    I've used my DV12-MKII speakers for a couple years now. I also have the matching subs (3 x SSP118's), but I primarily use the tops for outdoor gigs. Crystal clear sound and punchy bass blocks away! They are a beast to transport and handle, but the quality can be heard and felt.

    Nice speakers. I agree with you Barr. Today's speakers are tuned great. so in the past we had to sometimes bring another mixer to tune the hell out of the speakers. but now a days the output of a Rane mixer or nexus mixer of even a S9 is all you need.

    Bassboss is the real deal. I hear some complainers on the price. You get what you pay for. I have 2 of the ZV28s and 2 of the VS 21s. That combo will play down to 20hz and kick you in the chest(HARD). Which is funny because most people don't even know what 20hz even sounds like or feels like. You made a great purchase. I also am running SRX 15s for tops and want to upgrade to these tops soon.

    I own several Mackie SRM 450's and a pair of DV12 Micromains... While I love the Mackie design, I can't argue the sound quality of BassBoss. They have poor ergonomics though. The handles are in funky places (Mackie handles are on the sides), they are hard to lift, and the bottom loaded velcro bags are ONLY for protection - they don't even have pockets for cords and such.
    Even with all the inconvenient handling features, they sound amazing! I will never do an outdoor gig with Mackies again... BassBoss all the way.
    BTW, I also own three BassBoss SSP118 subs.

  • @motadotfm
    @motadotfm Pƙed 2 lety +5

    Random question: Why are subwoofers always placed on the floor? Is bass meant to be felt through the floor with our feet?
    I get the practical standpoint that subs are usually heavy and wouldn't hold up on a stand - but just wondering if that's the only reason.

    • @mattholmes2808
      @mattholmes2808 Pƙed 2 lety

      it all depends on the enclosure
      bandpass sealed ported horn loaded cardiod. how the sound engineer manufactured the speaker and specs

    • @kenfiedler549
      @kenfiedler549 Pƙed 2 lety +2

      Simply bass especially subs are usually felt and not heard, most people can’t hear below 35-40 hertz but can feel it. The bass you “hear” is usually mid bass. Hence why subs are usually on the ground. If you put a full range speaker on the ground shooting at peoples feet, the energy is lost very quickly in the high end due to the sound waves moving quickly and being absorbed. Subwoofers are omnidirectional in a natural format. Cardioid subs let the energy shoot more frontward and cancel out rearward. I fly subs in arenas all the time and we use it more for imaging the large format PA. Also subs on speaker stands (they don’t exist) would be very ineffective for most DJ applications, including the reason they aren’t designed for that and it’s completely unnecessary to be head height, due to being omnidirectional. 2 way top boxes should be over head height for maximum throw distance and not shooting into peoples ears.

    • @way2tall1979
      @way2tall1979 Pƙed 2 lety +2

      It’s called ground coupling. You get an extra 3-6db of spl. Actually if you have a wall next to them it works even better. We do fly(hang) them time to time depending on what our space limitations are but it takes more power to do that as you lose the extra sound you get from coupling. Hope that helps.

      I have an ETX system 2x ETX-35P & 2x ETX15P tops with 2x ETX18SP Subs. I upgraded to Bassboss VS21 Subs and am getting some DV12’s soon. I understand your logic about getting more EV speakers however buying Bassboss speakers have been my best investment in sound hands down!!! My ETX kit can not even compare to Bassboss. Not even a little. The quality sound and power Bassboss pushes out is spectacular! My clients are blown away with my VS21 Subs! 1 Bassboss VS21 Sub easily outdoes 3-4 ETX Subs.

      @@mtldjtechnical I think he meant price comparison. For the price of these 2 tops alone, a full top of the class sound system can be bought. Which is plenty for most event under 500 people

    Using Powersoft is a negative coz they make terrible sounding amplification
    So my guy here who likes sonic quality will be disappointed.

    Srx sounds clear than dv12

    • @pf7618
      @pf7618 Pƙed 2 lety +1

      The reason why I'm saying this because I have 4 dv12 and 2 bassboss subs, subs are really good. I also have 2 srx835p for me the loudness and clean sound, the SRX is far way cleaner, and if you put them together and play it, you will tell the difference. So what I do, I hook them all up when I go around DJing. I mean I hookup 2 dv12, 2 SRX and 2 bassboss subs dj18s, and 2 JBL stx828s subs, both brand bring an ultimate super sound. Sometimes I'll just take 1 bassboss subs and 2srx tops and it still rock it. Bassboss subs are really outstanding subs and it sounds soo deep. For me JBL for tops and Bassboss for subs. Every dj is different and I do believe in every speaker they all have different sound. I'm gonna try QSC next. Thanks.

      @@pf7618 well, it’s tough for ANY 2-way speaker to compare to an SRX835P. That’s a 3-way box. They’re clear as hell but have some weight to them.
