- I recently purchased the Minecraft guide to redstone, an official Mojang product designed to teach people how to use Redstone. Learning redstone is hard, and every redstone circuit in Minecraft has it's use, with thousands of variations of all the Minecraft redstone circuits. This Mojang Approved redstone guide is a very good starting point, but it definitely has some odd builds! In this Minecraft redstone video we take the Mojang approved redstone contraptions and improve Mojangs redstone.

I heard somewhere that Bedrock redstone was how it's supposed to work but they kept some bugs on java.
@@jackofalltradeshermes if bedrock works as intended, then I’m happy Java got it broken. As a bedrock redstoner, it can say that bedrock redstone is terrible, it’s very buggy and random. One time I built a pillar of observers attached to a slime pillar getting pushed by a piston, these observers powered pistons, it was completely random which pistons actually activated, some would fire, some wouldn’t, and next time it would be different. It’s terrible.
Note: Zombies don't seek shade from sunlight but skeletons do.
this was an old behavior, also the machine will not work with skell too because now they avoid holes in the ground, that's why mumbo used opened trapdoor, so they think that is a full block.
Also only OG remember when water moats are overpowered and protect you from every mob because they simple dont swin.
@@Feorblack Well, undead mobs now sink, so a moat still protects against zombies and skeletons. And if the mpbs cannot get out on the other side (two blocks high) then you still have total safety.

@@Feorblack skeletons still seek for shade in daytime, I can perfectly see it on my survival world. Also, since the holes still have trapdoors, they should still be able to pathfind, whether the trapdoors are opened or not. I mean, Mumbo showed it himself.
@@CityNaturePig Yeah, moats is a good protective option again since this update, not so overpowered anymore since it do not work against creeper and we also have phantons now.
I remember on early minecraft that I put a moat in every build for safety, also look's cool. Now I simple spam torch everywhere.

@@harryhelina9859 I watched the video again after two years of making that comment to give you an answer. Something like that could be ideal for a minigame in which you have teams, each with a colored leather armor. In order to restock the armor, you swap the armor stands.
Generally speaking, no, you won't have more than one standard armor and the one you save in case you die and need to recover your good armor and don't want to go naked.
Just got into redstone for the first time since beta, and it is just crazy how different everything is now. Most of my automated farms are essentially just an observer and piston now, when in the past it would have been some big redstone circuit that I would have just given up on after a few attempts.
Just like coding, on first day they teach you how to print string "hello world" then you realize there's a ton of ways to print "hello world"

I've always had great success just matching the button to the surface it's on. I usually do this in mountain sides where there's exposed stone, a slightly tucked away stone button is almost invisible if you're not looking for it.
There were way older versions of these books, I had them, I'm guessing they updated them and didn't really improve upon much, hence the lack of observers and buttons on the floor and stuff.
I think that book came out around 1.8

This is science vs. engineering, to a T - Taking core theoretical concepts and making them into useful designs! To make a great redstone build, as much thought goes into the actual theory (circuits etc.) as does the optimization and final design. So cool.
one thing I do have to say is its cool that observers have made these contraptions so much easier, these things were made before observers so to see that these things were made so much easier by a simple block being added is very nice
I think what we learned here is that Mumbo needs to write his own redstone book.
What an idea, I'd be all over that it could be like odea with all the builds but in a Nice book that you can always reference when you need

Does the Seeking shade effect over right other rules though? Cause normally mobs won't cross redstone lines, and the entire trap seemed to be blocked off by a line of redstone.
The most confusing thing about Redstone is the placement direction of observers. Definitely backwards. Will never get used to it.
I think people are supposed to recognize the suboptimal designs of the builds, and improve them as part of the learning process, a soft encouragement for people to teach themselves and get them to think like a red stone engineer.
Next video: I wrote my own "How to redstone" book and successfully sold it to Mojang

It's really quite simple
The reason why all the pistons have so many repeaters is actually because the wanted the book to be helpful to both Java and Bedrock players - In bedrock, you need repeaters behind a piston except in special cases for them to fire
That cant possibly be the case. The armor stand build and trap build both use quasi connectivity, which dont exist in bedrock.
I kinda prefer the big and loud piston clock. It really feels like a power generator, and you can build a nice metal, stone, and glass she'll around it to really sell the industrial generator look.
Mojang: "No! We can't make a redstone book with only observers but no redstone!"
Mumbo: "Yes you can"
To be fair observers are like transistors, you could make a lot of different logic gates with transistors, same here.

His "Minecraft: 10 Redstone Projects for Beginners" is actually really helpful. He gives you a world download with all the materials you need, and then in each segment he teaches you a new redstone circuit and then gives you a goal of something to create. You pause the video, build the contraption in your own world, and then keep watching to see how Mumbo would solve the same problem. (Just note, there are some errors importing it to 1.16. So you either have to use the version it was made in or pay close attention to his set-up.)

For the piston squisher, since you said it was designed before we could crawl, that was also before we could even have redstone dust placed on top of pistons and powering them without breaking.
It's a good thing Mumbo didn't write this book because it will cause the reader's brain to implode in on itself

And for the Redstone on pistons, I think that came in 1.3, or for 2012.
Observers were added in 1.11, which was 2016.
Since the book was made in 2017, all three of these were in the game.

9:48 I think that the “top section” in the redstone guide was like that because before 1.16 any redstone on top of pistons would pop off when it extended.
Also there may have been no observers at the time of writing the book

@@ravenstar1397 it's electricity in real life, it's an implementation of electricity to the game, but the mechanics of real world and game is very different.
You could also use campfires, then you don't need a minecart, you could just use normal hoppers(but redirecting with water first is ideal)

-Learn to read Minecraft code (where one usually discovers all the weird shiz)
-Watch tutorials from the technical Minecraft community... on everything
-Talk with SciCraft constantly about compactifying contraptions (because that usually involves weird redstone)

*-Make sure you are learning how to do redstone in the type of Minecraft you are in (EX: Bedrock and Java).*
@@aperson6081 minecraft code is in java, which is probably a lot more complicated than commands, i tried learning javascript once and didn't get very far, java is even harder i think

It's just insane with the quality of the camera you use for a 5-7 sec clip
The reason for all the repeaters at the end is because Pistons used to not work by simply putting Redstone over them you had to direct the Redstone directly at it and you couldn't do that when they were side by side without repeaters

My biggest problem with redstone is how gated the better designs are. You need to have slime and access to the nether. Some servers I've been on save nether travel as a special server wide event, so I have to build with the old methods until I'm allowed to use quarts. It's useful knowing how to make old contraptions like the piston clock. Personally, I prefer the 5 minute clock (arrow shooting at a button or an item dropping.) 9:40 I made something like that pre combat update, but my blocks extended from the roof and had a timer set so it would shuffle the layout depending on how long you took. I aligned them in a 20x20 grid, making an ever changing maze. It was one of my most annoying builds, but it was worth the time to see other player's frustrations as they try to navigate it. My timers were a mix of hopper clocks, 5 minute clocks, and daylight sensors. The maze was also lightless. I used slabs as the floor and lit them up from below to make a glowing edge lighting effect.

The best part about this video is how it goes from the most beautiful stunning camera shots and angles ever to “Minecraft graphics”

To me, that redstone handbook feels like Kindergarten-12th grade math, while Mumbo’s redstone is like college calculus.

I remember collecting each Minecraft book from the scholastic book fair when I was a kid. If I couldn't afford the book one year I'd just finesse it. Very much worth it for the memories
