The whole set up around luxury and luxury brand houses I find to be morally and ethically repugnant that could not be any more disamibiguous, if they tried. The gatekeeping, the extortion, the degradation, the fallacy that your value as a human is decided on, imposed by a brand is ludicrous...but you need to be clothed and if you cannot sew and stitch your outerwear then it is a case of choosing the least offensive as it aligns with your social and cultural consciousness and identity.
I am not buying books either. I got a library card and have read six books so far in 2024. It's life-giving. We really have to consider why we support any of these brands. It’s not the quality or craftsmanship because a lot of these brands have cut corners on that. It’s sometimes the desire to be seen or to feel important. I’ve had to have a few come to Jesus talks with myself. I only buy quality items now if anything. My no-buy list contains EVERYTHING. For fitness apparel : fbf fitness, melt fit and j sculpt are my go to fitness apparel brands (black owned). No buy list : perfumes (I have tooo many) , costume jewelry (I would like to decrease that and get more fine jewelry ), sunglasses (I have tooo many) and lastly but most difficult: NO MORE black clothing (my closet looks like Janet’s closet in poetic justice 😂😂😂).
We are not the desired demographic for any brand let’s be for real.. unless the black collective works together to create our own stuff even though we don’t have the financing because of pervasive racism and generational wealth so that’s why reparations is important for ADOS .. the field will never be even … my old Lulu I will wear and I won’t buy anymore … I am doing no spend anyway and focusing on retirement.. so I just donate what I don’t use I am over my consumer phase and looking to get out the rat race

From reports of customer service to the ridiculous prices, and fastidious hurdles to PURCHASE their items, I give up. That's why I'm so thankful for dupes,or imitation. Luxury items are not even as special as before because everyone wears them; sometimes you can’t even differentiate the fake from real at a glance. I walked into Lululemon store in a white rich neighborhood in Grosse Pointe MI and I saw 2 Latinas, a black woman, and a white woman working and the customer service was very good. I bought 3 t-shirts. I'll shop there again.

Sis, I wish I had known about Lululemon before placing an order yesterday.😩 This makes me sad because I love their athletic wear and have items from them that are almost a decade old. Regarding books. I started reading consistently last year, but I prefer reading on the Kindle app. I hate clutter, so I don't buy physical copies of books. If I ever get the urge to read physical books, I'll get it from the library. Lastly, when it comes to sunglasses, I'm the opposite. When I buy luxury sunglasses, I tend to not lose them because I paid way too much money for them. I'm always aware of where they are at all times.

Yes! People often seem to equate lean/skinny with health which is not the case. It doesn't take into consideration that people - men and women - often get softer as the get older, bodies are often built different, more curves does not mean you don't deserve clothes. Megan Thee Stallion is not going to be the same size as a member of Black Pink! Personally I love the Max Mara and Marina Rinaldi split. I refuse to support any brand that doesn't support POC and poor customer service is an absolute deal-breaker. I am not going to beg to spend my money with people who don't respect me. This year I'm focused on buying BIPOC more than ever. Full size perfumes are a no-buy. There is no way I'm getting through a bottle so I'm going for the travel size at best even though it's not the best value.

I write the year I bought a book in the cover, so I can see when I read it. Last year I read a book that I bought 14 years ago in Antigua. I needed that book then. It was Pema Chodron - the Places that Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times. This year I picked up bell hooks - Sisters of the Yam: black women and self-recovery, bought in 2005. 😊
I retired over a year ago, so I don't need much. I was a professional so blazers, suits, dresses were my wardrobe. I could wear those to church as well. However, I don't need another athletic shoe, or workout gear. Jewelry (I hardly wear my LV hoops and other things. Purses ( I do want a FENDI and another Gucci). Jackets and blazers. As someone who is now a size 11 it's sooo hard to find boots that fit with nice leather quality. So many brands stop at a 10. I like Athleta and Zella for workout attire. I’m so glad to see some women of color in the influencer space dropping some of the shackles to the luxury brands that clearly cater to a specific demographic that is not us. When I saw that Lulu lemon article a couple weeks ago! I was like “you don’t have to tell me twice” 😏not that I have a lot of their items but the ones I do have I will continue to use but never giving them my coins ever again!

From reports of customer service to the ridiculous prices, and fastidious hurdles to PURCHASE their items, I give up. That's why I'm so thankful for dupes,or imitation. Like something, get an affordable one until I can get an original(if it's worth it). I do respect your honesty with buying luxury items and I have been expressing this to my friends for years. Most of these luxury brands do not even appreciate black people wearing their brands.
Luxury items are not even as special as before because everyone wears them; sometimes you can’t even differentiate the fake from real at a glance.
Stop making luxury brand owners increase their wealth; invest your money. Not saying not to buy if you can afford but do conscious and intentional purchases.

However, it dawned on me about three years ago that many of the authors are promoting their version of supremacy. I’ve gone from reading a book a day to zero. Shifting a lot. Great video. Hermès recently had a price increase in the last few days. I think they are $760. These same sandals use to be in the low $400s. The Hermès customer service is questionable.

Regarding books. I started reading consistently last year, but I prefer reading on the Kindle app. I hate clutter, so I don't buy physical copies of books. If I ever get the urge to read physical books, I'll get it from the library.
Lastly, when it comes to sunglasses, I'm the opposite. When I buy luxury sunglasses, I tend to not lose them because I paid way too much money for them. I'm always aware of where they are at all times.

Yes! People often seem to equate lean/skinny with health which is not the case. It doesn't take into consideration that people - men and women - often get softer as the get older, bodies are often built different, more curves does not mean you don't deserve clothes. Megan Thee Stallion is not going to be the same size as a member of Black Pink! Personally I love the Max Mara and Marina Rinaldi split.
I refuse to support any brand that doesn't support POC and poor customer service is an absolute deal-breaker. I am not going to beg to spend my money with people who don't respect me. This year I'm focused on buying BIPOC more than ever.

Athleta is a good exercise clothing brand that is inclusive. I’ve been using it for years. You read books when you are ready. I write the year I bought a book in the cover, so I can see when I read it. Last year I read a book that I bought 14 years ago in Antigua. I needed that book then. It was Pema Chodron - the Places that Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times. This year I picked up bell hooks - Sisters of the Yam: black women and self-recovery, bought in 2005. 😊
