Glacial Lake Missoula
Glacial Lake Missoula was the source of much of the water for the famous Ice Age Floods of the Pacific Northwest. Featured field evidence for the lake include strandlines above Missoula, Montana, giant current ripples at Camas Prairie, and striking rhythmites along Interstate 90 at Nine Mile Road near Missoula.
Tom Foster (HUGEfloods.com) and Nick Zentner (Central Washington University) have been hiking together in Washington for years. This ’Glacial Lake Missoula’ episode stands alone, in addition to their popular ‘I-90 Rocks’ and ‘2 Minute Geology’ video series.

Rain Shadow Effect

Rain Shadows - dry areas on downwind sides of mountains - are prominent on the Big Island of Hawaii and east of the Cascade Range in the Pacific Northwest. Many rain shadows exist around the world - including north of Asia’s Himalayas, west of Austalia's Great Dividing Range, and east of California's Sierra Nevada Range. Three essential items are needed to develop the rain shadow effect - an oc...
Geology of Seattle and the Puget Sound
zhlédnutí 305KPřed 9 lety
The hills and lakes of Seattle, Washington are a direct result of multiple Puget Lobe advances during the Ice Age. Beneath the drumlins, outwash, glacial troughs, and scattered glacial erratics lies the Seattle Fault, an active fault which has produced numerous magnitude 6 or higher earthquakes since the Ice Age. Interstate 90 exposes much of this geology in its first few miles heading east fro...
Volcanoes Around the World

Volcanoes around the world (Kilauea, Rainier, Mazama, Yellowstone, Long Valley) erupt magmas with differing silica contents - and therefore have constrasting eruptive styles. Eruptive styles range from effusive and quiet...to explosive and deadly. And there is a global pattern for the location for these volcanoes. Magma chemistry (silica content) is an important factor in determining the locati...

What is a Coulee? Dramatic coulees of eastern Washington's Channeled Scablands were created by powerful Ice Age Floods that dug aggressively into the Columbia River Basalt flows. I have seen a lot of Nick's more detailed class videos on aspects of the geology of the Pacific Northwest, but these 2 minute geology pieces are still some of the best entry level videos out there. Dear Nick Zentner and Tom Foster, Why hexagonal always forms vertical but not horizontal in Basalt? Maybe it is not volcanos? How can you prove your theory? Mud never cracks in perfect hexagonal, it is more random and chaotic cracks/shapes, so you can't compare it.

If these petrified logs were cut or cracked by nature why most of the cross section of the cuts are flat and exact perpendicular to the length of the log 1:47 Petrified logs are old but the cuts are too perfect to be that old , may be by some old advanced civilizations
