  • This is my general short game philosophy in seven minutes. Comparing shots around the green to underhand tosses can eliminate a ton of poor mechanics in your short game. It's also a great visual for learning to engage the bounce when chipping and pitching.
This video is the first chapter to my premium short game video series USE THE BOUNCE 2. For more information on this short game video series, you can visit my website:

    Brilliant!
Have had chip yips for three years.
Applied tips and yips instantly gone.
This tip works for me with all of my clubs. Especially with the driver.
Many thanks Monty for your simplification of the Game.

I’ve seen this same tip before from your previous video. It’s been 3-6 months now and I’m still using it til this day. Played 9 holes and I missed a few greens. At first, the guys I played with saw my practice pitch and laugh saying I’m scooping. After 3-4 holes they stop laughing and I end up shooting par. I’ve tried the old pga chipping and pitching (lean shaft weight forward) they all lead to fat chip (under pressure). The feelings I get from using this technique is like skipping a rock across the pond, relax and no jerky movement, find where you bottom out. It works so good. Sir, thank you for your video

What a great description. I chip with bounce for a few years now. I don't think it could be explained better.

Great video Monte, taking it back to basics. I had recently started overcomplicating the pitch shot by trying to rotate through it as I would the full swing. Needless to say the results weren't great. Thanks for getting me back on track. 👍

Love this, especially the superimposed bit at the end. Was out messing in the garden earlier and started tossing the ball and then chipping and it made instant impact.

Chips and pitches had become a problem for me...After watching this, I starting practicing hitting into a net in the backyard and noticed an instant improvement with my contact. First round with this new approach really helped my scorecard! Thx. Monte

Thank you Monte. I am 69 years old, 18 handicap. A lot of my higher scores are a result of inadequate short game. After trying who knows how many methods, and tips, I then looked into having a better understanding of "the toss". The first time that I finally let gravity take the head of the club to the ball the proverbial light came on over my head. My last two rounds of golf has been far more fun. I like all your other videos too and I give a shout out to Brendon Devore of Be Better Golf for making me aware of you. Thanks again

...what a fantastic lesson... i was pitching somewhat like that , using the bounce , but always felt i needed more for the full shot ... after seeing this video i had an idea ... and started the full swing with the very same thought and just a bit more intensity ... SO CONSISTENT ... ok i lost a club and a half , but what a feeling to know where the ball goes time after time , no matter what iron ...
so far , just at the range ... can't wait to try it on the course ... And i'm not too worried about the distance either ... i know once i make this feel my own i'll be able to squeeze some more juice out of it ... :)
... great concept , great explanation , great lesson ... thx a bunch monte !!!

    • @klausklaus9112
      @klausklaus9112 Před 5 lety

@Frank Manco ... not really ... gained a little back by keeping a very soft grip ... but i'm still a club shorter than what i used to ... with a higher ball flight ...
however , scores got a bit better and lost a single ball in 3 rounds ...
      hope that helps

Monte's original Short Game series changed the way I play 100 yards and in. And I've had instruction from some real good pros, they just never broke it down to this level. Simple, repeatable, consistency driven golf at every level!

I like this concept for shots around the green. The subtitle of the video mentions the “bounce” of the club, but the video didnt address this. In addition to the toss motion, the golfer may also need to open the club face a bit to expose the bounce of the club and also neutralize the leading edge of the club (which can potentially dig into the ground and affect the club coming into the ball).

Monte.................the golf world doesn't want to hear your "message" you are to logical, simple, clear and on point. How would THEY make any money? They have it set up to make it hard so that people think its impossible to do and need to take MANY lessons. My teacher JIMMY BALLARD said Tell them its hard and they can't do it and you will put them on their knees, especially and athlete, who has been able to do most anything thru out their careers.OF all the people on YTUBE you are, I think the best, but being the best doesn't always mean the most popular! Thanks for the great video!

Monte Scheinblum Thanks. Last question, does the ball position change with the 30 yd pitch vs a green side chip ? I watch a video with you awhile back where you mentioned that the ball position for the 30-40 yd pitch should be under your arm pit. I have used your ‘ right arm ‘ motion and it certainly works. Thanks
