I still recommend hanging plastic from ceiling, taping up all seams, puddling water on the floor. Doing this will be better than nothing:)

    I really have never seen anyone more talented and knowledgeable than you on CZcams. In fact it’s been years since I’ve seen that degree of talent! I remember seeing some people on HGTV back in the 90’s doing something like this and they were high paid experts. I can’t remember the show right now. Maybe the furniture guys out of Philadelphia…
    Also the quality of that paint is extraordinary!!! I haven’t seen paint like that since I painted my claw foot bathtub Kelly Green in an alkyd based oil paint. That stuff was great!
    There’s nothing available anymore that’s not latex, low VOC… I mean I get it it’s more eco friendly but it’s garbage!!! I painted with a glaze my patio furniture recently and all I could get (at Home Depot/Lowe’s) was latex junk! My mom used to get this nice oil base for her patio furniture back in the 90’s and it’s just not available!!! I didn’t need to paint my furniture back then- had I known!!! It’s hard to find glazes too! I had to make my own with two parts gloss to one part paint. It’s holding up ok on my patio furniture but the chairs that baked on the sun most of this summer have started to peel! What the heck. You know , all that work and immaculate prep and application and it goes to crap.
    I’m totally checking out the products you recommended. Keep up the AWESOME work! I’m very very impressed and that’s hard to do with me. I read a lot of books, showing my age lol, but that’s all we had! I’ve been restoring furniture for almost 30 years as a hobby. My dad is a cabinet maker by trade and he’s always commenting on my work. It’s a lot to live up to him! But you’d blow him away!!!

      A humidifier won’t help. If you could construct a plastic booth and plastic the floor, then you could soak bath towels and lay them on the floor. That would help moreso than nothing at all.

    Hi there. I have a question about your technique of pouring water all over the floor so you can paint a high gloss without dust. Do you stand on the watered floor? Is it possible to get an electric shock while using your spray paint or sanding?

    • @KaylaPayne
      @KaylaPayne  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I do stand in the puddled water, yes. My spray gun is pneumatic, not electric so I don’t have any electrified hoses laying in the water.
      As for sanding, I mostly do that outside of my spray booth! If at all possible, I take the furniture out of the plastic booth and sand it everywhere to keep dust out of the booth.

    I just watched your video again. I have a pice I’m working on and would love to know where you got those beautiful pulls. They are so unique and either those or something similar from that company would make my cabinet pop.
    Another thing is I ended up getting several French Provincial pieces because they were free or so cheap I couldn’t say no. It’s not my favorite style but I do make them look beautiful and that’s what counts. I don’t feel that gorgeous high gloss green would look good on them. • @KaylaPayne
      @KaylaPayne  Před rokem +2

      I realize it may seem unnecessary. And truth be told, you don't HAVE to sand between paint coats one and two.
      Generally speaking, a paint failure won't happen if you apply your 2nd coat of paint (within a reasonable time frame) without sanding the 1st coat.
      BUT...to achieve the best results possible, sanding that 1st paint coat is needed. We've all heard "it's in the prep" a million times, right?
      Well THIS is what that saying means when it comes to gloss finishes!

    At every sanding stage you mentioned the number grit sandpaper. EXCEPT when you sanded after the first coat of green finish. Then you said you used a high grit sandpaper ,,, ? Why not tell us the grit number at that step ? “ High grit “is not a number.

      I didn’t even realize I did that…nor was it on purpose. If you wanted to know what it was…it would’ve been super easy to simply ask me in a respectful way.

      I appreciate and accept your apology. Sanding between paint coats, I’ll typically use 600 or 800. I have the best luck with automotive abrasives - 3M is what I prefer.

    Why did you decide not to use bondo to fill in the router detail on the top piece?

      Two part bondo dries too quickly for what I needed here. It would’ve worked fine, but I didn’t want to mix up several batches.
