      Quick heads up, the player couldn't take an intentional foul on that break in FIBA rules, it's an automatic unsportsmanlike if you wrap a play up going towards the basket without making a legitimate play on the basketball. Also, if it's in this situation, if the defender had fouled him, it would have fallen under an unsportsmanlike foul, meeting the criteria of 'last defender'. Furthermore, unsportsmanlike fouls are treated similar as technical fouls, whereby the offensive team is awarded 2 shots and possession at the half.

      I watched UA last year with some long term fans, and while they love the Markkster it seemed like they did not expect him to go that high. We knew he could shoot of course, and he's got a stronger and more mature physique than he is generally given credit for (comes from a pro athlete family).
      His main limitation seems to be speed, including vertical speed, making D and driving a potential challenge in the NBA. However he has huge Bball IQ, and is absolutely focused on the court and off. So his ceiling is high if he can overcome his weaknesses.
      They'd talk about him being like Dirk, except to say that Dirk had a lot more skills at that very young age. It looks from this FIBA footage that Lauri's skills are growing.

      N Marbletoe hopefully if he can put on some more weight and at least give good effort on defense he can erase his down sides. I agree he should develop into an above average player in a few years.

    Markkanen is best talent Finland has ever had and it's so exciting ! Also our national team is continuing doing well and beating teams that are better in paper. It all started in 2011 and it has continued ever since. Ofc Markkanen is the cherry on the cake and makes team really dangerous since we now have NBA level star. We have Koponen who is one of the best players in europe and probably could play NBA if he wanted but now we have real star. I really hope Markkanen does well in NBA.

    @Bballbreakdown At 5:05 FIBA has different rules for fouling on a break. Defender was behind him, so any foul was an automatic flagrant: 2 shots and possession. When the player is in his layup, it would be a normal foul (but then, it would probably be a bonus, or still risk a flagrant for a hard foul)

    Great video coach. I always felt he was going to be a star with a lot of potential. People and haters forget is that he's only 19. His skills and movements are already really polished. It's great to see him making plays off the dribble and not just a basic spot up shooter or post plays. He will be great, a lot of potential imo. He contributes right away while having upside potential for the future.

      And his metrics aren't amazing. Porzingis came into the league with good length and athleticism for a man his size along with the ability to have handles. Markkanen also is going to need all of what he has with no real wing players with the Bulls to run with.

    • @henrywc6494
      @henrywc6494 Před 7 lety +1

      It's a simple misunderstanding at that point he's played one year in college as a freshman so people assume he's 19. 19-20 it's semantics really. 19-22 is still too young to expect any player to reach his full potential, still way too early mate.

    • @henrywc6494
      @henrywc6494 Před 7 lety

      Agree with his metrics but any player with his mechanics and movements are worth taking the risk. Metrics from college or overseas are just for roles at the time and stage, he will have a bigger and different role to pursue in the pros, you can't estimate from past metrics or information.

    Poland couldn't foul him after that steal, Fiba's rules treat all clear path fouls as unsportsmanlike. BTW Coach - could you make a video of after time outs plays from this game, cause it really looks like they were no factor for Poland and essentially lost them a won game?

    The pressure that prospects have is insane, many of them look at these youtube video commentaries even if they say they aren't. The sheer expectation of readiness is immense, naturally after drafts fans want to see them blossom straight away; some flowers earlier than others - continuity! As a Finn, I admire the level of play from the US even when they bring a "D-team" to the olympics, let us grow, cherish the talent and give them their fair due. Basketball - the crazy sport that will give you a minor heart attack every second.

      In Europe, FIBA allows officials to make calls based on what the defender's intent was when making a play. At 5:13 if the Polish player swipes down and is near the ball the foul won't be intentional, especially at a big point in a game. NBA should try give officials more freedom do decide the Intent of a team/player, would make for a more entertaining game imo, eliminate boring hack-a-shaq free throw contests, guys getting 2-3 free throws just for pump-faking on the 3-point line, etc.

Well maybe a little but I already knew he can ball, defend and shoot! Although his maturity at defense has been surprising! Most people are realizing only now what a great talent Lauri is! And of course we all love him here, he is the star player in our team along with Koponen whose arm is clearly getting better now.
    You Bulls fans should be happy and excited! With proper coaching and enough chances Lauri can be your franchise sf/pf for a long time! He has been a Bulls fan since he was little so give him your bestn enough playing time and chances to develop and you will have a solid 15 ppg and 7 rpg player here, maybe even more due time!

Big men have changed, I look at the good bigs in the league and ask "what can they give you on the perimiter?" Well, with Draymond its ball handling, passing, defending and some shooting. Good bigs have perimiter skills even if those skills don't include shooting (although a huge plus). Good bigs today can play on the perimiter, that's so important. If thats being mobile enough to set high screens or skilled enough to trust their dribble a little and make a pass. Shooting isnt the only valuable thing bigs need on the perimiter now.

And Lauri has the tools to be a good player maybe even an all star cause we don't know the potential of him just yet and I would say Kris Dunn is just scratching the surface of his potential he didn't play that good with the T-Wolves but since he'll more than likely be starting for the Bulls expect him to rise up and the Bulls should tank this year with Porter, Doncic, Bagley II and I wouldn't sleep on Miles Bridges either.

    I feel like the Bulls are still reeling from D-Rose's injury-riddled time in Chicago which is why the Bulls' front office opted not to draft another super-athletic PG like him (i.e, Dennis Smith Jr.). That said, as a Bulls fan, I really hope this Markkanen kid can prove all doubters wrong.

    I've been known every thing your just know noticing go check out my comments on all his summer league videos people who didn't watch him at Arizona wrote him off when he got drafted but I've known lauris jumper is TRUE and always had the ability to take people off the dribble
