- In todays video we spend the day in Bergen Norway. The 2nd largest city in Norway. Bergen was not what we expected at all. First of all, Bergen is one of the rainiest cities in Norway, but we got glorious sunshine. We also didn't expect to see such incredible views from Mt Fløyen. Also, did we mention we try reindeer Hot dog? Yep another surprise for us on our trip to Bergen. If you come to Norway, come to Bergen, you will not be disappointed. We are so glad we did.

Norway isn't known for reindeer sausage as much as Trekroneren is known for it :P
I'll try it the next time I'm in Bergen 🥳

Ahh yess the famous reindeer hotdog. In Norway we eat it every friday while we watch the gullrekka, we just call it reindeerfriday. Dont forget to buy the traditional outfit when u are here so you can blend in with the locals, its the helmet with horns on it 👍
Trolls, according to norwegian folk lore, lived up in the mountains (close to i.e. Bergen). Especially in an area called Jotunheimen. The term trolls are sometimes also assosiated with nordic giants.

Yes, from the jotuns/giants in norse mythology, there are mountain trolls made of stone, and forest trolls made out of roots/wood etc:) Great video and visit sognefjord, worlds longest populated fjord next time, or the hardangerfjord southeast of. both very nice:) Also nordfjord north of and many places north of that thats great to visit:)
And according to Otto Jespersen's movie character they also lives in caves (huler). And there are numerous types of trolls 😆🥳
another thing why Bergen got famous , is the composer Edvard Grieg and his 'Morgenstemning/morning mood'fro 'Peer Gynt . And the 2.book of Lucinda Riley's series 'The 7Sisters/Storm Sister'
Norwegian here, and never had a reindeer sausage in my life. I had reindeer steak though. I think this has become a touristy thing marketed as something Norwegian, but glad you liked it :)
I love whale meat though. That's more of a real exotic thing for foreigners.

Reindeer sausage is not that normal in Norway. Never tried it. But have eaten raindeer before. And i like the taste.

A really special place to visit is christian gaard trandal. Its only accessed by ferry but its heaven on earth.

Lol I grew up on reindeer, moose, whale and horse besides generic meats like lamb, beef, pork and chicken etc. growing up in Norway during the 90’s and 2000’s and I still eat reindeer once a week. There are a ton of cured meats made of venison, so maybe not in the format of a hotdog, bur sausage definitely. It’s more of a traditional old school thing which is why you may think it’s not common tho this is heavily due to what generation you’re from and where in Norway you live. Reindeer and moose are far more common in the countryside. I should know. My relatives are all farmers. Reindeer is extremely healthy as far as meats go, lean and full of vitamins and minerals due to the reindeer being out in the wild, and what they eat, as opposed to grass fed livestock. It’s also not considered as red meat.
@@kilipaki87oritahiti i am born in the 80s and my dad hunted reindeer on dovre alot when i was younger. We used to eat alot of finnbiff. But going around i norway buy hotdogs like in this video, its not common to see raindeer sausages, and that was my point.
Reindeer isn't that great. Deer is more tender for instance. You should try whale meat as long as it is still legal. It is tender if not overcooked, let the red be left inside, as this is a meat that the Eskimos eat raw. It is very nutritious and probably can save you some doctors visits. For the eco-system I also think that killing whales are very very bad. But you will struggle finding this excellent type of meat from mother nature

Greetings from the lovely town of Bergen,. PS, the reindeer sausage is a turist dog.. Not many norwegians buy it. (It is more normal up north.) We eat all the other dogs, This hotdog stand has been there since 1946. This is the place you go for a late night snack before going home from the pub.
Good to know. I hope it is good, or else my trip to Bergen is useless. I'm spoiled with nature experiences as a norwegian. Bergen doesn't tickle me that much. I don't understand why people want to have their houses up that steep. Looks wierd for icy winter weather if you ask me

😆 I'm norwegian, and I haven't had that reindeer sausage. I have had reinsdyr skav, reinsdyr spekepølse, moose meat, deer stew, whale meat. Bergen sells much fish, but the claim that everyone eats it is overrated. Of course there is a lot of delicious fish dishes. And other nice seefood.

You must come back to Bergen in the summer - when everything is green and there are flowers and decorations all over the city. 25-30 degrees heat and opportunities to take a trip to one of the beautiful beaches around and slightly outside the city centre.

I'm from the Bergen but have never heard of reindeer sausage before. Main food in Norway is pork, followed by poultry and cattle. Not fish. About the stores you enter, it is made for tourist. But i can recomend the movie troll hunters :) You can hike anywhere in norway. Even camp in the wild, except in infield.
Iv actually worked on Fløyen.. It was only for a couple of days but some years ago they installed some lights on top of the mountain so when its dark it lights up the mountain with different colors. Its actually pretty cool. Had to go up and down 14 times in one day refilling the Gløgg. Hehe. Thankfully we got to use the funicular.
We servered food and gløgg in the restaurant at the top (Gløgg is Norwegian hot drink with spices in it. We usually drink it around Christmas)
I don't think it is very norwegian. In Germany they have Glühwein, or mulled wine as it is called in english. Plus the gløgg syrup you get in norwegian stores is some mass produced citric based junk you mix wine and bits of fruit and raisins into. Sorry for killing your story/recommendation 👍☺️

@@Danny_R_ I agree, it is a bit to sweet, hits a bit badly on an empty stomach. I'm sure that someone can come up with a better recipe. Some of the ingredients aren't that bad choices, and maybe it is possible to make a better cocktail without changing the recipe totally. Not wiping this X-mas feel

Oh please. Eating reindeer here is normal. I grew up on it besides moose, whale, horse meat, lamb, pork, chicken etc. It’s very traditional. I still eat reindeer once a week. It’s also the traditional food of our indigenous Sámi population, distant related to all 1st nation/indigenous Americans. Their ancestors the Proto Finns migrated to Northern Norway from Siberia Asia during the Last Ice Age, and mixed with the already existing human population that had been here since the Stone Age (Western Hunter Gatherers from the Middle East), bringing with them blonde hair and light eyes, tho historically Norwegians has always been dark. And back when the Sámi came about there where no modern Norwegian state, country, culture, people, language or society in existence yet, why the Sámi are indigenous, and only indigenous people in all of Europe.

Yeah.... No Norwegian eats Raindeer sausage, and we do not have lingonberry (sweden) Tyttebær (norwegian) on our sausages.
Well. I have eaten the reindeer sausage very now and then. It is ok, though I like the other sausages more. I would also like to add that one of the great things about trekroneren is that they have suggestions for toppings for the different sausages. Outside trekroneren I usually do not tend to stick lingonberry jam on a hot dog. My parents swear by it when it comes to a lot of the more hearthy meat dishes such as sosekjøtt, meal balls and so forth.

I have never been to Bergen, I know that there can be a problem with air pollution in the winter, the cold can settle like a blanket over the city.
The more positive thing is that Sissel Kyrkjebø was born and brought up in the city, which of the two of you is prettier is completely impossible to say. She's maybe a little taller, but I've gone through my sinful life with the comfort that it's not the length that counts.🤔

The air pollution in winter has decreased. Electric cars now make up more than 50% in Bergen.
Thats for 30 years ago - You can't notice or feel any pollution in Bergen - the city is actually extremely clean and pretty. You also drink tap water throughout Norway - it's better than bottled water.
fish is def not a staple amongst norwegians anymore. i bet it makes up only 10-15 % of protein intake.
also, reindeer live a happy life compared to your pork..
2:30 fun fact, 3-kroneren is a tourist trap - Norwegians don't eat reindeer hotdogs, or hotdogs with lingonberry jam, or any jam for that matter. I've never tried 3-kroneren, but the foreigners love it.

Tourist trap? That place has been a staple of the late nights of many folks partaking in a bit of imbibing. Back before there were McD, other hamburger places or kebab spots, trekroneren was one of the few places where you could get some late night snacks. When it comes to the hot dogs there, they tend to suggest different toppings for different kinds of sausages. I understand that Trekroneren has become a bit of a tik-tok spot these last few years, but it is more than "just a tourist trap"...
