  • I bought the primary set of Holbein gouache paint. After testing Hoaradam Schmnicke gouache ( • MOST EXPENSIVE Gouache... ) I’m curious to swatch, test, and paint with Holbein gouache.
    I wrote this article where I compare 10 gouache brands that you can buy online, individual tubes, and artist quality grade: cecileyadro.co... Holbein is in the mid-range price.
    You can get the set of primary colors by Holbein here:

    US and rest of the world: amzn.to/3RzQtOM
    You can follow ‘Gouache Portrait Masterclass’ here: school.ceciley...
    and learn how to paint portraits with gouache.

    I am just starting with gouache and bought the 5 tube set that you just reviewed for $27. I played around with them, mixing all my own colors until I was sure I liked the medium - you’re right! That cyan is really strong! Eventually, I invested in a 24 tubes set, just for the convenience. I’m really happy with Holbein. I’m still a beginner, but learning fast! Thank you for all your helpful content.

    I have Schmincke Horadam, Winsor & Newton, Holbein and MGraham. I love the vibrancy of the Holbein colors and the creamy nature of the MGraham and Schmincke gouache.

    I use Holbein also and I love it! Especially since the first gouache I used was 10 dollars for 24 tubes 😮 when mixed they made weird colors and felt gooey and sticky. I didn’t enjoy them and thought well gouache wasn’t for me until this channel opened my eyes and showed me the light 🎉❤ now that I have artists quality my gouache experience has been amazing even though I’m totally a newbie 😂Thank you so much for your informative videos and easy to understand advice, tips and encouragement 😊

      This primary set concept is really perfect for beginner artist, and art students, or artist who don't really want to spend on more than several paints 💸... this encourages practicing more on color mixing.

      Hi Nora! I don't like M Graham, they contain honey, and it can mould inside an airtight palette, so I avoid using them.

    I’m getting to grips with gouache using Schmincke Akademie Gouache, it’s the only gouache I’ve found that comes in 60ml tubes and it’s cheaper than the Horadam and even some of the Winsor and newton colours which come in tiny tubes. And because the Akademie tubes are soooo big, it goes a long way to preventing me becoming precious about the paint and not wanting to waste fancy paint while I’m still learning! Not that the Schmincke Akademie isn’t fancy or good (it’s VERY good), there’s just so much more of it and it’s a lot cheaper. I do have a 60ml tube of Horadam white cause I’ve been told that if you want to upgrade one of your paints, the white would be the one to upgrade. I also have the Akademie white so I use both depending on what I’m using the white for. Falling deeply in love with gouache and always look forward to my 9pm painting sessions!❤️ I’d like to try Holbein but the price is the same as the Winsor and Newton here, if not more.

    • @CecileYadro
      @CecileYadro  Před rokem +2

      I like your attitude, getting the most quality you can afford, with large quantities so you're not afraid to use it. And Schmincke Akademie is a good paint.

    Thank you so much! This is exactly what I've been looking for. I would also love to see you try the Caran d'Ache brand. I have used many of their other products and found them to be superior to most options on the market, but that doesn't mean it's true of gouache. Gouache seems to be a very specialized market, and I don't want to make assumptions here based on other C d'A products.
