Don't matter about Ford dodge or Chevy them big 4x4s are awesome
Oh yeah! 😀 thanks for the view and comment Pete! 🙂👍 much appreciated
I agree!
Super cool to have a “porch” to stand on when workin under the hood too lol
@@1966cambo that's true! 😂 it definitely comes in handy for that. I appreciate the view 🙂👍
@@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE YOU SHOULD HAVE DRAIN THE OLD GAS OUT AND PUT FRESH GAS IN THE TANK.GAS DOES TURN INTO WATER AFTER SITTING FOR A LONG TIME
@@cooljohn1977 thanks for the view and comment John! 🙂👍
Man, I don't understand why this thing isn't all over your channel. 177,000 views. This the video that led me to this channel. But...it's just fadeddddd into the background. Discipline and MOTIVATION, young master Zane.
Oh, very true Tyler 🙂👍 Thanks for the comment. Something came apart in the transfer case and the truck kicks in-and-out of 4x4 now 😬 I was told the issue by the previous owner but it didn't act up at first. I'll have to address this eventually. Been taking time from videos to clean up the property and make it easier to make videos in a timely manner. At least that's the plan 🔧🔩 I hope you're doing well my friend. Take care and happy wrenching
"just because it starts up and runs doesn't mean I should take it for a drive... But I'm gonna" 😂😂
LOL thanks Richard! :) I appreciate the view and kind comment
I'm a firefighter in northern Wisconsin and we have an F600 4x4 we still use for wildland fires. It is a very dependable truck.
That's awesome Christopher! 🙂👍 thanks for the kind words
Christopher Mayer we have a 72 f600 4x4 wrecker that was ordered with a 14’ flatbed by lakehead pipeline running through north Wisconsin and up of Michigan for delivering throughout remote areas
@@erickmarkon9337 that is awesome! 😃👍
We had a pair of F500 (I think) 4x4 trucks at the department I was with back in the eighties. The trucks were from 1966 and 1968, and had originally been put into service as brush trucks, complete with PTO-powered "pump-and-roll" front-mounted pumps. By the time I arrived there, we were using them more as engines than brush trucks.
I knew how to drive them, but never really learned the two-lever transfer case setups they had. We had other "beasts of brush" by then to take off road.
@@Just1American1966 I bet those trucks were monsters! 😃. Thanks for the view and comment 🙂👍
The 391 has a forged crank, a higher nickel content block with thicker sleeves and it also has sodium-filled exhaust valves.
I had also read that replacement 428 Cobra Jet blocks were bored out 391 blocks.
One of the ways you can tell it's a 391 block is it has a mirror image 105 at the front of the driver side cylinder Bank.
Thanks for the view and info Bill! :)
Beauty & the Beast all rolled into one! Smart of you to have fire extinguisher handy when trying to start. 👍👏
Thanks for the view and kind comment. I usually try to keep an extinguisher handy. I have a video of starting up a GMC Crane truck that almost immediately caught fire, scary stuff! 😬
COOL LOOKING OLD TRUCK THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR VIDEO WITH US TAKE CARE AND BE SAFE AND WE'LL AND STRONG I AM A FAN OF OLD TRUCKS THANK YOU MY NAME IS ROY HAVE FUN THANKS AGAIN FOR SHARING THE VIDEO HAVE ALL GOOD DAYS AND NITES BE SAFE ROCK AND ROLL FROM ROY💪😇
Thanks for the view and the kind words Roy! 🙂👍 I really appreciate that my friend
This very year of Ford I worked for a very dear friend working my way through college that had one as a dump truck. It was the most reliable in his fleet for hauling and pulling heavy equipment off road. It wasn't a four wheel drive but with a good set of chains I took it everywhere. Best of luck with your project.
Thanks for the view and kind comment Peter 🙂👍 Much appreciated. I'm glad to hear your friends old Ford treated him well. All depends on how you maintain the equipment you use 🔧🔩 Take care
Always a good day bringing old motors back to life.
Thats true Chuck :) Thanks for the view
You seem like a really standup guy I could have a beer with.
Cool trucks too.
Thanks for the kind words Jeff 🙂👍 I truly appreciate that my friend.
I owned a 1979 model same set up with a dump bed. Loved it had big plans for a camper setup , changes I had planned were hydraulic disc brakes , 460 stroker with 5 speed od, brownie box between transmission and transfer case . Problem I had was thinking who's coming to get me out when I get the beast stuck ? Then lost interest. A cummins swap would be perfect , might get better than 6mpg ,
Awesome Dave! 😀 those would have been nice upgrades. Im thinking the same thing..who's going to pull me out when I get this monster stuck?? 🤣. Cummins swap would be awesome. I'm debating now on the power plant. Not sure if I'm going to keep the v8. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate the kind comment as well 🙂👍 take care
What an awesome truck.
Thanks for the view and kind words my friend! 😁👍 Take care
391 has a forged crank and ten thousandths more stroke, thus 391 instead of 390. Heads are different and a few other details to make the 391 an industrial version of the 390. I have an F750 crane truck with air brakes and 47k original miles for picking up logs for my mill. I wanted 4 wheel drive but they are rare birds. Tonka toys.
Thanks for the info! 😃👍 4x4 swapping your crane truck would be incredibly awesome!
We have one like that but its a grain truck when i got my license 3 years ago i had no money so i drove that to school and back every day the thing is bad ass
It done the job though I bet! :) Thanks for the view
Just listening to it crank over reminded me of the truck Dad had.

How nice is that gigantic bumper on the front 😂 plenty of room to work in the engine bay and outside! Glad she fired up, that’s a monster of a truck. Glad to see the fire extinguisher made another appearance.
Thanks James! 🙂👍 the bumper makes a nice platform. Just enough room for a folding chair 🤣
Beauty old truck never find something that old in that good of shape up here
Thanks for the view and comment Luke! :) I'm also surprised on how nice the body is
That truck is stronger and more durable than any Dodge or Chevy of that time
Whoa Jack! I dunno about that LOL. :) Just giving you a hard time my friend. Thanks for the view and comment :)

My Dad bought a 79 F600 brand new, with a navy blue cab and white grill, with a crimson red grain box and white pin striping and white cattle racks. I was 12 years old and I drove it down a gravel road by our farm, brand new, in Alberta looking just over the dash under the steering wheel. We're Canadian but Dad was also a proud American from NY state and a USAAF veteran.

The sound of that sucker firing up the first time is dreamy :D

Hey Zane, I'm a Ford guy, that thing is awesome!!! I remember those trucks when they were new, I started wrenching in 77 or 78 installing Meyer Snow Plows, 5 yard dump boxes, flat beds etc...got into the bigger stuff 7 or so years later, then 3 back surgeries, the doctor told me to find a different career, that's when the automotive testing started....The Lord works in his own way.....it was a blessing!!! God Bless!!!
Thanks Michael 😀. This truck is pretty cool! Gunna start tearing it apart soon 😉👍. I can imagine that kind of job came with a lot of heavy lifting unfortunately. Thats never good. Thanks for stopping by and God bless my friend 🙂🔧
Years ago my Dad bought an FWD snowplow from a neighbor. If I remember correctly it had been used to clear the runways on a military base in the U.P of Michigan. It came with a 12' or bigger straight blade and a massive V plow. It had 14.00x20 24 ply tires on it and had two concrete weights on the back one was 4'x4'x6' and another that was 2'x4'x6'. The tires on that truck were so heavily built that even with all the air let out they still were fully "up" even with those concrete weights on there. The truck was I believe a 1937 and had been changed from the original Hercules straight 6 to a Cummins straight 6. It had been sitting for at least 10 years when we bought it. Dad checked the fluids and the air cleaner then put a battery on it and sent a birds nest about 30' into the air with it. That thing was amazing when it came to moving snow. It had a 4 speed with a 2 speed transfer case and which we left in high. It would push a foot of snow like it wasn't there. We bought it because we lived down a county road which the county didn't take care of at all. They wouldn't even send a bus to come pick me up for school instead I had to walk just over a mile and a quarter to the highway to grab the bus and this being Wisconsin it gets cold occasionally. We used that for plowing until we picked up an old Adams grader and started using that instead. Dad turned that FWD into a 4wd tractor with a 10 speed transmission.
OH WOW! I bet that ole FWD was a *beast!* It would be sooo cool to see pictures of it. My family sadly never took pictures of the machines that were around when I was a kid. Sounds like that truck served your family well! The ole road grader came in handy too I bet. Pretty neat how someone swapped a Cummins into it. Thanks for the view and kind comment my friend :)
Can’t wait for this project!
Thanks! 😀 I think it will be pretty neat. I appreciate the view and kind comment 🙂👍
Absolutely in love with that old truck man. have fun lol
Thanks for the view and kind comment Stephen! :) I really appreciate that. It sure is a neat old truck. Glad you enjoy the project. Take care and be safe
I had a 89 Ford f250 with a 460 in it that sat for six years, new battery in it and it fired right up. Three days later took it for emissions passed better than a Prius.
That's awesome Zaque! 😃👍 you cant beat that!
This could be the ultimate overlanding rig. Kinda like Earthroamer, but cheaper.
It would be awesome to use like that! :) I appreciate the view and kind words
Those old ferds are tanks! You could make something cool out of it.
Thanks Nathan! 😀👍
Yup you right ! Such as a lot of beer caps
that's a nice truck. my 68 F500 was also owned by an electric utility company. the previous owner had passed away five years ago and his widow was ready to sell it. he used it for cruising and maybe going to car shows. that's what i intend to do with it. just enjoy it. i got mine running when i realized the roll pin was sheared in the distributor gear.
That was an easy fix at least! 😀👍
That thing is sweet! Old F600 dump trucks are pretty common around here but i've never seen a 4x4. I want it!
Thanks for the view Shane! :)
I have the 1978 f150 ranger xlt.... My dad's best friend worked at ford and walked through the factory in 1978 and built his own truck with all new parts. 6 months after getting his truck it was tboned and my dad and his friend fixed the frame and put a flat bed steel bed on the ford. We still have this truck it had a factory 400 in it but with 989,784.6? Ish miles on her the old girl bit the dust and went to the farm. So new 390 big block and she is still rolling hard on down the road all these years later. Love my ford it's the only ford I will ever not sale and it's my treasure 😍. Only ford I love I will work on her all day long . But I am a Chevy fan for the last part unless it comes to diesel then it's a Dodge game only unless we talking old truck
That's awesome! :) Glad they fixed it after the wreck. 390 power! Thanks for the comment and view :)
Really cool truck! Excited to see the end product.
Thanks for the kind comment and view 🙂👍 I appreciate that
Now this is something worth fixing! Nice truck!
Thanks for the kind words :) and the view

Thanks for stopping by 🙂👍
Growing up my dad had a 1968 or 69' F-350 4x4 and yeah it was so nice working on it compared to some of the newer models.
Oh I bet! :) Soo much simpler and easier to work on. Thanks for the view and kind comment. Take care
Love the vid and any American made machine. Dodge ford and Chevy. Just be American is all I say
Thanks for the kind words :) much appreciated
That truck is awesome, it has a ton of potential.
Thanks for the view and kind comment! :) Much appreciated
Just subscribed and started on some of your playlist. You bring on some nice rigs, as I am partial to them.... I'm 73 so fit in better. I never really liked the big international engine but that 345 was a workhorse where the 392 would start losing water.... good for water pump issues as the neck was a bit higher on them and a air pocket and problems. They all started on a twist of a key and never failed work real hard for me
Thank you for the kind comment Morgan! :) I really appreciate that. Oh yeah, the 345 is a great engine. We had a flatbed dump when I was a kid. It had the 345 and it *never* failed to start. Even in the freezing cold, few revolutions and it would fire. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Take care and be safe out there!
And all you need is bring your lunch when you're taking the stud out of the carb 😁

Great looking truck , I miss those old stiff gear shifters and clinks and clunks when you shift too. I liked and sub'd .. look forward to some more projects .
Thank you Dallas! That truly means a lot my friend :)
Am kicking myself that I didn’t pick one of these 600’s up. A few years ago they were fairly easy to find for cheap. Had a 1970 crew cab 4x4 I picked up cheap and sold for big money. Now wish I hadn’t sold😕. You have an awesome and unique truck👍
Thanks 🙂👍 I've been there before. I've sold some things and regretted it later 😔 it's not fun. I see it now as a good opportunity to buy something more awesome later on 😉👍
I've done that myself. By something cheap that's cool and then need the money and sell it and afterwards be like "damn I wish I hadn't done that". Oh well can't change the past just learn and move on.
That's a badass truck, I'm looking at a 75 right now with a grain bed
Thanks! 😁 Hopefully you can bring home that '75! Take care 🙂👍
great find! 600 4x4 w/granny low, air and winch...
Thanks Jex! 😀👍

That would be sweet! :) Thanks for the view
I've been looking for essentially that truck for about 15 years
They are hard to find, but they are still out there! :) Don't get discouraged my friend. I really never thought I would find one close to me but did. Only had to drive about 30 miles.
The cab is sweet on this truck! Can’t wait to see her washed! Well you got me. I’m a new subscriber from Italia, Carlo
Thank you! 🙂👍 I truly appreciate that my friend! 🙂
The cab is interchangeable with the f100-f350, 73-79, also the f600 fenders will bolt right up on the f250/350 of this vintage.

Sounds halfway decent! Believe it or not, Ford started producing F600 4x4 in house around '71/'72. Deciphering your VIN will tell you if it was a factory option or not. A lot were still sent out to an upfitter though. Looks like you've got a MICO Lock for your brakes too. Those are quite handy for winching applications.
Oh, I don't know that 😀. Yeah, the previous owner said the lock comes in handy 🙂👍. Thanks Wesley

Also subbed to the other channels you suggested. They seem to be right up my ally of content I like to watch.

This truck would be a good candidate for Seafoam. I’m thinking the valves might be a little crusty and that stuff would clean everything.
🤔🤔...you know what, that's a great idea! 😃👍 thanks for the view and kind comment. I'll have to try that 👍
Seafoam is awesome! Put some in the crankcase and in through the intake. Smarten it right up!
The ol F600 brings back memories for me, when I was 12 my dad bought one brand new in 79, navy blue cab with a crimson red grain box with white pin striping and cattle racks. Red, white and blue. I was wondering when the fire extinguisher was going to show up. It's amazing how some of those old engines will start up after sitting for who knows how long. My convertible ran fine when I got it, but i went through 2 fuel pumps and quite a few filters before i put a new tank on it. You've already got me in trouble, thinking I need a rollback now......
Thanks Jason! 🙂👍 yeah, hopefully I dont have to drop this fuel tank 😕...😂 yes buddy, you *need* a rollback of your own
Badass truck! Love those medium duty rigs, any brand!

Now that is TRUCK!!!!
Thanks for the view 🙂👍
That was hilarious when you pulled out that fire extinguisher!🤣 It’s such a cool truck Zane, and was really surprised that it started up. For being that old it sounds pretty good!😃 I also really enjoyed hearing about the history behind it, because I didn’t know that in order to get 4wd you had to go and get the work done at a separate company. Looking forward to see what you do with it man!🤙
Thanks Cody! 😀 I appreciate it buddy. I'm really surprised it started also. I figured the gas would at least need drained
i wish i had a fire extinguisher when my shit catches fire, happened twice to me already both times i had water luckly. first time i burnt the carb linkage and eit was junk, second time i burned the wires to the hei and dizzy and some other stuff fixed it but it was a pain in the ass
john dowe 🤣 Ya it’s never really “fun” to accidentally burn your property up LOL!
@@ydocproductions5593 yeah man, i made the mistake of putting an undersized fuel filter on (3/8ths on a 1/4 hose) and it caught my shit on fire, good thing i was next to the water hose or else i would have been fooked
john dowe haha I bet that’s a moment you won’t soon forget!🤣
Looks great with those big tires.
Oh yeah! :) Thanks for stopping by
That thing is awesome
Thank you Brian! :)
Really like the old girl! When you clean the points, pull them out of the distributor and use one of those nail files that women use...they work pretty good. By pulling them out you don’t drop little bits of sand down into the distributor.....
Thanks for the view and suggestion Doug :) I never tried a file. That's a good tip!
I damn near hit subscribe as soon as the HPDG got pulled out, haha. Great video dude, love shit like this!

I know he got a extra rockwell independant transfercase with the truck, but i thought he said his had a eaton front and rear end. They were 6 lug, so i may just be remembering wrong. Love the F600, always wanted to build a Super 4X4 Pickup with one of those....on another note I have The exact same "Willy's" as in this video (mine's a 1957 Hercules 4, with original "Willy's" plow, and "Myers" mailman body on it [right hand slider door, but LHD]), same color too (red & rust).....finish your rollback, and I'll give it to you, but fair warning I'm in Ontario Canada.
