End of an era for sure. Disgusting ownership caused the demise of the coyotes. Hockey belongs in the desert, just give them the right owner
Bingo!
And an arena. Good lord. More arena politics from a single sports franchise than a presidential campaign trail.
@@samuelfrick3475 The Tempe plan was going to work and would have done a lot for the area, with basically no taxpayer involvement. It's a real shame the Meruelo group were so nonchalant and allowed it not to get passed.
@@Wayf4rerI think it's a good thing it didn't pass, because that owner needed to be removed from the helm. Besides which, I highly doubt he would ever get it to pass anyway with his terrible credit rating for not paying people's bills. This is a great opportunity for the reboot they deserved.
I also like that they plan to return with a new expansion franchise. Thankfully, likely not under the same owner because he'll never be able to reach the conditions to get it.
🎶 Go on, take the money & run Hoo-Hoo-Hoo 🐺 🏃♂️ 🎶
The Coyotes first win was 5-2, the Coyotes last win was 5-2, poetic
Coincidence? I think NOT!
Proof the NHL is rigged by Bettman
@@kingmo8789 then what was it?
Im sure itll change but the current wikipedia page for Alex Meruelo has this interesting sentence in it.
"In April 2024, Meruelo lost the Coyotes franchise due to sheer incompetency, sending the team to Salt Lake City."
We in Az have said, "Coyotes against the world." We didn't lose the battle, the battle was taken from us.
They may have loss the battle, but the war is not over.
Even Bettman mans up and accepts his boos.
He thrives with those boos you kidding me. He's the WWE BAD GUY MANAGEMENT
By this point Bettman embraces the fact that he's a heel.
Hate the man all you want, his ego isn't fragile
@@danmac9336He's seen what makes us cheer😂
Much akin to Goodell - who knows he's kind of a heel
Bettman takes so many licks and honestly in all of this he has been the only believer in the Coyotes and the fans should be praising him. I for one am thankful he stuck with us as long as he did, and I don't believe he has actually given up on Phoenix. We have gone from no real youth hockey program when the Yotes arrived, to a thriving development community and programs with 13+ sheets of ice in the valley. My son plays because of the Coyotes, so I will always be a supporter of hockey in AZ. Also, a shout out to Tucson who deserves to keep the Roadrunners as they have supported their team and don't deserve to lose them just because AM sold off his NHL franchise and wants to keep hockey in the Phoenix valley.
Disgusting move by who ever tried throwing out Shane Doans retirement banner in dumpster (ownership)
For real. That was some Harold Ballard bs right there.
It was when they left gila river arena
Pardon?
@dnasty312 they threw out the DOAN #19 retired banner. Some diehard fan garbage picked it and gave it to Doan last night.
So, the arena had it, contacted the Yotes, no one from the team ever went back to the stadium to get it, so they threw it away. The organization didn't necessarily throw it away, but they may as well have done it themselves.
Man I not a coyotes fan but that hurt to watch a team leave fans deserve better sucks to end it that way.
Exactly my sentiments. What a classy and emotional farewell. Thank you for having been
I lived what Coyote fans are going through. Winnipeg Jets 1.0.
I went to the game in Tampa. The feeling in that building was "electric." Pun intended. The standing ovation for Kuch after he got the 100th assist, gave me goosebumps.
As much as the Coyotes have been a mess organization wise, stick tap to the Yotes fans for sticking with the team.
A Coyotes Discord server I'm in did a big watch party for tonight's game, and man it was a wild ride. Don't think any of us would be ashamed to admit a lot of emotions and tears were shed tonight ... it's hard to believe that's truly it for the Arizona Coyotes, but once it set in I just couldn't stop being emotional. What a final game from this special team I've had the honor of watching over the past few seasons. As much as I hope hockey returns to Arizona in the future, it still won't be this team.
also, Lawson Crouse, the longest tenured Coyote on that roster, scoring in that final game ... man you couldn't have written a better story
Oettinger getting a save of the year cantidate while not even trying has to be one of the best moments of the year
If he plays that well in the playoffs (and has some of that luck) you guys will do well.
The low-effort miracle
One of the most nonchalant saves of the year ever 😂😂
I’m a VGK fan, but I couldn’t help but go Awooooooooo for the Yotes tonight. We too represent hockey in the desert, and it feels like we lost a brother tonight. I hope the team’s move to SLC ends up being a success, but at the same time, I really hope Arizona gets the Yotes back someday, but certainly NOT under Alex Meruelo.
Man I am so sad I can't sleep. Ty Shannon for all you do for hockey and us fans. Looking forward to the playoffs.
Thank you for showing your genuine feelings about the whole thing with the owner. It really is cathartic for us Yotes fans to see someone like yourself sharing our grievances, and I hope more high profile people speak up. Meruelo is a coward and an idiot.
As a Yotes fan, I'm glad Meruelo wasn't at the game. He doesn't deserve the Coyotes. I hope he was sitting in his empty landfill with all the money he didn't spend on the Tempe campaign. I hope Alex and Xavier never get to sniff another professional sports franchise ever again. Terrible people, but you can say that about every billionaire.
I know fans weren’t happy. Saw a video of the chants criticizing him
Meruelo was probably too scared of the embarrassment, he knew the fans were gonna give it to him. I wish there were some “eff Meruelo” chants at the game…
I hope Meruelo loses that auction so that he’s forced to sell all of the rights to far better individual than his money will ever be worth.
That scumbag is a corrupt coward
Wait, before you axe Meruelo ... who shot down their plans in Tempe? I believe that the people of Tempe did it, not the owner of the Coyotes. To me a clear signal that the people didn't wanted the Coyotes. Same goes with their last plan, who screwed them over ... right, the major of Scottsdale. It's easy to blame the owner ... while you don't mention the other side of things. Maybe that's the reason why he didn't show up and let the team move to Salt Lake City. Not feeling welcome and a clear sign that Phoenix and surroundings don't want the Coyotes there. And frankly, I would do the same if I am starting to feel that I am not welcome in a place.
@@dorientjewoller113 An extremely small amount of very specific Tempe residents were allowed to vote on the deal. The Yotes never had a chance, their true fans weren’t even allowed to vote on it. Please do your research
Goodbye and farewell Coyotes. Coming from a Knights fan. Happy that the Coyotes went out with a win in their final game
Fare thee well, NHL...I will figure out my fandom eventually...I love the game of hockey, but it truly made me cry losing this team.
AWOOOOOOOO!! Good bye yotes 💔PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!
Teams never leave because of the fanbase. It's always ownership.
The work the Coyotes did in Arizona to grow the game in the desert is what gets my respect for. This team and its players did all they could to give back to a community and it shows in dramatic ways. This has always been an honest hard working team that fought for its city, but they were owned by some of the worst scum the league has ever seen! Hockey belongs in the desert.
Also give credit to Bill Armstrong their GM who’s done a marvelous job trying to rebuild this team from mere scraps. For his sake and the rest of the players, I hope they succeed in Salt Lake City, cause they deserve it.
the problem has always been the ownership and the local governments, look at all the owners this team has had they all failed even the nhl who owned it for a few years
Thank you for a great 4 or 5 years Shannon. I have watched 90+% of your videos over that time. I also want to thank Keith tkachuk, Jeremy roenick, teppo numminen, Shane Doan and the bulin wall for creating a hockey fan in 1997 in Yuma, AZ. I want to thank Shane Doan, Damon langkow, Darin quint and ladislav nagy for being great people when I met them at signings. And I want to wish all past and present coyotes all the best for themselves and their loved ones. I especially want to thank pavel datsuk, Chris pronger, Shea Weber and all those who have helped along the way. It was a fun almost 30 years following the yotes through the good and the bad, but I can no longer watch the NHL after taking away my team. (If they allow us to trade for all our players back in expansion Maybe.) Good luck to all the former coyotes in the playoffs.
I can't think a Coyotes fan wanted Alex Meruelo anywhere near that arena. Kinda shocked there were no Alex Meruelo burnings in effigy
As an Oiler's fan, I was glad we lost this one. Not something I ever thought I'd feel and meaningless but I was glad they got the final win for the fans. Watching that post game salute was hard, truly hope Arizona is able to resurrect hockey in the desert and come back soon with ownership that cares
Yep, let's sh!t the bed over the last week of the season. Let's let those bad habits set in so Vegas or LA can take us out in 5.
@@LARGO125lol. Chill dude
They've left the fans in two cities crying: Winnipeg & Phoenix. Will Salt Lake City have a happy ending? Don't fail to tune in to the next episode of "How The Franchise Turns" to see if the love that failed in the desert succeeds in the mountains.
Thank you so much for your coverage on the coyotes over the years! Me and my wife would sit and watch previews, reviews and news updates of yours! I just wanted to thank you for everything! We were blessed with hockey down here and it was an amazing sport to watch! I really appreciate you keeping me and my wife updated but also for teaching her hockey. It was really the only sport she liked. I don’t think my words will ever be enough for my gratefulness for your videos as well as our hockey team! Thank you for always sticking up for us and telling everyone how it was. Being a coyote fan was hard but I was so thankful for the franchise. They were my first sporting event, my first word, and had my favorite athlete of all time Shane Doan! We truly loved the coyotes and we hope someday they come back but above all we are grateful to have had the coyotes as long as we have! Thank THG looking forward to coyote content in the future when you go back in time about old yotes players 💔🙏🏻
Not a Coyotes fan, but sad to see them go. Coyotes fans deserved to see a great team, hopefully they still do one day, but the sting of this will never leave completely.
Random fun fact:
The first game of the regular season for Dallas was a 2-1 shootout win at home against the Blues.
The final game of the regular season for Dallas was a 2-1 shootout win at home against the Blues.
I got up at 3:50 am to watch the yotes game.
And i am heartbroken. Same goes for our discord and hfboard.
But the staff and the players were class acts. staying so long and showing the fans that they care.
They played great and gave it all and they showed the fans who supported them that they love them.
Its so sad that they are leaving. Love the players and staff and wish them all the best.
For one last time: Awoooooo.
Unfortunately, it's not an uncommon thing for owners of leaving teams to not show up at the end. Clay Bennett didn't show up for the Sonics last game.
Right. And I’m SURE Stan Kroenke wasn’t at the last game for the St Louis Rams. 😡
Oh, don’t you remember? In the first couple of rounds, the central time zone is basically west coast, to the schedulers. Dallas will definitely get 8:30 which really means 9 pm local starts. The only hope is for them to get some weekend starts at home, because sometimes they will just have the east start earlier
Some East coasters were bent out of shape over an 8 pm start for a playoff game. Cry me a river, guys. 8 pm is child's play compared to the scheduling shenanigans the West has to deal with in the playoffs.
What an outstanding job from the broadcast crew! I watched the whole thing from start to finish, and it was pure and heartfelt. I'll always remember the Coyotes and that last game. That broadcast crew I'm telling you is some of the best to do it!
Sad Yotes fan, great final broadcast.
Meruelo had about 1 billion other places to be this evening. He's a very busy man.
Emphasis on 1 billion lol
At the end of the Islanders/Penguins game the Islanders players all shook Carters’ hand and they made him the 1 star. Awesome moment.
Very classy for Jeff Carter…nice career
Even though I’m an Avs fan today, many moons ago, I was a North Stars fan who grew up in MN. It was painful when they were shipped out to Dallas and everyone wanted Norm Green’s head on a platter. I can certainly relate to how the fans in AZ are feeling right now.
I hope Arizona gets their team back with different ownership.
I cheered for the original Winnipeg Jets, continued to cheer for them as first the Phoenix and then the Arizona Coyotes. When the Atlanta Thrashers became the second Winnipeg Jets, I had two teams to cheer for. And somehow... it does not make this any less gut retching.
Shannon I want you to know that you are single handedly responsible for me being able to continue following hockey after the horrible taste in my mouth the Coyotes relocation (mostly on Alex Muerello’s part)
These past few weeks have legitimately been almost as hard for me as the passing of my father. When they were evicted from Glendale I saw the writing was on the wall, and promised myself I would stop following hockey altogether if they relocated.
Well I’m a hockey fan as much as I am a Coyotes fan, and I’m an even bigger Hockey Guy fan.
Thank you for all the hard work, I’m really pulling for Boston, Vancouver, and Dallas in the playoffs this year!
(And Winnipeg for you too Yvonne!)
As a Utahn, I’m ecstatic to see the NHL come here. But I also feel sad for Yotes fans to see their franchise come to an end
Still wearing my yotes jersey even though I’m a diehard Avs fan
The irony of Mathews getting 12 shots but it’s Ryan Reaves who scores
I'm surprised you didn't mention the save Otter made on Thomas in the overtime. Then Otter laughing when he sees the replay on the jumbotron lol
I hope for Ishkakov this is it and he's on the team, he looked really good and I hope he doesn't go back to Russia!
Same!
Yeah I don’t know about that. This game looked a bit like an exhibition game. Iskhakov looked fine but I don’t think I would be putting him against the Canes.
I vote for the Utah Yotes. Or that Utah Roadrunners, the natural enemy of the Coyote :p
I get the feeling that you made a Warner Bros. reference there. BEEP-BEEP!
The desert deserves better, what a team and fans.
Why do I think Meruelo will hold the trademarks and branging hostage, even if he doesn't bring a team back to Az? He knows the value of the Nordiques and Whalers trademarks, firsthand
He’s taking those trademarks and the 1 billion the nhl gave him to the bank. Guarantee he does nothing during the five year period
He might try, but from what I've heard he's got 5 years to build the arena, and if he doesn't, he loses the rights.
I hope that is stipulated somewhere. A billionaire who cheaped out at every turn and who screwed loyal fans and employees in the process doesn't deserve a 2nd payday to retrieve those rights in the future@@AngieBee-uz1tw
The NHL has been fucking us over with the 8:50 pm local starts for nearly a decade now. Especially in the playoffs. Every weekday home game in the first round will be an 8:50pm local start. It's total bullshit.
I’m choking up:(
I’m so sorry yotes fans, you guys deserved so much better. I really hope you continue to follow the sport, you guys were and are some of the most fun to talk to.
I loved our rivalry with the yotes. Always wanted the best for them because it always makes it better. And now they got better just for it to be ripped away. It’s so fucking unfair. I’m sorry yotes
With love, kings
Thank you for your sympathetic coverage of the Coyotes over the years. We always wanted it to work and were beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel with these great young guys on the team and all those who are on their way. I am fortunate enough to have recently moved to another Central Division city, so I will still get to see and support the guys I've been a fan of for years, even if it may be hard to root for SLC.
I got up at 3:50 am to watch the yotes game.
It was a good game. And the staff down from BA were class acts.
Giving everything during the game and afterwards staying to say goodbye to the fans was just great to see.
Same goes for all the fans in attendance were all great. And gave the team all the energy they needed to win.
That was great to see. And brought tears to us watching and commenting on hfboards and in our discord channel.
Lots of us are heartbroken and will need time to see what is ahead of us.
It was really hard to see them down there and see that they too are feeling sad for leaving. This was very hard and will be hard for us fans.
I for one will not follow this team in SCL. I will no longer watch NHL games. The NHL is dead to me.
But i wish the players all the best. Those guys are just great and i wish them all the best.
Go yotes go
And one last sad Awoooo.
Man fuck Meruelo
I do hope that AZ fans flock to ASU for the time being. As a fan in Wisconsin without a team but being a cult fan of the Wisconsin Badgers it can bring the same energy as a pro-team. Turn the Sun Devils into the premier hockey team in AZ and back them as they try and make the NCAA tournament and go for a title.
But again: fuck Yotes ownership, you guys deserved so much better ❤
Kuch better win the heart!
i didnt realize how special it was at the time, but i was at the Rangers home opener this year against the coyotes. i’m happy to have been able to watch this team in person at least once. they deserved better.
Sorta surprised you didn't mention that ridiculous save by Otter just reaching out his stick after being clearly beat with wide open net on Thomas's overtime shot. That was unreal. Thomas just laughing, shaking his head. It was a fun game to watch.
Love your jersey. Coyote fan and I always appreciated your coverage of my team. Thank you
Sad the fans in attendance were blaming salt lake, it’s not their fault. It’s Meruelo and we will never forget
Alex Meruelo is a straight coward for not being there tonight. I hope the Yotes get their team back with new, competent ownership. Yotes fans deserve better than this.
Rest in peace Yotes, you will be missed. That farewell thing they did at the end of the broadcast really hit me in the feels
Watching the Coyotes broadcast alongside the Stars one was rough, but I'm glad we got both happy endings...
The closing of the Coyotes broadcast with Todd Walsh's monologue... I shed a tear.
From an Oilers fan, I'm glad they won. They deserved to go out with a bang, but they earned it through their play, too. I hope hockey comes back to Arizona soon. Hopefully with someone a lot better at the helm! You all deserve it.
I love your show's alot of fun
LOVE the "Forky" pen!!!
Agreed about the coyote owner
Cried watching the Yotes broadcast. Gonna miss them
Kucherov scored his 100th assist becoming the 5th NHL player ever to do so and the 1st winger to accomplish the feat and it was an afterthought to your disappointment that Matthews did not get his 70th. Kind of a weird dismissal of Kucherov.
I will miss the Yotes. They have a wonderful jersey and logo, and you could feel the emotion from everyone. Hope they return some day.
10:19 as a local, I 100% agree
One Last Howl 🫡
As someone from Atlanta, I've been there with the relocation. It's heartbreaking. Fans lose their favorite team and employees lose their jobs. I hate seeing fans of other teams making fun of the Yotes and their fans.
Arizona deserves better than Meruelo. If he's supposedly trying to bring hockey back with expansion, he's shown just how much he truly cares about Arizona and their fans with his lack of attendance at tonight's game. The league should never let him back in and Arizona should get a proper chance with better ownership and a stable building.
Also the local broadcast for the Yotes game tonight was just heartbreaking. I'm not a Yotes fan by any means, but hearing the commentators who've been associated with the team since they first came to Arizona have to say their goodbyes just broke my heart. Relocation sucks.
Hell of a career for Carter.
There was the same Referee in both games with crossbar counted as a goal (CHI at VGK and EDM at ARI), but calls on the ice were made by different Referees. The same Referee was #29 Carter Sandlak. Call on the ice in CHI at VGK was made by #24 Graham Skilliter. Call on the ice in EDM at ARI was made by #34 Brandon Schrader.
No one saw CEO Gutierrez either. The game was great and watching from the Coyotes attack twice end was awesome!
Who would Vegas prefer to get? Dallas or Edmonton?
I went to the home finale in Chicago Sunday and wore my Yotes jersey I got at a Thrashers game in 2003. I even had a RIP Coyotes sign and had some people acknowledge me lol. I'll miss the Desert Dawgs.
Thg spitting facts.
I'm not a Coyotes fan, but am a hockey fan, and so I made sure to watch that last game. Brutal listening to the crew reminiscing, and then joking about unemployment.
That owner better bring one heck of a building to the table with a lot of fan service, giveaways and really positive behavior. His son probably shouldn't be allowed near the social media stuff anymore. And after hearing about the Doan banner, that better be put up on night one.
thank you for a good regular season, hockey guy. we'll see you in the playoffs!!! go bolts!⚡️⚡️⚡️
Very classy by the Islanders to line up and personally shake Jeff Carters hand at the end of the game. Just goes to show that, no matter how hard the battles are over the years, hockey is ultimately about respect.
Hockey belongs in the desert
Hey Shannon, can you explain to me why people are upset that media and fans are saying Matthews failed to hit 70 goals please? It’s a fact. Is it because they think that failing at a personal goal makes you a failure as a whole? You always have such a grounded opinion so I’d love to hear it.
At least they got to finish the game. First time in my sports watching life I remember a team moving was when the Washington Senators moved to Texas and the last game in Washington they had a riot and had to forfeit the game to the Yankees. Also going back in memory, though not as far, I remember the Islanders trying to get Bossy his 70th goal, on two occasions, but he never got it. Not even the year he scored 50-in-50. He ended up with 69 and 68. But one of those years the Islanders did win a Stanley Cup, so that was some consolation.
Carter Sandlak #29 reffed Vegas and the Oilers, correct.
Kucherov is the MVP of the NHL and no one can change my mind
As a wild fan, I can feel the coyotes pain when your team relocates, much respect to the team and hope you guys get another team in Arizona soon
Last ever Arizona Coyotes review (for now). Crazy that it’s actually happening
Might be the first time I’ve used the time stamps, cause nothing else really mattered (to me) today. Goodbye Yotes.
I just got done watching the Coyotes postgame show after watching the game.
Say what you want about ownership and the team’s lackluster success, my heart breaks for the Arizona Coyotes community, the fans, the players, the youth hockey players, the staff, the broadcasters, and everyone that associated the Yotes with pride.
I thought Todd Walsh put an incredibly touching bow to a sad ending of the 28-year run of the Arizona Coyotes.
I’m going to miss watching these games, especially with that broadcast crew and with these players representing the team.
Arizona fans, I feel your pain 💔
To yotes fans I'm sorry to see you go through this. I'm st Louis guy and we lost 2 football teams. And it sucked both times. Hope the wait for a team very short
That Coyotes game was hard to watch. Just such a heartbreaking game to watch. I'm happy that team won, and I'm really happy the fans in Arizona got something the fans in Atlanta did not: The chance to say goodbye.
I feel for the fans of AZ. as a Yankee and Ranger fan from NYC, the thought of losing a franchise horrifies me. So messed up, I hope it works out in the end, fans don't deserve that type of treatment.
Made an effort to watch the last Coyotes game. Announcers you could tell were emotional and it felt different. On the eve of the playoffs it really contrasts with some teams about to start the 2nd season, some teams going on summer vacation, but this one is not doing either…
OH WE BACK
Yotes weren’t the only ones saying goodbye tonight, Jeff Carter retired tonight as well.
Sean Durzi is now a trivia question
I'd say the Blues do need to make white a few changes. The goaltending was the only reason we were not bottom 5 to 10 in the league. They will need to move one of the big contract defenseman as well as possibly a veteran forward. Changes need go happen. The team does not have a Stanley cup winning defense.
14:54 That jersey is as old as me 💀
That save in OT from Otter was one of the most disgusting saves ive ever seen. Dude did it by accident lol
I started cheering for the Yotes as a second team a couple of years ago because I was convinced they were going to be moved to Houston (I love the Stars, part of my soul will always rebel against cheering for a Dallas team). Ignoring the fact that they didn't go where I wanted, this feels sad, and I think I'd feel the same if they'd gone where I wanted them to go. People say the fans didn't deserve the Yotes, but that's cap. The Arizonans who bought in are among the best hockey fans on the planet. There just weren't enough of them.
Interesting fact about this Pens team - they have 4 players who scored the game winning goal in the Stanley Cup final. Carter, Letang, Eller and Smith all for different teams.
Can't believe I'm saying as a jets fan this but I'm kind of glad dallas won. Now hopefully VAN won't have anything to play for tomorrow cause I want the jets to tie their franchise record by winning their 8th straight. Also, very glad the yotes won their last game.
Both teams would do well to rest some players.
@@the6ig6adwolf would definitely make sense
The Canucks are gonna play Demko because they want to give him some reps after his injury that last until he started again two days ago. Outside of him, not sure who skates for them.
The Crosby going 0 for 5 in career penalty shots stat is mind boggling
