- STRAIGHT POOL - SHANE VAN BOENING, “The South Dakota Kid” was up against “Robocop” DENNIS ORCOLLO at the Accu-Stats All-Star Invitational in 2014. Van Boening, at 30 years old, was the defending U.S. Open 8-Ball and 9-Ball champion. He also captured the Accu-Stats’ 2013 One-Pocket Invitational. Let’s see how he did at straight pool. Orcollo, at 35 years old, just won the Derby City Classic “Master of the Table” award and the DCC “Straight Pool Challenge". This was a very competitive match with some nice runs as they were both at the top of their games. Don’t miss this one.

I like Billy and Danny on commentary, but it is a little annoying to hear them say a player did it wrong, because they did not shoot the balls the way they would do it. If the player runs out, he did it right, unless he misses a ball and gives up the table to the other player, then he did it right.
I know Billy and Danny think everyone should do things they way they did it 30 years ago, or it is wrong, but it is 2022 and players do things a different way sometimes today. Unless they make a mistake and they do not get out, then they did it the right way, their way, not the way Billy or Danny would do it.
Take a shot every time they say “I don’t like that”
People complain about Danny, but the problem is Billy. Doing commentary with JJ, Danny is terrific.
Never heard a pair of commentators arguing during a game before.
Danny is terrible on the mic, he thinks if they do not run out the way he would have done it in 1980, they are doing it wrong. Even though it is SVB and Robocop, two of the top 10 best players in the world.

Billy and Danny are in full Dan Akroyd vs. Jane Curtain mode for this one. I thought one was sure to murder the other at one point.

They're like an old married couple in rare form here, especially the front end. I think the Duran comment lightened the atmosphere, though.

Why does Orcullo keep shooting those breaks without putting spice on the cue ball to avoid that corner scratch. In one case the apex ball came out and gave him a tiny kick that absolutely blocked that scratch and he still came perilously close to the pocket. It seems to me that that is very dangerous practice, as the statistics if you keep just barely missing the pocket like that are going to catch up with you. Is he so confident of the rack breakout timing that he's comfortable with the risk? I don't get it. Am I missing something. It's rare for me to see something like that that a pinnacle pro like Orcullo continues doing that I can't figure out. Apparently I am clueless here, somebody enlighten me, please.
Major justified (MHO) rant: I HATE those farking spots! That is a pool carryover brain fart that should have LONG disappeared. What is wrong with a damned PEN marking on the table? You can do more with it anyway to mark for much more consistent racking, etc. Whoever came up with that spot should be hung up and shot. As an engineer, when I see simple stupid fixes like that that don't get implemented for decades I gotta just shake my head. I've had shots where I was practically forced to VERY slowly roll a ball for position over good ole K2 there, or manufacture some stupid hail Mary shot that falls flat, and had the ball roll back and totally fark up a run out.
I know the standard stupid answer, "that's pool". My answer to that is BS, that's lunkheaded industrial strength stupid 'should have disappeared a century ago'. We have iterated pool cues, tables, and balls over the years to the nth degree, and still, that moronic spot just sits there. Sorry for the rant, but GOOD LORD, WTH? I realize it didn't matter here, but sometimes it very much does. Can you tell it pisses me off?

Every time Shane missed It makes me shutter Dennis isn't playing his best but everytime he walks to the table he is a possible to run out.
I would love to subscribe or even buy videos from here. But listening to Bill and Danny argue every single shot for no reason but show controversy ruins it. Makes me just mute the sound and watch.

SVB shoots the 7 straight in the side and makes it, so clearly the 8 was not all he's got. I love Danny, but he has to go, he is getting senile.

Danny is out of touch with reality, they need to get him off these videos. Get Mark and JJ. SVB and Robocop are 2 of the best players in the world, and they could beat Danny one handed, and he is telling them they are doing it wrong, when there are a million way to run a rack of straight pool.
Notice that Billy never said a word to Danny at the start of the video when Danny started saying they are doing it the wrong way, Billy was silent.
This has to be the most fouled up commentary I’ve ever heard of; need to pair Danny with JJ.
