Today the beautiful petrified logs are on display at Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park after being uncovered by the Ice Age Floods.

I found a small hunk of fossil wood inside of a rock pile infront of somebody's house in Washington, perfectly preserved rings with that broken off structure of the wood
(typing in song) So many videos on youtube to see, flat earthers, new cars and too much skin by the sea....the youtube algorthm brought me here, to...you guessed it.....3 min geology.

I never knew they had petrified logs in Washington. I always thought they were only found in the Petrified Forest in Arizona. Looked on line and found there is one in WA, UT, WY and AZ.

What I have trouble visualizing is how the organic particles escape if they are first chelated and encased by the silica. Just how thorough is the displacement. Have different cuts of axes shown point for point reproduction? How far down in size are the castings? Are nuclei and organelles also preserved? What about instances where soft wood has been found in cores of petrified samples?
That's where my mind goes, too, when I hear about this.

I'm glad you explained that it was in a layer of pillow lava. "We had the right ingredients then, for petrification. A lot of water, a lot of heat and minerals, silica from the overlying basalt lava."

We know solar flares change the decay rate of radiocarbons. We know geologists have not accounted for the global flood layers nor the asteroid impact ejecta displacement. Petrified wood doesn't petrify in air. It disintegrates and is eaten by bugs with a decade or two max. Petrified wood requires water and minerals. It is more evidence of the global flood and ensuing ice age. The reason why you have seen such a speedy decline in glaciers is because they are artificial. The Earth resides in the goldilocks zone which does not allow that to last. The melt rate indicates the recentness of the flood. The cause was the asteroid which killed the dinosaurs. Their dates are all wrong. If you don't want to know the truth then go hide. Everything will be known.

Is it possible to do tree ring dating with petrified wood? you mentioned that the cell structure is preserved.
Good question. No. Tree ring dating only works with trees that lived recently...and their ring patterns match living neighbors nearby. Since these logs are millions of years old, there is now way to look at the rings and determine age.
It is possible, the age won’t match the proposed age. Do a test and you’ll see the truth.

some of the tree castings still have the wood inside them. its sort of oxidized and crumbly brown caramel color. i know of a few a wish there was some way to date the wood.

Millions of years is determined from measuring the amounts of parent and daughter isotopes in the elements of the lava rock overlying the wood at Vantage. This technique has been used worldwide - and the ages are cross checked using field evidence involved relations between layers. Any idea what petrified trees have the most tree rings? I'm doing my best to help my friends that are stuck in the creationist ideology out of it, and this information might help a bit. Love the videos!
They've already been manipulated into believing that tree rings could have formed faster back then, cause you weren't there to see itm same with ice core layers. Good luck, they're prepared to do some wild mental gymnastics to avoid admitting they were duped.
Sadly, there's nothing you can tell them that will help.
Why does the basalt lava have less structural integrity than the petrified wood that causes it to be eroded away and the wood not? Does the purity of the silica in the petrified wood as opposed to the basalt give it longevity?

We discussed this in the video. Water was present (lake) to protect the logs from the heat of the lava.

A couple questions and observations...
So, it's obvious that 15 million years ago, the climate in this region was very different. Currently, eastern WA is dry because the cascade mountains create a rain shadow effect, while the olympic peninsula has 360 inches of rain per year. Can we speculate that the cascade mountains are at least younger than 15 million years? Or is there other geology / geography at play here to cause this wet climate?
If the logs were being cooled by water while the lava was enveloping them, do we know anything about where the water was coming from? Is there evidence of any ancient rivers? Or maybe glaciers? or lakes?
Would it be possible to find fossilized wildlife from the 15 million year time period? Or was that all washed away?
And a totally random shot in the dark: I'm guessing that the current yellow stone hotspot used to be under eastern washington and it was the source of all the lava flows. Either the north american continent has moved over 15 million years by the distance difference between Eastern WA and yellowstone, or the hotspot itself has moved somehow, or maybe a little bit of both. However, if the hotspot has moved, wouldn't we be able to find geological evidence of past hot spots between yellowstone and eastern washington? Have we?
Good questions. The Cascades have existed for 40 million years....but there is good evidence they were quite low 15 miillion years ago....so no rainshadow effect then. There were inland lakes that the lavas encountered due to lava dams of the Columbia River. A cast of a rhino was famously found at Blue Lake from the time of the lavas...in fact the lava killed the rhino. And yes, there are a string of older calderas between Yellowstone and the Cascades. dont forget plate tectonics 15 million years ago according to scientists the north american plate was futhur south and east then now. I cannot imagine that a tree for example would remain for millions of years without being damaged or pushed out or destroyed by the constant motions of tectonic plates and subduction which they claim reclaims and remakes rocks and land and from other events lhappening, was that location always peaceful all this time? not sure if timeline is correct, I have no reason to believe scientists on their time lines because they have not proven or shown us how they arrived or anything to convince us except trust us we are experts analogy, there large numbers are based on assumtions, according to this books about this stuff I have been reading it does say that in their aging of rocks and fossils etc they operate on several assumptions, they even admit it as such, and one thing is that many things studied would take millions of years to occure. I couldnt beleive I was reading this in some magezines and books I had gotten from the library.

Wait so..this whole forest was buried in lava, but then the trees didnt burn because they were also underwater at the same time....?
Because "Prehistoric" forests are only a few thousand years old and they need an excuse for why the trees are exposed, perfectly intact, and weren't covered in sediment.
It takes more then a coupla thousands of years to petrify a whole tree. PILLOW BASALT happens when lava hits water, the trees, forests where probably flooded some time before the lava flow.

On some of the other postings I found on utube they claim is these logs are only 220 thousand years old , not 15 million , a big difference , so who is right ?
The lava flows of central Washington have been dated using radiometric dating of elements in the lava. 15 million years old is the undisputed answer among scientists. The lavas blocked the Columbia River at times....creating lakes.

It involves soaking a section of wood in hydrochloric acid for two days and then in either a silica or titanium solution for another two days. After air-drying, the wood is placed in an argon gas filled furnace and slowly heated to 1400° Celsius over a period of two hours.1. jul. 2015

The age of the petrified wood is determined by age-dating the rock layers above and below the layer of logs.
Is that the age of the tree only when it lived, but not the age of the time after it died...?

+Nick Zentner Hey there, great videos, very informative :D I've also been reading some of the comments especially on this video and unfortunately it seems quite a few people (who are oddly hostile) are right into some various claims of massive rock formations actually being enormous petrified trees, simply because some pictures of the formations look like tree stumps (ironically they never mention this, seemingly to try to avoid saying it and they just challenge you). It's quite astonishing and disappointing for "your average Joe" to come on here and try to refute science/geology and your expertise. Regardless everyone can have an opinion and again great videos, I've enjoyed watching them so far.

Mr. Zentner, these two minute geology videos are awesome! I'm a high school senior, and I'm looking for a career that allows me to explore and go on adventures around the world (I'm really interested in mountainous regions). Geology seems the most promising (particularly exploration geology). But to be quite frank, I have no idea what I'm getting myself into. Is there any advice you can give to an aspiring geologist?
