This week i head back to a field that’s absolutely loaded with Roman finds, mostly coins and brooches, what were the Romans doing in this little corner of Suffolk. Join me on another adventure as i take my metal detector and walk the historical landscape of our ancestors finding pieces of our history lost through time, unearthing treasures and the every day items that belonged to the people that once called this beautiful British landscape home. I think it was a field where Roman soldiers were billeted. They could easily lose coins and bits and bobs there, plus they might do metal smithing to make and repair weapons and tools.
I love that you take your son out with you. You teach him about history, spend time with him, show him respect, an he gets lots of fresh air and exercise. Bonding time. ❤❤❤😊
You could be right, they may have been a military camp there at some point. my son loves me detecting and as you say, it’s good for him to learn and to be outside. Here in Innsbruck I’m waiting patiently for the spring - the ground is frozen solid and there’s (mostly) snow everywhere!!🤦🏼😩😳

I filmed this video back in autumn. The ground is very wet here at the moment and the weather is windy and stormy. But yes it’s always fantastic to get out with my boy, especially when we’re on the good finds. Thanks so much as always for watching. All the best. 👍🏼

Nice video and great finds. Those Roman coins are a joy to get!! Never found one but will some day. The young lad did well getting that fibula. More up ahead. The pointer needs a bit of attention I think and may need some small adjustment. Jus’sayin’.

Great video and some fantastic finds. The little rectangle plaque thing is something I find a lot of too. I've been told they are from horse tack.
Thanks a lot, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, I found out from somebody else in the comments that that is a piece of horse tack, it’s a chest plate apparently. I’d say more than likely agricultural horse tack. Thanks for watching. 👍🏼
I've found a few and I was told they are blinker plates, for horses

Hi mate, really enjoyed this, it is a much better experience when you use b-roll clips and music and I'm sure its starting to help your channel grow a bit and pickup more views. The enticing titles and thumbnails are helping too! I would have no idea what it is like to find 5 Roman coins in one day, ridiculous!! You n Freddie keep up the solid work
Thanks mate, really glad you enjoyed it, I’m glad the extra effort i’m into filming and editing is showing.. I think it also improves the more experienced you get at producing these short films. Five Roman coins is amazing, I did find nine in one day on one of our fields once.. Fingers crossed the weather improves or at least stays dry and calm so I can get back out filming again. @TheDukesOfDerbyshire it’s meant to be dry down here on Sunday as well. In fact it’s not meant to rain all next week. Fingers crossed it stays that way. I absolutely cannot wait for spring now. Dark mornings and dark evenings, restrict detecting to weekends only and when the weather doesn’t play ball it’s very frustrating.

I don’t always have time at weekends, some weekends i do and some I don’t,
I like to just be able to go out whenever, I especially like going out in the summer evenings after work.
Fred is going to be one hell of a detectorist when he grows up💯 brilliant teaching dad and can I ask what vanquish your boy is swinging?? Just for my daughter that's all.. she coming up 7 and she after her own machine now.. especially watch you two just now haha.. thanks and keep being awesome lads👍👍
Thanks for the nice comment mate, he will be one hell of a detectorist, you’re right there, Fred uses both a vanquish, 340 and a 540, personally I would recommend the 540, reason being, the 340 is not Bluetooth so you have to use wired headphones and when the youngsters first start out they can easily get tangled up in the wires whilst trying to dig. The only disadvantage to the 540 is it comes with a 12 inch coil as standard which is slightly heavier than the 10 inch coil that comes with the 340, but you can buy the smaller coils for the 540. The vanquish is brilliant, a very capable machine for not a massive amount of money. Head onto the Crawfords Metal Detectors website, they will see you right. Plus you can get 10% off accessories including coils if you use my discount code - SUFFOLK10

@Toon-Tony thanks mate, tough to upload consistently this time of year with the dark evenings and crap weather, but hey, spring is round the corner.. another machine worth considering is the Minelab X-terra pro, There are a lot of technology for a small budget, I haven’t actually used one myself, but I’ve heard great things about them. 👍🏼
@suffolksearcher that's the machine I've had in mind all along to be honest. I got many mates on them and they say they so good for the money you can't get better! I'm on the minelab nox so to big and heavy she needs both hands to swing mine haha.. I am going to move up to manticore when I win the lottery haha. And I thought she could take mine. But we'll see I think I'll try her with her own machine new out the box so it's hers and not mine passed down.. hey thanks again maybe see you one day in a field 🤣🤣

It doesn’t strike me as a hoard there’s too wide of a date range on the coins. in all different conditions and from a fairly sizable area 100 m² plus.. personally I think that it’s more likely this was a trading post or something like that, there’s quite a bit of grey where pottery scattered around too. But it certainly an interesting place to detect..
