They haven’t heard from Rick or michonne in a long time, seems weird to just throw them into the finale.
Up to this day I still believe it would have been such a cinematically successful move to have made Negan go on a frenzy during that scene. Maggie's afraid, time slows down, Daryl shakes Judith, for the first time in a while visually shaken, and suddenly all you hear is Negan saying in an almost unaudible tone "no..not you..not you--NOT YOU!! NOT AGAIN!!" (making reference to his pain after Carl's passing); only to then start shooting and pushing forward, instilling fear into her and forcing her to flee in unregistered fear.
It would have made all of us cry to see him like that, even after everything he's done, and it would have made other scenes, such as the one between him and Maggie at the end where they finally begin to make paces for the past, all much more sense
Maggie's face is like "I did not kill Lori for no reason, Judith needs to live." And Negan is like "There are lines we do not cross such as we don't shoot kids."

I have a theory that Judith is really Ricks biological kid because all of the Grimes have been shot atleast once. How many times has Shane been shot? 0 times. Also look at the eye colors, Rick has blue eyes, Lori had hazel eyes, and shane had brown eyes. Judith has hazel-green eyes. Now, my dad has blue eyes just like Rick, and my mom the hazel eyes. I have hazel green eyes like Judith. So taking this into account, and ignoring what the creators of the show may have said (because theyre wrong and a bunch of dumbasses) Rick is the biological father of Judith.
The fact that they casted baby Judith as ambiguous and then Alexandria Judith looks like she could’ve been Shane’s to straight up just saying fuck it and casting a kid that looked like a full on grimes kid and then following the inadvertent tradition of the grimes family attracting bullets lol.
