- In this video, we look at how we installed our scissor lift.
From start to finish this takes about four weeks, most of that time, 21 days, is for the cement to cure before you can drill in the holes to attach the lift to the floor and have it torqued down so it can operate safely.

We ordered this lift from Greg Smith equipment in Arizona, but they have other offices around the country

We bought in around 70 bags of cement pre-mix from Home Depot along with the lumber, stone, and re-bar. We set a 4-inch black abs pipe for the plumbing of the lift. We set the pipe against the forms before the pour and it worked out great.

If you only worked on older 911s would you consider mounting the lifts closer together so you have better access to oil and A/C lines? And would you put rubber sheeting on the platforms so you wouldn't have to use the rubber blocks at the corners? I'm thinking here of Jack Olsen's setup. Thanks, love your videos!
Jameel,
So when I installed the lift i did optimize the width to suit the 911 while also keeping in mind that i need to be able to move roll carts and oil drains between the lifting platforms. When it comes to lifting you always want to use blocks and not just sit the entire floor pan on the lift. The lift points on the 911 floor pan are slightly recessed in the front and if you dont use any blocks you can damage both A/C and oil lines. By raising the vehicle above the platforms it also gives you full access to oil and A/C lines.

Great video.
So how do you lift the car if work on the fuel and air on lines are needed?
The car does not sit directly on the lift pads, I use rubber blocks to contact with the lift points and if required I increase the height of the blocks with wooden spacers. This allows me to easily access the lines running down the under side of the car even if they are over the lift pads.
Thanks for watching
How has the lift been for you? I have the same exact one in my home garage. Just looking to see if you've found any weak points - I'm sure you have a lot more use on yours!
I have had it now for over three years and it has not given me any issues at all. And yes it sees daily use.
Kurt
Great video. After a year of use, would you reccomend this hoist?
Yes, absolutely, i have been very happy with it and have had zero issues with it
Klassik Automotive Training School, great to know! Thank you!
Hi Kurt, how tall are you and can you walk under the car upright? 👍
Thanks.
Rich
6' and yes I can walk under the car without ducking.

I’m really considering one these lifts, how much room do you have between the ramps under the car? Would it be enough to drop down a transmission out of a truck or something like that?
The space between the ramps is 31.5 Inches. It is a good size for us. You have the option to set them bigger or smaller within reason. We used their guides and measured the cars we work on.
I'm ready to install this same lift so I'm hoping you can help me. How did you lock the lifts in a slightly raised position in order to set the lift in the holes and connect the lines?
When we installed the platforms into the holes i just used a fork lift and let them extend fully. if you wanted to, you could use a 2 x 4 cut to a length that stops the ramps at the height you want. You would install the block directly under the ramp to stop the scissor arms moving al the way up. Good luck with the install..
I saw another install on Garage Journal where they used ratchet straps around the top of the lifts through the bottom of the scissors. (cinching them onto a lock) I think I'm going to I'm going to try your idea. Thank you very much.
your accents sounds like you've lived in Australia -are you an ex aussie?
