Shortly after the events of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There" is set the story of "Alice" by American McGee. Her house is mysteriously set alight, and Alice is the only survivor. With severe survivors guilt and claiming it was all her fault, she, a year later, is sent to Rutledge Asylum, where she has hallucination of her "Wonderland".

This game series needs to be written as a book trilogy: 1) _"McGee's Alice";_ 2) _"Alice: Madness Returns"_ and finally, 3) _"Alice: Asylum"._

Although a planned PlayStation 2 port was cancelled, the game later released digitally for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

I used to play this game when I was a teenager. I came back to remember the amazing script in the trailer and I realize everything is like adult life... "Toys became weapons" "Friends become a foe". So, this game was like a coach future life :)

Joke or not, I am with this guy. Blew my mind when i would play this and only seen pictures in a magazine up to this point in my life.
I'm am still pissed off due to the fact that an adaptation of this game planned in 2001 was canceled. Wanna know why? The guy who was supposed to direct it was Wes Craven. Fuck.

Universal Pictures canceled that adaptation, like they also canceled Guillermo Del Toro's In The Mountains Of Madness and Gore Verbinski's BioShock movie... COWARDS!!

Honestly one of the most haunting parts of the trailer seeing the Hatter go from a cheerful yet odd tea lover to a full blown sadist.
The red band card in the beginning of the video is inverted and reads: *The following preview has been rated really wicked with jaws that bite and claws that catch and vorpal bades that snicker-snack!*
The Lower one reads: *This teaser is rated really wicked by the red queen's croquet club of wonderland*
i liked the scene about friends becoming foe, i love stories where the people you think were there to help were actually never there to help at all, but to destroy and tear you down

I love how she isn't really "Alice" from Alice in Wonderland. She was just a girl who happened to be named Alice. Then her favorite book also by coincidence turned out to be Alice in Wonderland. A traumatic event that brutally killed her entire family broke her. As a small young child, the fear, sadness, survivor's guilt, and confusion were so severe her mind couldn't handle it and so she went insane. Having memories of the stories from the book, her subconscious and insanity blended together with all of the characters and events from the book and so she dreams, hallucinates, and lives in a hellish version of Wonderland.
That is...not accurate. It is the same Alice from the books.
What are you talking about? There's only one Alice. This game takes place seven years after the events of the book.
Yeh like... This is not about her trying to be the girl from the book. This is about the non sugar-coated stories of the characters that make up Alice as a whole. All characters in wonderland are fragments of her.
Um she is the real Alice from the books. At least that's how the game implies it to be.
The animated style looks liek something straight out of "Hoodwinked", XD. But American "Mcgee's Alice" and "Alice Madness Returns" are both masterpieces without a doubt.

Remember when I Bought Alice Madness Returns for Xbox 360 and I got American McGees Alice "free". I thought that AMR was great and then BAM they fucking throw me this in the face, i think i like AMA more...

Check on IMDB. The main Actress who voices Alice is Susie Brann and Roger L Jackson voices the Cheshire Cat & Jabberwocky. 👌
I played it when it came out. Mind bending stuff at the time, a troubled alice trapped in a dark, psychotic world, with only her wit, sarcasm and a few toys to defend herself, and a dodgy af Cheshire cat. Very enjoyable game and tbh I think it inspired other alice-creators more than we like to think. The victorian world was a dark place for those getting treated for mental health issues and that seems to be exposed a lot in this game.

I have this game for Microsoft Xbox One as Alice Madness Returns. I played it for the first time since December 2022. It looks very good.
I always love Alice in Wonderland and it is my most favourite children's novel of all time.

I've never played this game or seen this trailer before but although it has aged, the latter still looks damn impressive even after 13 years. Spiked jacks eh? Awesome!
Madness Returns is such a good game and too underrated I think; I just wished EA would release more games like these instead of sports games over and over again cos something different or another Alice game sequel wouldn't hurt. It's a shame we won't get one but looking forward to the Otherlands series all the same. :)
If you have just started playing it wait until you get to the part with the asylum it gave me nightmares.

You know, I like to believe that Bumby didn't just throw the lamp to the fireplace (I'm not american, I don't know how you say "lareira" in english) like Alice believes he did, since that doesn't fit the intro of the first game. I like to believe that Bumby, after abusing Alice's sister, he saw the library and realized that the place was indeed a fire trap. So, he put the lamp close to the fireplace, he grabed Alice's sleepy cat (she neither woke up nor attacked him, because he acquired Lizzie's smell after raping her), put her on the book shelf that was most likely to, if the books fell, knock over the lamp release its inflamible liquid into the fireplace, and discreetly woke her up, quickly geting out of the house right after that.
I hope the first two games will get another port when asylum comes out.

Why does in Asylum, Alice have red-brown hair instead of black hair like in Madness Returns
Because in the first game (the one that comes with this trailer), her hair is brown in the promotional art and a bright red in the game itself.
They wanted her to look more mature and “darker” in Madness Returns. In this game Alice is still a child while she was an older teen in Madness.

American McGee's Alice has a rather simple story compared to Madness Returns, so I don't think you'll get confused!

You can get it on Madness Returns with your download code that came with the game. If it's no longer available, you can buy it off whatever store suits for platform.
If you'd like a physical copy, they are no longer in production. Ebay or amazon is your best bet!
I started playing Alice: Madness Returns yesterday. That one's pretty creepy. If you want a creepy Alice horror game, try out that one. But this one's a horror game too by the look of it.

I have a question why does the trailer the intro and the endings graphic quality looks different to that Of the in-game cutscenes and gameplay
That's because in 90s and very Early 00s at the time games weren't capable of looking exactly like this due to the technical limitations of time. 3D video games were still in their early years Plus it was still a novel concept at that time. The trailers and cutscenes with this style are simply made as a type of cinematic in a way as those models don't actually exist in the game files they're just tiny little films that the player can watch.
