    This was very informative for me. I am 49 and haven't worked in an office in a few years now. Husband works full time and is about 8 years from retiring. I was brainstorming something I could get training in to help really get us ready for his retirement. We have done quite a bit already, but every little bit helps.
    I was thinking of fields that are always going to be a big part of the workforce and life in general. Medical coding came to mind. I did work at the front desk of a medical office for a few years, and that side of it did interest me medical coding. I will look into your links for more information still doing some thinking on all this. It's scary to think at my age, trying something new and getting training. Coders will always be needed in some form or fashion. I really enjoyed what you had to share. I will definitely keep looking into this.

I have an associate's degree in Business Administration-Management. There are two different programs at the local community college, one is a short certificate where you take the classes to prep for a career in medical coding and the other program is under workforce development. In the program under community college, you will take two classes on medical terminology, and not sure how much medical terminology you will learn under workforce development. If you were me, which would you enroll in? I can begin classes next month. Also, do you think an entry-level medical record or coder employer will hire me if I enroll in classes? You mentioned there may be employers that have you turn your camera on to make sure you're at your home office, not caring for young children...does this mean this line of work wouldn't be ideal for stay at home moms of littles?

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  Před 4 měsíci

      Medical coding requires meeting specific productivity and accuracy standards, which might be challenging while actively caring for little ones. While it's a rewarding field, it often demands undivided attention to detail, which can be tough with the unpredictability of young children around. That said, there are indeed opportunities out there that offer more flexibility and might better suit the stay-at-home mom lifestyle. It's all about finding the right fit for you and your unique situation. Best of luck in your search for the perfect opportunity!

    What should be the preference online course or on site ?

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  Před 5 měsíci

      Choosing between online courses and on-site training really boils down to your personal learning style and schedule. Online courses offer great flexibility and a wide variety of options, perfect for those with tight schedules or who prefer learning at their own pace. On the other hand, on-site training provides a more hands-on learning experience and immediate feedback from instructors, which can be invaluable for certain subjects. Consider what environment you thrive in, how much interaction you prefer, and the nature of the content you're learning. Both have their unique advantages, so think about what aligns best with your goals and lifestyle!

    I have a question about certification credentials. AAPC and AHIMA seem to be the preferred certification routes for various organizations, however through my school we take certification exams through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA). I just passed the exam, but am wondering what the difference between certifications is and which organizations recognize AMCA certification? I definitely plan on expanding my certification credential down the line after gaining experience, but nothing I see regarding jobs for medical coding positions recognize the AMCA credential. Did I waste my time going through a year long program to get a generic certification that is not recognized or sought after?

      There are several books used in coding and shown in this video. CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS will be about $200-$300 and the training manual $100-$200. There are no free legal pdf versions, eBook prices are about the same. I'm currently working full-time on my CZcams channel and other projects, and I don't have the bandwidth to take on any additional commitments.
