I still have nightmares from using machine skates - don't use them anymore. I ran into a rigging company here in the US that knew a better way. They used a series of hardwood rods - something like 30mm in diameter. As one rod come out - it gets placed in front of the machine - to steer a kick here and there. They used a lever to push the machine along. What was a nightmare of a job, ends up looking like play time.

You just have to be super careful with skates & know what can go wrong .
Never heard of wood rods being used before , would work providing the machine had enough of a flat area for them to run on .
Steel round bar is the easiest but same again , the machine has to have a suitable base .
There is the odd ''Wobbly '' ( tractor crane )come up for sale here , unfortunately i do not have the
