Fishing for DEEP Ocean Snowy Grouper

- In this episode of BlacktipH, I go fishing in Destin, Florida, with the hopes of catching a deep, cold-water fish known as the Snowy Grouper. We began by trolling wahoo lures on the way to the grouper spots. On the way there we got a strike on the lure, and it was a wahoo! After a short fight, Preston gaffed the fish and brought it in the boat. It was a 45-pound Wahoo. We continued to the Snowy Grouper spot, which was deeper in the ocean. Once we arrived, both Preston and I dropped down our baits to the bottom. We were using butterflied Boston mackerel for bait. The bite was instant, Preston and I were both hooked up to Snowy Groupers. Throughout the day, we also caught Champagne Porgys, Yellowedge Grouper, and Golden Tilefish.

from experience i can say hand reeling over 800 feet of line with fish on the end and several pounds of weight sucks the electric is not cheating here

No, if they release them they have to use a pressure release clip to collapse their air bladder and get them down several atmospheres of pressure, but yes i assume they ate them

It's pretty fun in the sense that there is so much you can catch down that deep. Always cool to see what comes up. Though I prefer fighting a fish normally, at that depth it is miserable hand reeling an 8lb weight all day
They’re fishing very deep, so it would be tiering to reel up. That’s why they’re using auto reel.

I agree with you but if you fought any of them grouper for a few hundred feet you’d be smoked.
You can cut down a small tree with a hand saw. You can cut down a big tree with a hand saw. A power saw is much more fun cutting down the big tree. Try it!

electric reel fishing ain’t fishing chief
AMP Design its nearly impossible to reel up in such deep water without one. Much less many times in a row. He said it was over 800 rotations of the reel to the bottom. He would be sitting there for hours tiring out his arm just trying to reel the bait off the bottom one time.
@@alecrosenthal8856 sounds like a fun but difficult time. The struggle is what makes fishing fun for me. Its another reason why the fish tastes good too, its hard to catch and you gotta put in a lot of work to get them! or at least you used to. Im not hating just calling it as it is. If you get behind the wheel of a Tesla and it drives you to work are you driving?
AMP Design I agree completely. In BlacktipH’s case, reeling up dozens of fish, trying to catch as many as possible for the video, an electric reel makes more sense.

it actually happens no matter what, except in a few species of fish that are able to "burp" the gasses, theyre able to swim up and down to insane depths no problem

@@WiCkeDsHoX It's barotrauma from the gasses and the change in pressure. There is a tool that you can use to pierce their swim bladder to vent the gasses.
