In the 90s and early 2000s that would not have been a big deal. It was known that youâre not going to get a call in those types of situations. Players would still complain and show frustration, but that was just how the game was called and that was the expectation that was set. The refs had different sets of rules for different teams and depending on the player, a call was made. In fact a lot of refs would swallow the whistle in the 4th quarter and playoffs. In the last 10 years itâs changed a lot and for the better in that regard. Now there is an expectation of refs to make calls in those types of situations. The broadcasts used to ignore it and never replay it to show up the refs and NBA, but apparently theyâve changed as well.
