    Revisiting this 2 years later, and I still love these speakers. I still love that I didn’t spend $1k+ on something similar. These are the most slept on speakers in the industry, and I’m cool with that. Most djs like to show off their brands, and Harbinger is not a show off brand. If I had a bigger budget to work with, I would not switch brands, I would just buy more of these. Unless you are about to get into some high end concert stuff, this is the way to go.

      I have a quick question out of curiosity what is the best settings for these speakers and how can I maximize the potential without blowing the speaks I know a dbx can help me but I would like a little more info just copped these speakers yesterday and I'm excited to use them but I want to configure them the best way possible

    • @IamIanMusic
      @IamIanMusic Před 2 lety +2

      @@tinoelbambino420 as a fellow owner of these speakers i would say to bump up the lows 3 - 5 db's. highs in my opinion are good as they are, however I feel as if the mids are a little too much. and obviously there is no mid eq option, unless you have a mixer. if you do have a mixer tho, then i would turn them about 4 db's. obviously this is my opinion, and based off what my ears enjoy. others may give you their own answers/opinions

    Good review! I am one of the people who have been waiting for this review since you did the tour of your storage unit. As a dj AND live sound engineer, I think these would be a good addition to my setup. I have learned to look at the individual product from a company, instead of seeing a brand and instantly saying no or yes. Example, behringer has some of the best digital mixers in the game right now. Harbinger has definitely stepped it up with their current line of speakers.

    I actually took these on a short west coast tour. Dates between Seattle to San Fransisco. I paired them with the Midas MR18 mixer. Once I got things dialed in, I was actually blown away. I got quite a few compliments. I left both speakers on a flat eq profile.

    I started out on a pair of Harbinger's. They got me thru quite a few gigs and allowed me to upgrade to better speakers. The fly points on top stood out to me, you usually find that only on high end speakers. Cool review Barr, thanks!

    I have 2 of the 18” subs, 4 of the 12” for stage monitors and 2 of the 15” for mains. I run sound (not professionally) with a total Harbinger setup, minus the mixer (using a presonus studio live). These speakers are no joke awesome. Clear voicing, great lows, so far no overheating outside, we will see this summer though. So far, fantastically solid.

    I bought 2 of these this weekend from guitar center. I picked up the 12 in. ones to replace my 12in. powered EVs. The bass response is far better than the EVs. I play guitar and run my line 6 helix in stereo through them. I am very happy with them.

    I have used the Vari 2112's as PA in a blues band I do sound for on occasion. It was the bands PA system. I was pretty impressed with the sound. If they kept improving on the sound I'm sure those speakers are fine to use, even if you are a professional. I'm not a name-brand snob, so it doesn't matter to me. My personal PA is Turbosound Milan gear, which isn't considered 'professional' either, but I've gotten plenty of complements on how my system sounds. I'd say my Milans are just as good as JBL Prx and EV ETX PA speakers, because I've used those too at a venue I've worked at in the past.

    Great Review! I have the previous model harbingers, and i can say that for the price, they get pretty loud for the parties i do, and some people were actually impressed with the sound and asked me about these speakers, and also i will say that the bass is enough for me and i like alot of bass, but im coming from a previous 15" party speaker that lacked bass and these were a huge improvement. One thing tho that i hear people say frequently, is that your tops should not have a lot of bass because it might overpower the highs, and you should have a balanced sound, so thats why depending on the size of the room or environment, most people usually uses a sub(s) to get loud bass. And I connect these speaker to a separate mixer so if im far from the speaker, i dont have to get up and walk to it everytime i want to adjust something when im djing, i can do it on the mixer next to me and i get better control imop. Stay Safe everyone.

    The guys who always argue “I’m a professional, I use only professional grade gear” are usually the same guys who still demand they meet a client first before booking them and more then likely have an “epic grand entrance where I give a little back story on each bridesmaid and groomsman” get over it, I have had a pair of budget speakers outlast a pair of “High end professional tops” not that I recommend every DJ to just go out and buy a bunch of these, but understand not everyone can afford QSC, if their talented and can complete a gig with a smile on everyone’s face why does it matter if their speakers cost a little less? If one fails, toss the backup on the stand and keep going ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ we are talking about weddings here... the bride does not give a shit about what label is on that speaker, she cares about her guests remembering how much fun they had at HER wedding! Man... these old school ways of thinking just need to be gone, thanks for the good video man!

    • @Xolanidj
      @Xolanidj Před 4 lety +5

      I agree. There is a science to finding a good speaker and not just depending on a name brand. Most of the djs that say they only roll with QSC are either just trying to show off to other djs, or don't really know much about sound when it comes to eq and gain staging. Not that you can make ANY speaker sound good, because some are just crap. It's just that you don't have to spend $1000 to get a good speaker to do events with. I ran with some Alto TS212's for 4 years. I could get them to sound good, but they have no dsp and no protection. If someone screams too loud in the mic, then the tweeter is blown. I've replaced quite a few tweeters on them (I had 4 tops). It's just a horrible design flaw that Alto had, but I'm not sure if they fixed them with the TS3 series. So I would say that for the same price range with some much updated technology, these Harbingers are a good way to go.

      @djskye777 Před 3 lety +2

      @@Djdannyb305 800 each or a pair? Get these if for a pair. If you’re going for 800 each, go for Ekx 15p. I got lucky in October and got some used ones for my multi op second setup and tested them out New Year’s Eve. They really thump on club mode, with bass turned up to plus 4 dB. Good luck to you.

  • @freeyourmindandtherestwill9208

    Also, I've seen a few comments where people are asking or talking about the Alto TS line. As a dj and live sound engineer, I have heard a lot of different speakers over the years. I had some Alto TS212's that I traded in to get these Harbingers. I will tell you that these absolutely KILL anything that Alto has out right now. I say that having had my Altos for 4 years, and produced a lot of shows with them. You can get the Alto's to sound good, but without any DSP or limiting/clip protection, they just don't hold up.

    Hi DJ. I really liked your review. Personally I'm looking more to the 12" vs 15". Question, this will be hooked up to my Yamaha DTX Pro E drums kit so that being the case, how do you think this would sound and would you recommend it? Guitar Center has the EV ZLX-12BT. I listened to this speaker while it was hooked up to a Roland E drum kit. It didn't sound bad at all and considerably better than the Simmons DA200S drum amp. Do you think the Harbinger will have better sound reproduction over the EV? Thanks, Dwight

  • @thatsmybit
    @thatsmybit Před 4 lety +2

    Everyone’s got to start somewhere. I’ve heard these with the subs hooked up. I was more blown away the sub had so much punch. It was at low to medium volume but still for the price it’s a great value. The ZLX and Eons start around $450-499 when not on sale. These speakers might not last as long or have the punch like you need but just to start they are a good buy.

    These vs the V2315? Which would you recommend? And the price is now somehow $449 and discounted to $399 at guitar center...kind of feels like a scam they should be $350 for almost 2 years old now right?

    • @IamIanMusic
      @IamIanMusic Před 2 lety +1

      When these speakers first went up, they were $399, and went on for sale for $350. but with the global component shortage. It's now $450, and goes on sale for $399. pretty sad that we could've taken advantage of the 350 deal.

    I have been waiting for these to get reviewed. I think they are another tool in a toolbox but... I question the longevity. I think harbinger could be wanting to compete with the K12.2’S with a more cost effective version of that speaker because QSC is used so widely. I say this because you can compare feature for feature, fly points, spl, dsp, etc, the comparison goes and goes. IMO , I think this is a great value but you wouldn’t take a $30 Walmart jack to a nascar race even though it says it can hold 3 tons. It would be the wrong.tool for the job. I like the features and things you get. Harbinger has somebody make their stuff for them (I think) because I have heard that the previous “stick” they sold was Behringer. This is just me but is mackie the only company right now offering color dsp? I’m probably wrong and I have nothing to base my opinion on. So that’s my 2 cents worth. I think they will be a good speaker for some things but I don’t think they would hold up to the kind of beating that a K, etx, ekx, or some jbl can take take. Prob definitely better than alto. I really would like to see a tear down and look at the amplifier, is it built for the long haul. You remove the amp from other speakers again like the K’s and you see why you pay more. Okay, again, that’s my 2 cents.

If you don't have a whole bunch of money to spend, or you just don't have the desire to spend a bunch of money, I would definitely recommend buying these. Edit 12/29/21: nope it's not. I bought the package with the 2 v4115's and 1 v2318s, and honestly, it isnt that great. sub clips way too easily, tops completely overdo the sub. No way in hell that the sub is doing 2400 watts, with a max spl of 134db.
