    Hi there! I just found your channel yesterday when searching for how to handle stripped screws. I’ve now watched quite a few of your videos and they are all great! Your content is so easy to understand and follow, super informative, and all kept to a reasonable length. I’d also like to let you know that I appreciate that you aren’t following the same formula as everyone else with the “hey, guys”… “and, be sure to click that ‘like’, ‘follow’”, blah blah blah 😁 … I appreciate that you just get in there and start on the content directly without all that nonsense! But, you’re clever in giving us a “next video” to watch. Love, love, love your channel and can’t wait to watch and learn even more from you!

    I keep some of the 20 minute dry time mud (dry mix) around for fixes like this. If you use warm water it accelerates the dry time a bit. You have to get used to working quicker with it , and working with smaller batches when you mix it. Nice video ...

    I'm a huge fan of the squeeze tube spackle that comes in like a large toothpaste shaped container with tip on it. You can just squeeze however much you need and you dont have all that waste compared to using buckets of spackle. Its also less messy. If you have 300 finish nail holes to fill with spackle, it's definitely faster to use a squeeze tube.

  • @progression_decibel
    @progression_decibel Před rokem +1

    Superb and concise video about hole repair on CZcams! Aside from the Guardz primer on torn paper, what primer did you utilize for priming the spackled/compounded areas before painting? Something like Zinsser 1-2-3?

    • @DaruDhillon
      @DaruDhillon  Před rokem

      Great to hear! I've used Zinsser 1-2-3 before and it works well. Because I get my paint for BM and SW I usually use their primers because the coverage is really good. I tend to invest in primers because it guarantees a good patch and paint job. Step One from BM and multi-purpose from SW. Thanks for the question. I hope your patching goes well! Perfect job to DIY 👍

    • @DaruDhillon
      @DaruDhillon  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I would take a drywall knife and scrape away the peeling paint. Give it a light sand. If the paper is exposed prime it first with proper primer. If not, skim it with a light coat of drywall mud. Let it dry then sand and repeat until smooth. Prime, paint and the patch will disappear. You got this!

    I can actually hear someone in the background, "Dammit, honey stop putting holes in our walls!" I caught the joke about shrinkage in the pool, and all I can say is that's a complete, and total myth! You can't prove that, LOL. All jokes aside though, thank you for your insight with this stuff because it's incredibly helpful. I just wish I knew about it BEFORE I gouged a huge hole in the wall from ripping out one of those drywall anchor screws. Thankfully though, the entire room it's in is going to be my testing room for an almost complete drywall teardown/replacement.
    I want to do the ceiling, and 3 of the walls because the 4th wall will be part of a much bigger reno later down the road. All I have to do is talk my wife into buying a drywall hoist, and a few odds, ends, and materials, and I'll be good to go. Hopefully I don't break the house in the process. Especially since my old nickname used to be "broke it trying to fix it." 🤣

    I always use the handle of a large screwdriver as a kind of nail set like you did. Also I would never use pre mixed mud, as it’s an air dry and could take overnight to dry. Easy sand, or Durabond is a chemical dry, and you can quick dry with a heat gun. But love your videos, you do an excellent job.

      Completely agree about the pre-mixed spackle. It takes hours and hours to dry. And to me, it often has a somewhat rubbery feel to it. Just not as good a texture as the stuff you mix up yourself, which dries much faster.

      Not sure what kind of texture you're looking for, but there's stuff you can buy in a can literally called "Wall Texture" from Homax where you spray it on the wall and, depending on the type of Wall Texture you bought (there are at least two for different looks) it could be the texture you're looking for. The ones I know about are Orange Peel and Knockdown. Be sure to read the instruction before using.

    If you wanted to set your channel apart from the rest, show how to do complete wall repairs for finished walls (which is what 90+% of us are working with). What is always missing is the pre-paint texturing that you almost always find on finished walls. No matter how good your drywall repair and how good your paint matches it will never look right if there is not the same texture on the wall. Most of the time equipment can be rented to do the job, but it does increase the cost. With everything a 1 x 1 foot hole repair was about $150 (which is less than half what a landlord might charge to do the same repair). I have yet to find a channel that mentions this critical element. Otherwise, very helpful video, thanks.
