For clarification the law is not to wear a wig, but that the hair be covered 😊 So everyone has their custom how! It could be a wig, a scarf, or a bag if someone wishes 😉
The point of covering the hair is to avoid vanity. Wearing wigs as a “ head covering” is all about vanity. This wig tradition skirts the spirit of the law.
I have to agree with u. It seems counterintuitive to the beliefs that I know of to be the reason for covering hair according to Abrahamic religions, I'm wondering if the " woman's energy kabbalah thing is an accurate depiction of the teaching or if this truly is what orthodox Jews believe.
I respect the tradition, but this video still does not help me understand the reason to wear a wig. If the tradition states to cover your hair for modesty, then how is wearing a wig (a beautiful long luscious one at that) respect that tradition ? Not showing your hair to the outside world, but wearing a beautiful wig is ok? How do people know it’s even a wig? Wouldn’t simply wearing a turban wrap, snood or scarf make more sense? I’m sorry, I’m not trying to be disrespectful, I’m really trying to understand.
I'm not sure I understand the idea of wearing a wig. If you are told to cover your hair, I understand that completely -- meaning to cover your head with a scarf, hat, etc. And by wearing a scarf, it says you are a married woman. As a married woman, how does anyone else know that you're wearing a wig? You can say you are. To me a scarf would outwardly acknowledge your faith and the fact you are married. To me a wig just doesn't do it. And 3000 years ago, the woman would wear a head covering - not a wig.
Most of the time when I see Hasidic women wearing wigs they look fake....not made to look so realistic like how the general public wears lace front wigs etc. The wigs don't look real...so you can tell they are head coverings.
It’s not as much an outward symbol of being married but more that it’s something you do for yourself and your religion when you are married. Wearing a scarf or a noticeable wig can show that you are married, just like wearing wedding rings everyday shows it, but the ring was only necessary for the actual marriage ceremony and married people can choose not to wear them after but just because your don’t see it, like a good natural looking wig, doesn’t mean they aren’t married. Jewish law says a married woman must cover their natural hair. There are a few interpretations based on where the Jews lived during the diaspora, when the Jews were kicked out of ancient Israel in around 70 AD. In the Ashkenazi community, Jews from Eastern Europe, it is interpreted that a wig can count as a hair covering since it does cover your natural hair as much as a headscarf would. This confuses a lot of people since the only references most people have regarding covering your hairs is Muslim women covering their hair for modesty. Modesty isn’t the reason married Jewish women cover their hair so they can look and feel as beautiful as they want in which every way that might be, as a wig or a headscarf, as long as their natural hair is covered. Hope this helps!
You are 100% right but what the woman who made this video doesn't say is that many Jewish women for that reason do not wear wigs because many Orthodox Jews particularly those of European background almost never acknowledge the even the existence of millions of Jews of Middle Eastern background with completely different customers and traditions which are many say accurate and representative of ancient custom
@@andreamessiasgomes7118 It has nothing to do with Sumeria. Many ancient cultures and religions make use of wigs, Judaism from some parts of the world being one of them.
Jewish women were directed to cover their hair to prevent fallen angels from uh, interfering with them. Apparently, womens' hair is very attractive to them. Not sure why wearing another's hair would be effective in light of this.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to be negative about this, but to me, it feels like wearing a wig, completely defeats the purpose of covering the hair...and what about the ethical aspects of wearing someone else's hair. Where did the hair come from? From which third world country? Who is the woman who had to give away her beauty for the benefit of another woman in a first world country? So many ethical and human rights issues...I don't know where to start from... 😔
Lots of Jewish women don't wear wigs but scarves. Everyone does what they think makes the most sense to them. The point is that the commandment is only for your husband to see your hair growing from your head (applying to Jewish Women) and not out of modesty.
I completely agree with you I think nobody should sacrifice themselves for someone else But it’s more complicated than what me and you think 💭 I love the Jewish culture
@Ayse G Shanal - There’s nothing wrong with wearing a Sheitel…. You can’t get very high quality synthetic sheitels. I have both human hair and synthetic, but I still wear my tichel most of the time. You can always check the ‘sourcing’ on the company you’re considering the products to.
@Ayse G Shanal What about the ethics of the mica sourced to create the technology you've used to watch this video and write this comment? Or to craft the cosmetics you seem to be wearing in your profile photo? It's very easy to point fingers, but it isn't always the productive thing to do. This space is better used to be grateful to people who kindly and bravely share insights into their cultural practices-bringing people closer together. People, united, fight for other people and their human rights. Choosing to be accusatory or bring negativity into something that others consider a holy practice will only serve to divide people.
Wigs can be a symbol of dedication to Hashem and your spouse, to show respect to your marriage and body, and for "modesty" in the sense you do not understand. Not everything needs to be seen through your narrow lense of what modesty, beauty, femininity and sexuality is.
G-d didn't say that you should wear a wig, just that you should over your hair. For thousands of years Jewish women wore a scarf to cover their hair, it is only in the last few centuries that Jewish women began to wear wigs.
I was always taught that after marriage a women covers her hair so she will not be attractive to another man. It is a question of modesty. In Mea Sharim you can still see women with the shaved head and a shatel. The wig only came about the last 40 to 50 years. Better to wear a lovely hat or scarf to be humble in the eyes of HaShem.
But a wig can make a woman just as attractive, so it rather defeats the purpose. Also in Torah times women didn't have wigs they covered their heads with scarf or cloth wrappings...so this modern wig wearing is a bit hypocritical, women still want to look attractive with a nice wig..
Confused... why does it fall to a woman to obscure themselves when men should just control themselves? It's the age old case of male domination and shoving responsibility for their actions onto women. I don't mean to demean your beliefs but what's so special about dead keratin?
I'll see people in various religions (barring Amish, they stay plain overall) have women wear headscarves for modesty, but also wear 20 gallons of makeup and a very fashionable outfit. Hey, I don't judge, it's whatever, I am not saying it makes them less closer to God, but logically thinking only it seems to totally defeat the purpose in preserving modesty and not getting unwanted looks of other men.
@@wbl5649 We do not live our lives as the people in the torah, just follow the rules they did. It is not about unatracktiveness or sexually repelling others, its about dedication to your spouce, dedication to your marriage, and privacy. Modesty doesnt mean ugly.
@@erikadunne not every single thing in the entire world is about men. people do many things for themselves and their own comfort and relationship with G-d. Wigs and scarves arent meant to make you less beautiful or less "sexual" but to preserve and protect the form G-d has given, show dedication to your husband, and yes for modesty. Not the modesty you think of.
I used to wear wigs ("human hair" apparently). I stopped for ethical and personal reasons. One on the biggest questions for me on wearing someone else's hair : hair has STRONG spiritual ties to their owner, how do you feel comfortable wearing someone else's hair while being religious ? What do you believe your God thinks of you wearing the hair that doesn't belong to you ? These questions are really important to me since I strongly believe in the spiritual essence that hair has. Hair are antennas, it conveys the owner's personal energy. I remember people in India, Africa etc use to burn their shedded hair to avoid anybody doing which craft with it.
@@user-yh2vm2ti3c thank you for your time and discourse. It's not my logic, it is spiritual. People believe in the strength of hair since day of dawn. It's not only an "item of fashion", at least not for many people. Many cultures whom have been oppressed, were deprived from their hair. Hair are like entenas, that doesn't mean that if you don't have hair you're not spiritual 😂. And your comment is actually interesting because cultures that put a lot of attention to their hair very rarely are victims of baldness... Many people grow their hair the longest they can for spiritual reasons. It's okay if you don't believe in it. But don't come to people who believe in the invisible. Humans around the world have been trying to understand the essence of life through centuries, they know there's something in what we can't see full stop. Please, you can continue to consider that your brain plays with you when you dont understand something but don't disrespect the studies of people who stress the importance of the connection between mind, body, earth and universe. True lies in the heart of the one who wants to believe in. There is no "THE TRUTH" when talking about spirituality If you don't believe in it's your problem. As long as those beliefs don't harm other people then, I guess we're good. The woman in the video IS religious, she wears wigs because her God asked her to cover her hair. How can she consider hair like an "item of clothing" if her beliefs explain that hair is important. 🤨 Hair is way more than that, it's a form of communication, it's an extension of yourself, it's a protection.
Thank you honey for explaining to the world a part of your culture habits, its beautiful to learn and understand each other what ever our backgrounds are.
Thank you for this usefull explanation. Il like to understand how and why people do act and think a certain way. Nevertheless, it is a fact that women are most of the time much more affected by religions with rules…🤷🏻♀️

Wow I wish I had a wig salon like that near me! Thank you for showing us the process and explanation behind wearing wigs. I know literally nothing about Judaism, so it’s interesting to learn the reason behind things like this ❤
Wearing wigs is a modern day, manmade custom. God commands us to shun vanity and the lust of the flesh. We are born with a sinful nature and we must overcome the desires of the carnal man. Vanity is a huge problem for women, so covering our hair in public is our way to defeat the heart's desire to exalt self. This cannot be accomplished by wearing a beautiful wig, but by wearing a scarf. Every person must battle with self if they are going to become like God. God's command is to act humble and be modest, so this is the true reason why we Jewish women cover our hair with a tichel (scarf). Study every Scripture covering the topic of vanity, lust, and self exaltation and you will grasp the idea of wearing a scarf.
Thank you. Does the wig look like what your natural hair looks like? Do you take the wig off at home? Do you ever wear your natural hair but cover it with a scarf?
Thank you for sharing My mother was raised orthodox and I was raised conservative ever since my mom passed away I kind of lost my way so seeing your videos help me feel connected thank you again
I still don't get this whole hair thing in Judaism and Islam. If the purpose of covering your hair is not to be attractive to other males, in many cases the wig is going to look BETTER than the woman's natural hair, and thus she is MORE attractive to other males.
If you watch again you’ll see the purpose has nothing to do with attraction for males. Just to cover and therefore can be covered with whatever she wants- like for example a wig
@@ThatJewishFamily Jewish men cover their hair too, just not completely. So if I understood your video right, the reasons why males cover their head is different from why females do. Right?
Muslim women cover not only their hair but dress modestly. These rules are different for each religion. It's not only a hair thing. Muslim men also have rules of covering their body and grow a beard, but it's different for a woman for obvious reasons, built differently. Why covering is important is because you see each other more objectively. In Islam it's not about a man being superior to a woman. We don't believe that. That's something the western media made people believe so. And we don't have hair covering with hair. Hope this explains it somewhat.
Hair covering predates Islam by quite a long time. In ancient times, the fallen angels found human women very attractive and our hair was one of the things that made them lust for human women. They would sin and have sexual relations with human women creating an unholy union resulting in what the Bible calls “the Nephilim”. They were the ancient giants. The Arab and other Middle Eastern men put hijabs on the women in order to make them less attractive to the fallen angels to protect them. I am not sure how the tradition started for Jewish women though.
Fascinating! Thank you for helping me understand, I am very interested in learning about different faiths. If we don’t learn how can we counteract people who hate just because other people’s beliefs differ from theirs? I’m on Earth to give and receive love. 💗
I appreciate this information because I am on the journey of being completely obedient to the instructions of G-d as it specifically relates to hair covering. I don’t want to cover my head all the time. I don’t want to wear a wig, but I want to be obedient. So, now, with this information, I have instruction on how I need to behave and why. In addition, I have an understanding that I can still be beautiful in my obedience. Thank you.
I am not Jewish (non-religious actually) but I once visited a German synagogue with a group of men and the rabbi asked us to cover our heads with a cover (kippah) as a sign of humility to God who is above us all.
quite right. when i want to look fancy, i wear a wig ..for casual, i wear a cotton beret (i have several colours) and i also wear a snood. i used to wear a bandanna and i am thinking of buying a hat called a slouchy ....the list is as long as your imagination. the bottom line: my hair is covered. ps....because of a wig, i look younger than my real age! side note...it doesn't matter if people can tell if i'm wearing a wig. i know it (and God knows it) I hope this helps.
I was born and raised in a Jewish household now my parents were raised with much more tradition they raised us much more laid back. My brothers did have Bar mitzvahs and I had my bat mitzvah. You completely miss the word of God and what it means cover your head. God never order anyone to wear a wig to cover your head with. You are doing the exact opposite of God's will and please stop twisting God's words to make your world comfortable as you wish it to be. Learn from your forefathers!
“Judaism wants you to embrace your beauty and not hide it” … and yet, I don’t think wigs existed when that law was first implemented. Kind of a dilemma, huh?
Some of these wigs are so lush and perfect you really can't tell it's a wig! GORGEOUS! Keep it up my Jewish friends you add beauty to the world around you by following that tradition.
I believe they are misinterpreting the Law (Torah). Being COVERED means women should have hair and NOT cut it down like men do. Your literal OWN hair IS the covering. It's one of the many things that make women women. Also, you could say that after the watchers mated with human women, there was a command that they cover the hair as to not attract them with their beauty. Long flowing hair being one of the attractors of these watchers. Thus covering hair with hair, would defeat the purpose of the command and a SCARF would make more sense. And God will bless you even if you had NO HAIR. He cares more about the content of your character (treating your neighbor as yourself) rather than the hair strands HE put on your head and gave you. He gave you hair.... just remember that you are his perfect design. He wouldn't dare withhold his blessings even if you decided to show your hair.😊

In the New Testament it tells us that a woman's hair is her glory and that she has power because it's long and uncut. Many Apostolic women have laid their long hair over their seriously I'll child while they prayed. It says that if a woman has short hair she might as well be shaved because she is basically dishonoring God if she's praying with her hair uncovered. I'm not explaining it very well, but Lee Stoneking has a book about it. I lost 30-40% of my hair due to cancer and complications related to it and the rest was severely damaged, snapped off if you barely touched it. I stood in front of the bathroom mirror and cried as I chopped it short, but it had to be done to save the rest and by then I was wearing a wig anyway. It wasn't flattering at all, too dark and heavy but it was the only long one the cancer support agency had at the time and since I am Apostolic Pentecostal I needed a longer one. I wore it for a while until I could buy a somewhat better one at a local beauty supply store. After about six months I switched to scarves or hats bc the wig was too hot for a Midwestern USA summer is and by then my hair was in better shape and growing back. Fast forward five years and I am cancer free plus you can't tell I ever lost so much hair; it's longer and thicker than it has been in years.
A veil or scarf is more comfortable than a wig, to be honest. A wig seems obnoxious if it isn't necessary (hair loss, cancer, thin older hair, etc), especially if it involves religion.
@@wecx2375 I understand this. But even other Jewish sects have interpreted from the Talmud that the covering be a SCARF not a wig. The wig is unique to this sect. Others simply wear a scarf.

We just have junky wig shops where I live. Lol Ok so question, I heard the reason to cover hair was because hair is sensual and it has to be covered Bc sensuality is a sin, what are your thoughts on this? And does a woman have to completely cover her hair or can she wear like a partial head covering? I wear a partial head scarf usually. I feel Gods blessing when I wear it but do you think I would be more blessed if I totally covered it. Also when you go to temple do you use a head scarf over the wig when Torah is taken out?
If it’s suppose to be a symbol, I believe that using wigs contradicts this purpose. I’m not Jewish, just a view from the outside in. Thanks for sharing the process. Very interesting!
Totally charming. Very enjoyable learning about this. Thank you for sharing. I am a fellow wig wearer due to hair loss. Wigs are a good thing in so many ways. Kate from Oregon
Where do you obtain the human hair for the wigs ? You will probably sa, ";from humsans " but what is the background to making a human hair wigs ? Is it kosher ?
The wigs are certainly beautiful. To each their own. No judgment. My own religion has rules and customs I question. However, I think most religions, pretty much all of which were founded and controlled by men, that have these "rules" that govern women's behavior to be suspect when independently questioned. Again, my own religion included. However, I like the idea of having a choice to wear a wig, if that's what you want to do. They are certainly beautiful, and it would be convenient when you don't have time to do your hair. This was very informative, and interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Yes totally agree with this. So many rules made by men to control women under the guise of honoring god or a higher power. Why have we bought in to this?
@@shternaraskin7706 Perhaps, yes, but like my own religion, our holy documents/scrolls/etc have been edited, controlled, and interpreted by men. Just to be clear, I'm not judging. I'm simply questioning.

Nice adventure. My favorite CD on you was the dark top lighter lower area. A Light weight wig is always more pleasant to wear. Q: why is the super long wig so popular? Is it just fashion or is that Kabalatoo?
The real problem everybody agrees is the very long wigs. Most teachers say that not Tznius. A very hard word to translate, basically it means "don't stare at me"
This is ridiculous. If you cover your hair for modesty, then wearing a wig completely defeats the purpose. This is exactly why Muslim women wear hijab and not wigs. Just because the hair isn’t yours, doesn’t mean you’re being modest.

Aw thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️ We create lots of longer videos but it takes a lot more time to get them out with the edits, this one was filmed seven months ago 😬
That does look like a fun experience! I will still stick with a tichel because I feel more covered and love the morning ritual of wrapping. Also you can get like 300 of them for the price of one sheitel lol. It’s good for those of us who are indecisive 😂
So it's not so much about modesty, but protection from "negative or evil" energy? I have never heard that before. I would love to learn more. Thank you for allowing us to get a peek into your traditions and beliefs.
It IS about modesty. Our hair is only for our husband because it becomes a private part of our body when we marry. We can wear a beautiful wig (sheitel) while being modest (covering our private parts). The kabbalistic elements she spoke about are WHY our hair becomes private after marriage. We are supposed to be powerful (influential) and modest. Wearing the wig allows us to do both:)
It is absolutely about modesty that's why many Jews do not wear wigs in fact most Jews of Middle Eastern and North African ancestry which are the majority in Israel as opposed to in the United States and the West do not wear wigs for this particular reason it is insufficiently modest and makes no sense
First, thank you for sharing and enlightening us. I grew up Apostolic Pentecostal and was taught to always cover our head/hair for similar reasons (spiritual reasons). The difference is we are taught to cover whether married or not and especially in the house of God. Speaks to the fact that what you are saying is not so strange and is rooted from somewhere although we cannot fully explain. Another difference is we have to wear hats or wraps rather than wigs. Personally, i am very keen on who touches my head even when i didnt necessarily practice my faith. Your head is your crown and should be guarded. Again, thank you as I was always intrigued to learn about the Jewish faith.
I was raised the same way different religion. We called them prayer coverings. Women wore their hair up. A woman's hair is her glory and we were not to cut our hair.
That is very contradictory. To cover your hair… with hair. Religion makes people do all sorts of illogical things and they will always find some excuse about ‘beauty’ and ‘love’ to rationalize it 😂
That's the reason why many Jews don't wear wigs particularly Jews of Middle Eastern and North African ancestry never wear wigs and it is forbidden for them to do so by their rabbis particularly for the reason that you mentioned it doesn't make any sense but Ashkenazi and European Jews do not often times even acknowledge the existence of their middle eastern and North African cousins they view us as being inferior and are totally ignorant of our practices and represent their practices as being the only Jewish customs and practices which they of course are not they refuse to acknowledge the fact that Judaism originates in the Middle East not Europe
Thank you SO much for sharing!! I really really enjoyed everything you have shared in this video. I look forward learning and understanding so much about your lifestyle and traditions.🥰
It doesn’t need to be obvious, just covered and everyone can choose how. Many have different customs. My community has the custom to cover with a wig rather then a scarf because wigs can be really beautiful and that’s a stress in Judaism as well, for women to feel and look beautiful

I can’t tell the difference between the wig you bought and the one you normally wear. The one with the highlights toward the bottom looked fantastic on you! I loved your explanation of why you wear a wig. It’s very meaningful. Mendel is adorable btw. He’s getting so big! Have a good week.
I love your wig, even though I didn't understand the reasoning behind the practice. Question, in the case of divorce, does the woman stop wearing her wig while she's single?
So since this is a religious practice, how and when do you wash your own hair?? I would assume that there is a regular intervals where the wig is taken off and and your own hair is washed. Is it hard to find the balance between religious practice and hygiene??
These women spend large amounts of money and seem to have so much "pride" in their wigs. This clip is the perfect example. I have never understood this idea.
I thought one’s husband IS her covering. I also don’t see the harm in a physical covering like a scarf or hat, I’m a little confused on an entire wig. Especially one made of human hair. The statement about energies reminds me of mysticism, which is against the Lord God. Thank you for sharing this part of your culture, wig shopping seems fun.
The reason we cover our hair is simply bec the commandment is for our hair to be covered. (Yes, there are also many beautiful kabbalistic explanations) but it is Not for modesty or avoiding vanity. And it doesn't matter how we cover our hair; all that matters is that it is covered. So no, wearing a wig is not a loophole. The reason why Raizel and most Chabad women take care to cover their hair with a wig is bec the Lubavitcher Rebbe preferred a wig in that it's most likely to keep all the hair covered (thereby adding more blessing to the family among other reasons) and can't/won't be easily removed, revealing the hair underneath. So many Chabad women go to great lengths to wear a wig as a head covering, rather than a headscarf. (At home/in privacy though, we can wear a headscarf).
This just sounds like a lot of excuses for men to control women. It’s like slowly taking away what makes you happy, what you love, what you want and what you need.
does she seem unhappy? she chooses to cover her hair, she chooses to wear a wig. Just because some women live lives different than yours doesn't mean they are "opressed" and need saving.
Not only are the wigs fake but they're high maintenance. Time consuming just to attract attention from people. Like I said, wigs are artificial and women wear them to draw attention to themselves.
GD didn't tell us to cover our hair. This mitzvah is deduced from the Sota. It was a humiliation for the woman who was suspected of infidelity (and who denied it) to uncover her head before drinking the bitter waters that would determine whether she was innocent (and would be blessed with more children) or would die. This is the source for knowing that married women must cover our hair.
It’s not so simple. In the times of the Talmud, all women covered their hair. Married or single, Jewish or non Jewish. Thus it’s as she said a chook. A mitzvah we don’t completely understand.
I don’t mean to offend anyone and I’m not judging Chas vShalom- just want to say to women reading this that wigs of todays society are 100% forbidden. They are not modest, and they are considered idolatry. No gadol hador ever permitted them! Look in to it please, for your own sakes. Rav Yuval Ovadia did a very interesting documentary/ video on wigs on his CZcams channel Spiritual Visuals. Please please look it up it is worth watching 🙏

Love your stories. So do you have your own hair under your wig or is your hair shaved off? Do you keep the wig on when you are home? When you are sleeping or bathing? Just curious. Thanks!
As I Christian lady I believe as Paul taught in 1 Corthinthians 11 he said our hair is given to us as a covering. I do not cut my hair at all. I don't understand cutting off our hair , then just to put more hair on .
You really ought have your hair trimmed every so often to keep the ends from splitting and frizzing. Not cut it short, just keep it trimmed and shaped.
I agree; from what I understand Paul says to cover your HEAD If not a woman should have her HAIR cut short. From my understanding a women's hair is her covering because it covers her HEAD. Did God cover Eve's hair after the the fall when He covered her body?
For clarification the law is not to wear a wig, but that the hair be covered 😊 So everyone has their custom how! It could be a wig, a scarf, or a bag if someone wishes 😉
I am trying to picture the bag. 😂
I wear scarf or hat but don't know if that is sufficient. I would like to wear a wig.
@STIGMATA Στίγματα Linda Glendenning exactly that comment shows she isn’t hjwwish

A bag maybe it looks better than the wig you are wearing! That ain’t modest wearing a wig that looks better than your natural hair lol
The point of covering the hair is to avoid vanity. Wearing wigs as a “ head covering” is all about vanity. This wig tradition skirts the spirit of the law.
No, it is not about "avoiding vanity". It is about privacy, symbolism of marriage, and "modesty".
I have to agree with u. It seems counterintuitive to the beliefs that I know of to be the reason for covering hair according to Abrahamic religions, I'm wondering if the " woman's energy kabbalah thing is an accurate depiction of the teaching or if this truly is what orthodox Jews believe.
It is ridiculous
@@isabrookbanks4118 then it makes even less sense!!
The Egyptians wore wigs , even Sumerians and Jewish people are connected to Sumeria so i hope you understand.
That is what I have heard too. I am an Arab (Christian though) and that is how the hijab started for us too.
I completely agree with you I think nobody should sacrifice themselves for someone else
But it’s more complicated than what me and you think 💭
I love the Jewish culture
@Rivkah exactly. I am very surprised that this side is often ignored.
So you need to wear a hijab not a wig because the wig makes no difference 😂
exactly
Samething I was thinking .
Wigs can be a symbol of dedication to Hashem and your spouse, to show respect to your marriage and body, and for "modesty" in the sense you do not understand. Not everything needs to be seen through your narrow lense of what modesty, beauty, femininity and sexuality is.
God: Don't show your hair
Woman: puts on a wig
God: right
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
G-d didn't say that you should wear a wig, just that you should over your hair. For thousands of years Jewish women wore a scarf to cover their hair, it is only in the last few centuries that Jewish women began to wear wigs.
Your right!!
Yes, everyone can cover how they wish 😊
@@ThatJewishFamily Well, it really depends on the Rabbi that you follow. I personally have yet to find a Gadol that would permit such lace tops.

Why not use a synthetic hair wig ?
@@GrayWithMe maybe its not kocher?

There is no "THE TRUTH" when talking about spirituality
If you don't believe in it's your problem.
You should ask that question, from the Christians they copied this "tradition". Covering the head of women, has ZERO connection to Judaism

Ok, I was hoping for a scripture reference or something concrete, but basically she’s saying that she doesn’t know why they wear wigs.
I didn't hear her saying why they wear wigs....human hair wigs doesn't sound religious to me for a religious person as her....🤮
exactly!
I think you look beautiful with dark hair. Your video popped up and I'm so glad it did! I learned so much. Thank you.

@@lisabaltzer4190 Thanks for this info. In today's modern times, I still see requiring a head covering as subjugation of women.

“Judaism wants you to embrace your beauty and not hide it” … and yet, I don’t think wigs existed when that law was first implemented. Kind of a dilemma, huh?
But is it only for their husband if they shave it?
You and your family are blessed beyond measure!
Thank you for the explanation. So do you cut your natural hair off to wear wigs?

The commandment isn't in the written Torah but the Oral Torah (Talmud)
@@wecx2375 I understand this. But even other Jewish sects have interpreted from the Talmud that the covering be a SCARF not a wig. The wig is unique to this sect. Others simply wear a scarf.
Thank you for sharing this & teaching the people who have no clue about our culture, tradition & lifestyle. I think you are absolutely gorgeous. You would be gorgeous even with no hair😊 And the dark color suits you perfectly. May Hashem bless you & your family ❤
Wow. I found this so delightful. I loved your explanation. Absolutely beautiful, just like you and your sister.
Thank you for sharing this with us! I love the wig you chose! I’ve often thought about a wig. But been so brave as to only wear extensions. I think your purpose for wearing a wig is so noble and shows such a deep respect for your faith and God.
So do you mean that the negative spirit’s doesn’t feed of your hair if you cover it? And what would happen if you only covered your hair with a hat for example? (If some of you hair was showing)
I am not of your faith, but found this video so very interesting. You are beautiful and your explanations are beautiful. I just enjoyed the experience. Continued blessings to you and your family.
I did love the wig you chose, but loved the balayage as well!
Yeah, women’s hair is one of the top things men want to regulate. As if that's anything important compared to all the bullshit going on in the world.
Yes totally agree with this. So many rules made by men to control women under the guise of honoring god or a higher power. Why have we bought in to this?
Yes finally
The Torah commandments were created by G-d - not man.
@@shternaraskin7706 Perhaps, yes, but like my own religion, our holy documents/scrolls/etc have been edited, controlled, and interpreted by men. Just to be clear, I'm not judging. I'm simply questioning.
Very beautiful wigs. Looks great on you. Thank you for explaining. Love learning about other cultures and ways of life.
I’m so jealous, my hair is a mess in the morning but your wig allows you to have perfect hair every day 🤷♀️
Thank you for sharing. I love to learn about cultures I don't know about.
I am a shia Muslim.. it found amazing great.. I was always wondering how jews are not covering hair when they are following of Propher Moses (pbuh). I love it. This channel is amazing. Thanks
I never knew Orthodox Jewish women wear wigs. Thank you so much for sharing your faith and love for your family with us. I offer you nothing but respect for your culture.
Nice adventure. My favorite CD on you was the dark top lighter lower area. A Light weight wig is always more pleasant to wear. Q: why is the super long wig so popular? Is it just fashion or is that Kabalatoo?
Wow the wigs are so beautiful and good quality ❤
The real problem everybody agrees is the very long wigs. Most teachers say that not Tznius. A very hard word to translate, basically it means "don't stare at me"
Its not tznuit according to my rabbi.
This is ridiculous. If you cover your hair for modesty, then wearing a wig completely defeats the purpose. This is exactly why Muslim women wear hijab and not wigs. Just because the hair isn’t yours, doesn’t mean you’re being modest.
Did you watch the video? It isn't about modesty.
It's a mystery, like frogs in the clouds.
Honestly, don't comment on the video without watching the video before you come in because you come off sounding ignorant. The wigs are for Mitzvah.
Can you pick any colour? For instance, could you go for blue or pink?
You gave a very interesting explanation of the belief. Enjoyed the video.
Thank you for sharing this video with us! Raisal, you are such an intelligent woman, I wish you would make morevideos instead of mostly shorts! Danny, should allow youore screentime as you bring your keen insights and well- thought out explanations to us!
Your new wig looks beautiful, though I love the balayage one too☺️
Aw thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️
We create lots of longer videos but it takes a lot more time to get them out with the edits, this one was filmed seven months ago 😬
That does look like a fun experience! I will still stick with a tichel because I feel more covered and love the morning ritual of wrapping. Also you can get like 300 of them for the price of one sheitel lol. It’s good for those of us who are indecisive 😂
Thank you for the explanation. I have always wondered.
Do you wear your own hair short, so the wig fits better?
So it's not so much about modesty, but protection from "negative or evil" energy? I have never heard that before. I would love to learn more. Thank you for allowing us to get a peek into your traditions and beliefs.
It IS about modesty. Our hair is only for our husband because it becomes a private part of our body when we marry. We can wear a beautiful wig (sheitel) while being modest (covering our private parts). The kabbalistic elements she spoke about are WHY our hair becomes private after marriage. We are supposed to be powerful (influential) and modest. Wearing the wig allows us to do both:)
@@TruthintheMidwest i think this is beautiful 🥰
It is absolutely about modesty that's why many Jews do not wear wigs in fact most Jews of Middle Eastern and North African ancestry which are the majority in Israel as opposed to in the United States and the West do not wear wigs for this particular reason it is insufficiently modest and makes no sense
@@TruthintheMidwest Yes! I also like to add that it can be a symbol of dedication to Hashem and your spouce as well.
The wigs come from India, from a temple ,where women sacrifice there hair to God's. There hair is then sold to the west. Look it up. Rap your hair.
That first very dark wig suits you wonderfully!
Please explain what you do with your own hair? Do you cut it off, keep it in a bun hidden under the wig? I do not understand.
you would keep it in a bun under your hair -- the same process as if you did it for fashion purposes
That is very contradictory. To cover your hair… with hair. Religion makes people do all sorts of illogical things and they will always find some excuse about ‘beauty’ and ‘love’ to rationalize it 😂
Exactly it makes no sense at all
That's the reason why many Jews don't wear wigs particularly Jews of Middle Eastern and North African ancestry never wear wigs and it is forbidden for them to do so by their rabbis particularly for the reason that you mentioned it doesn't make any sense but Ashkenazi and European Jews do not often times even acknowledge the existence of their middle eastern and North African cousins they view us as being inferior and are totally ignorant of our practices and represent their practices as being the only Jewish customs and practices which they of course are not they refuse to acknowledge the fact that Judaism originates in the Middle East not Europe
I am wrestling with the logic behind this as well.
@@eaglewings497 because there's no logic in it.
I tend to be very open and understanding but I have to admit this I'm struggling with.
Thank you SO much for sharing!! I really really enjoyed everything you have shared in this video. I look forward learning and understanding so much about your lifestyle and traditions.🥰
Thank you so much ❤️❤️
7:26 the balayage looks beautiful in you, Raziel.
I hope you buy that one. ❤
I'd be interested to know if you keep your own hair short or long.
I feel a wig is just a loophole to not have to wear a scarf or other more obvious head coverings.
It doesn’t need to be obvious, just covered and everyone can choose how. Many have different customs. My community has the custom to cover with a wig rather then a scarf because wigs can be really beautiful and that’s a stress in Judaism as well, for women to feel and look beautiful
@@ThatJewishFamily the jewish role for women is not just to be beautiful but to pray and give and be connected and to give and share I don’t think she was born jewish
@@datingandlifeadvicechannel7534 how rude to say! it is important for women to feel happy and confident. i don't see why beauty and holiness cannot exist at the same time? a woman ccan pray and give and be connected and also wear a wig.
I learn something new today! Thank you for sharing this about your culture and religion!
I am not familiar with wigs. May I ask if you must keep your hair short in order for it to fit well? Thank you,
you can do as you like with your own hair. some keep it short, some grow it long and some colour their own hair. I hope this helps.
@@shevalazaros4427 Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am just curious as to how a wig fits nicely over long hair. Ex. if your natural hair is as long as the wigs you were trying on, would it even fit under a wig?
Will it b more comfy nd appropriate to cover wit a cloth instead of a hair wit a hair 😊..nice one 👍
Wear fake hair so people don’t see your real hair, but most people won’t know it’s fake hair…does this make sense? I understand modernizing religious rules, but at what point does it just seem to defeat the purpose.
I loved seeing all those wigs, I wear wigs due to alopecia although I can’t afford Remy hair I use synthetic fibre, your wig looked so lovely I couldn’t tell that it was a wig, absolutely beautiful and it suited you so well
I'm no long religious but I remember wearing a veil and covering my head in church as a young girl, so I think a woman covering her head goes back to the abrahamic roots of Islam, Jewish, and Christian faiths.
I liked the one with a bit of light in it. Gave you dimension
I can’t tell the difference between the wig you bought and the one you normally wear. The one with the highlights toward the bottom looked fantastic on you! I loved your explanation of why you wear a wig. It’s very meaningful. Mendel is adorable btw. He’s getting so big! Have a good week.
Aw thank you! Maybe next time! Wigs are a little pricey to buy two at once 😉
Thank G-d! Thank you! He really is getting so big!
I rarely see jewish speaking about G-d with the passion that you and your husband do. It fills my heart with so much joy 😊
I love your wig, even though I didn't understand the reasoning behind the practice. Question, in the case of divorce, does the woman stop wearing her wig while she's single?
I absolutely love learning about other people! Thank you so much for sharing! 😊 And the wig is gorgeous!
Justifying wearing someone else’s hair seems to take a lot of mental gymnastics.
Thank you for sharing and explaining this portion of your faith.
Thank you for sharing this part of your culture, wig shopping seems fun.
agreed, there are also several schools of thought about taking on a curse by wearing the hair of another...
YUP
does she seem unhappy? she chooses to cover her hair, she chooses to wear a wig. Just because some women live lives different than yours doesn't mean they are "opressed" and need saving.
I love my kosher lace fronts.Isnt it almost like replacing a talit?Where in the Torah can I find this?
Love your hair!!! This is so interesting. Thank you for informing us…. ❤️
Thank you ❤️
Not only are the wigs fake but they're high maintenance. Time consuming just to attract attention from people. Like I said, wigs are artificial and women wear them to draw attention to themselves.
are you an orthodox jew?
@@isabrookbanks4118 gatekeeping
How much does it cost on average? with coloring and personalisation? virgin ones, brown?
It depends on the color/length/style (straight, wavy). This company actually has a website you can check it out on- Milanowigs.com
Thank you for helping me understand!
This actually sounds more realistic.
Exactly! A lot of their commandments come from men, not God.

What if there's strong wind? Will the wig come off?
Love your stories. So do you have your own hair under your wig or is your hair shaved off?
Do you keep the wig on when you are home? When you are sleeping or bathing? Just curious. Thanks!
As I Christian lady I believe as Paul taught in 1 Corthinthians 11 he said our hair is given to us as a covering. I do not cut my hair at all. I don't understand cutting off our hair , then just to put more hair on .
You really ought have your hair trimmed every so often to keep the ends from splitting and frizzing. Not cut it short, just keep it trimmed and shaped.
Jews don't read the new testament, so they don't care what Paul says.
I agree; from what I understand Paul says to cover your HEAD If not a woman should have her HAIR cut short. From my understanding a women's hair is her covering because it covers her HEAD. Did God cover Eve's hair after the the fall when He covered her body?
