In this episode we take a look at some facts, secrets, and history of NiGHTS. NiGHTS is an action platforming series developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. The first game in the series required such precise controls that an analogue controller, known as the Saturn 3D controller, was designed specifically for the game when it originally released on the Sega Saturn. NiGHTS into Dreams... received positive reviews, and has been ported to the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows. A second game, Nights: Journey of Dreams, was released for the Nintendo Wii in 2007.

I think my first experience with NiGHTS was the minigame during the pinball section of the casino in the first Sonic Adventure game. I had no idea what was going on at the time. :-P
Wasn't that like most of us? I thought Nights was about collecting cards because of that level. Love your Galerians playthrough and Suda51 marathon by the way, Lotus.

My first experience was wanting it before it came out! lol I kept drooling over it when I seen it in store books like Sears Catalogs, and when I finally got it for the Saturn, I was really happy. I love this game. :D

A few years back I added a trivia bit to NiGHTs on the sonic wiki about NiGHTs similiarities to Peter Pan, it was removed and ragected because one of the more active members of the wiki "saw no simularities".
I would like to take this momment to make a statement to this person in relation to this video.

Fun Fact: Nights into Dreams is the only non-Nintendo game that Miyamoto publicly said he would of liked to have created himself. That's just how much he likes the game.

Well it has some completion in that area; like Ristar, Jet Set Radio, Billy Hatcher, Vectormam, and many more.

Nights Journey of Dreams for the Wii was the first game I bought with my own money as a kid. I loved it!
The flying was a bit iffy but I still loved it too!

Nights is one of my favorite designs for a character, ever.
The creators of nights and LSD for ps1 should come together and make a game.
That would most certainly make the nighmare sections more terrifying, and possibly much more interesting if they weren't just relegated to boss battles.
That would be soooo difficult. LSD was based on someone's actual dream journal. The gameplay styles are also different... Not saying "No," just saying "How would you do this?" Just because they're both dreams... Er...
What I assume would happen is that the gameplay would be based on _NiGHTS_, while the sections in Nightmare would have some the abstract and often disturbing imagery from _LSD_. Seems like a nice fit for me, although yeah, I could see it being tricky for the two teams to work together just for that.

This is one of the only rare examples I can think of in the history of game design where the developer was original and didn't totally rip Nintendo's ideas off. That's what Miyamoto is always striving for in his games, so it makes sense he probably likes NiGHTS and wanted that to be the kind of competition in the market.
but the truth is Nintendo hasn't created every single game genre. The didn't create the sandbox games, nor shooters, no fighting games, this game is no exception.
Don't you just love how Sonic Team ignores NIGHTS and Burning Rangers for more mediocre Sonic games...
Right? Sonic has gotten over done, its time they bring back the older games they made.

I really love the soundtrack for Journey of Dreams, especially the Dream Gate, gah, I could listen to it for hours, just being in the Dream Gate, running around, exploring what little there was, super awesome.

I'm a huge NiGHTS fan, and it makes me really happy to see that someone did so much research into my favorite game of all time. I even learned something new, for I had no idea Steven Spielberg was involved in any of the development. That is really cool!
I wonder...how long until another NiGHTS game arrives for us to enjoy? Maybe the answer is in my dreams...

Man, I remember for the longest time, they said they wouldn't do a sequel because NiGHTs was perfect, and they didn't want an inferior sequel to ruin it.

Nights for Wii is one of those games that could've been amazing if they just put more time into it...
That game was a trash fire at a base level. It would need to be heavily reworked.

Nights Wii felt held back because of its flaws/feels rushed that's what I meant. No need to be a smart ass.
Vaughnie JoD was meant to be a 360 game, but SEGA decided to put it on the Wii instead like a year before it was set to release. Forcing Sonic Team not only with the task of porting what they had to the Wii, but finishing the rest of the game in the span of a year.
It's another case of SEGA making bafflingly terrible decisions and their developers paying the price.
Although giving the game more polish wouldn't have helped much. That game is overflowing with terrible design choices that more development time wouldn't have helped.

ReBoot is smooth and clean enough to feel life like, but the way the characters emote is cartoonish enough to keep it out of the uncanny valley. Basically ReBoot is awesome.

NiGHTS is the sibling of Reala, a nightmare. NiGHTS him/herself is a rogue nightmaren rebelling against them, in a sense

I played Journey of Dreams when I was younger, and it was one of my favorite games. Nights is still one of my favorite characters, and I've always been sad that they never made another sequel. At some point, I really need to go back and play the first one.

One interesting thing about the Nightopians is that you can create Mepians by breeding them with Nightmaren orbs.
Mepians are Nightopians with Nightmaren features (like a head or hands). These Mepians can also breed and have a small chance to create King Pian.
King Pian throws rocks at Nightmaren and builds a castle in the level he appears in over time. The castle doesn’t do anything, but it stays in that level forever, which is cool.
Digi is now one step closer to doing a Who Dat on Shadow the Hedgehog.

I had never heard of NiGHTS until NiGHTS Journey of Dreams. I loved it, and my most memorable stage was the music one where you fly through the notes to make the intro.
wow, it felt good when the narrator said "Phantasy star online". that game is a long time favorite of mine so hearing that name said from another person really makes me happy.
Sadly had to pause the video and take a break. Whenever doing narration make sure you don't say every sentence in the exact same way!

Came here for Digi finally glad to see that Digi is getting out there and now because of this Digi's channel is finally getting attention :) I found about him through Zone Runners and then I found about Digi's channel and show and let me say its one of my favorite channels i'm subbed too and Entertained each video he pumps out (Which are Character Analysis videos but he does a lot with it tho its not just a simple boring video). I didn't know about NIGHTS before, I heard about it in the comments of a Balan Wonderworld and checked it out. That's something ! I wish my parents weren't that close-minded when it comes to video games. Because of them, I missed a lot of gems. Like, I first heard about Zelda Majora's Mask (a classic) when the remakes came out ! Can you imagine that ? This is why I try to catch up, by learning about all the video game franchises that are worth a try. That includes NIGHTS.

One of my childhood games on sega saturn. game was hard as a kid since there were time limits on levels, boss fights had no explanation, and no save points.
