- STRAIGHT POOL - In 1993, GRADY MATHEWS and MIKE ZUGLAN were matched up at the Cleveland 14.1 Invitational. Both of these players were recognized as great straight pool players as well as 9-ball competitors. Grady was also recognized as a 1-pocket player and a producer of billiard events. Zuglan always performed well and was always a threat.

thank you Pat
These matches are the best. Always amazed at their skill. And the great commentary. And by the sounds of it Pat (The man himself!) had quite the run in his match as well!
Thanks again Pat.
The entertainment value you provide all of us is priceless.
We super appreciate you uploading these old matches! Some constructive criticism: Is it possible to overlay a score counter when you digitize these old matches? Its so difficult to follow these matches without knowing the score at all times. Thanks for the consideration.
Noted!
Hi Pat, thanks for the match. First time I’ve seen Zuglan. Looks like 5” pockets. Tight enough for me the way I am shooting. :)
Thanks Pat, missed the stream but enjoying the match now.
wow, great shooting by both players. I forgot how great these two players were. Thank you for the post Sir Fleming.
What a great straight pool player zuglan was
More matches of the not so big named player's Mr Fleming, Like to watch Zuglan play, RIP The Professor
Always enjoy this American game.
great commentary!
Gandy pool tables!! Who remembers Gandy pool tables? Also smoking in the pool room. Who remembers smoking while shootin pool? Remember the little burn stains on the rail where smokers would lay their lit cigarettes?
●●● Thanks, Pat! Great match.
Thanks Ed. I agree.
Straight pool is such a deceptively tough game and I regret not playing it enough because I truly feel that learning this game and getting to a high level will improve your ability in every pocket game. My high run is 50 to date. Whenever I get a chance to practice by myself I always practice straight pool and I set a goal which is around 10 more than my current high run.
I'm always amazed at how difficult it is to reach that goal!
Wow
Do you have any games with JR Gay
Yes, vs Ronnie Allen in 1-pocket.

These guys would get SMOKED nowadays. Look how lazy and nonchalant they are with their patterns and execution. SMOKED
you're delirious...their pattern play is very good. Grady had 107 in 2 innings and didn't have a tough shot to hit nor did he hesitate or dawdle in his shot selection. Zugland had a 117 ball run in 20 minutes. 270 balls were pocketed in an hour and 20 minutes. I don't know which match you we're watching.
