Welcome to the official CZcams channel of The Monkees, home of 60s chart-topping hits âLast Train To Clarksville,â âIâm A Believerâ and âDaydream Believer,â as well as multi-platinum, #1 albums âThe Monkees,â âMore of the Monkees,â âHeadquartersâ and âPisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.â
Monkee-mania began in Los Angeles in 1965 when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, the late Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones were cast in the eponymous television series about a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatlesâ A Hard Dayâs Night. The quartet brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway and country to their resulting music. By the time the series aired its final episode on March 25, 1968, The Monkees had sold 16 million albums and 7.5 million singles. Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

Never been more happy to be called Magdalena...beautiful song xxxx
czcams.com/video/jvIQtiK8aoY/video.html
It's a beautiful name!
Sleep well, Michael Nesmith -- and thank you for this lovely performance as well as all your other work, whether solo or in a group. I'm glad you and the remaining Monkees were given the time and support to create your 2016 "Good Times!" album. It was a fine way to say good-bye to us.
Iâm certain, like on earth, Michael is not asleep in the hereafter.
He did accomplish more during his life than most!
RIP Papa Nes
He's not asleep. He's dead. He's not going to wake up.
All gone now except one. I love their music. Exceptional group of men. Rest in peace, my Monkees.
Most underrated Harmonies EVER. When Micky and Mike sang on a song together it was pure magic! This song only proves my point.
Mickey and Mike are the greatest and most beautiful pair of voices in âpopâ history.
Right on, Man!
@@andrewmalenda199thatâs some statement
36 weeks pregnant with our Magdalena. â€ïž Canât wait to see her - in any light.
OlĂĄ! Como estĂĄ a Magdalena? Eu espero que bem! Um grande abraço! đđđđđ
Mike and Micky harmonizing in 2016. Life is good.
A-men to that.
David Kaplan -..Mickey and Mike always excellent vocals. Dolenz one of the great sixties pop vocalists.
............... They survived it.
Heaven
I still can't believe it. And on a song this perfect.
Man Im from a damn third world country Sri Lanka. But damn I'm damn happy that this kind of western music is still recorded. What music đ
Goodbye Michael, thank you for all the beautiful music, you will never be forgotten
RIP Mike, a huge part of my childhood and lead vocals on this utterly beautiful song.
RIP Mike Nesmith. Such a great voice
Ben Gibbard really outdid himself with this song
Harry indeed
Yup!!
The fact he gave it away is amazing. To be honest, I would too!
it said something that he let someone else record it
All of other recording artists can stop now. The perfect song has been recorded.
True enough.
I totally agree. I cannot stop listening to it. It is like Micky is still 21 in this song.
Could not agree more with you. This song is perfection. Sadly, I never liked their music before. but this- This is magic and purity.
I couldn't agree more Tammy...listening now for the 3 millionth time :) In my opinion this recording is one of the greatest ever made.
This song makes me ugly cry but I can't quit it
its 2016 and the best album of the year is by...........the monkees
i would not have guessed that
rockhard, Right!
Six months later, it's still the #TRUTH
I lost my beloved cat, Medea Magdalena yesterday. This comes up in my newstream. I will take it as my sign.
sorry for your loss
So sorry.
Pets dying from the embarrassment of being given ridiculous names is getting all too familiar. We must spread the word to make people aware.
Uncool Sam.
Magdalena is a beautiful and forgotten name :)
Why is it that I can't get enough of this song?
Because it's so freaking AWESOME!!!
It's sooo beautiful
I'm just discovering it right now & am about to start my 3rd time listening. It's gorgeous. Timeless.
Because itâs beautiful
I've had it on repeat for years now
The Monkees album was just selected by Rolling Stone Magazine Readers as the #5 album of the year! Congrats to Mike, Micky, Peter and Davy(wherever you are).
Rest in peace Mike. Send Davy and Peter our love.
Two of the most wonderfully familiar voices from the past. I was 10 then and now I am 59. What a trip full circle to hear this.
55 when I first heard this
I'm 59. I grew up on the Monkees. Mike and Micky are as much a part of me as my right arm.
Paula Ford, the memory of love and tenderness as the years go by makes your heart ache.
Me too!! I'm 59 in 3 mos. I remember asking my neighbor, a year older than me, what his favorite Saturday morning show was and he replied: "That one with the monkeys," which I heard as 'Than one with the Monkees." Turns out he meant "Lance Link: Secret Chimp.' I liked The Monkees better.
They are wonderful voices for all these years
âEverything lost will be recovered when you drift into the arms of the undiscoveredâŠâ
That line is worthy of Dylan.
Made me cry with hope when I heard this line
There's nothing better than Nez singing lead and Micky singing harmony. I will be listening to this on a continuous loop for the foreseeable future.
Agreed. but do check out this live version with Peter (God Rest his soul) and Micky. czcams.com/video/bwsaZRzNuSo/video.html
Just discovered this song. So beautiful. Enigmatic. Many thanks to Mr. Nesmith & Mr. Dolenz for such comforting harmony. â€
"Everything lost will be recovered - when you drift into the arms of the undiscovered"
I đ love you Charissa Gibbins.
I had an Aunt named Magdalena who passed away a few years ago and it was a dark time for my family. My mom showed me this song and it really kept me sane through everything. At the funeral I learned she lived such an amazing life. This song is a special one to me
Praying for your Grandmother, you, and your family.
In my opinion, this is best song the Monkees ever recorded, written by Ben Gibbard. The melody is soft and gentle like a warm summer breeze, and the lyrics speak to the heart. A work of art.
@@gemmabuzzerio1832 You are completely wrong. They co-wrote about half of their songs like Sweet Young Thing (Goffin King and Nesmith) from the first record and wrote many themselves Papa Gene's blues (Nesmith), also from the first record or Pete's Song (Tork) from the second. Also, Nesmith had authored hit songs (see Different Drum, Linda Ronstadt) prior to joining the Monkeys.
@@instantkarma1511 Check your facts indeed. Ben Gibbard the co author of this song wasn't even born until 1974.
You obviously don't know them well enough then because Mike wrote so many songs have you never listened to his solo music or even his songs from monkees
@@gemmabuzzerio1832 Unless you count "Mary, Mary," "Randy Scouse Git," "For Pete's Sake," "Papa Gene's Blues," "The Girl That I Knew Somewhere," and a couple of dozen others. Dope.
Absolutely Dave
perfect beautiful song . i couldn't be happier with the new album. i get to be 26 and experience a perfect new monkees album like my mom did fifty years ago
That's really cool.
You make me feel old, lol! I discovered these guys when I was almost seventeen, and I'm thirty-eight
me too, only 14 and I can still continue life with the joyous and beautiful music of the Monkees
Well, I discovered them when I was 9ish in the mid-'70s in afternoon reruns in Cincinnati. Now I just turned 55.
Sameeee
What an incredible song. And the "bonus" alternate version is equally highly recommended. RIP Michael Nesmith 12/9/21; as a friend called him, The Monkees' one-man Lennon & McCartney.
Is Mike the lead singer on this song?
â@@mblmbl1574 Yes, and Micky singing background on this one. RIP our beloved Papa Nez.
@@mblmbl1574 I believe that he is.
Mike was always my favourite when I was growing up. RIP
Mike died 12/10/21
Show of hands.... who else tears up on this song? I have NO idea why, but it happens EVERY time...
RIP Michael Nesmith đ and thank you for the beautiful songs you left in this world đđâ€
This may just be the most beautiful recordings in the history of popular music. Made by what was once regarded as a fictitious musical group that turned themselves into legitimate music legends. RIP Papa Nez, Peter Tork, & David Jones.
SO glad Mike finally learned to appreciate Monkees fame and Monkees fans! RIP Mike.
This is legitimately one of the most beautiful songs of all time, by anyone.
Written by Death Cab for Cutie.
Amazing collab. Simply amazing.
Literally one of the most gorgeous songs Iâve heard in years.
Godspeed Michael Nesmith. Into the undiscovered...
Been a Monkees' girl since I was four..50 yrs and counting.
The only thing that could make this album better, would be Davy.
dearest love to my guys, all four.
Actually they did include Davy leading on a unreleased song. And it's spectacular.
+TheTrusouldj I'd read that they added a song posthumously.
I'm sure you understand that I meant because Davy is no longer here.
But thank you.
Interesting. Thanks!
I can imagine the Everly Brothers singing this...its that good and the harmonies are spot on!
Yes. Love the Everly Brothers. Or Simon and Garfunkel.
Wake up little Susie!
I'm never going to get the three-plus minutes listening to this song back.
Seldom have I been more OK with that than I am right now.
My god.... what a beautiful, beautiful song.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written
50 years later Mike Nesmith's voice still does it for me. Love this.
This song makes me fall in love with music all over again. This is the only album release I've cared about so far this year and this song is nothing short of a gift from the heavens.
nailed it!
Yes, truly sublime.
This and Version 2 are the best songs on what I think is a huge short fall from their original albums. If this is the only album release you liked so far you are not listening. Check out these three new songs, The Getaway, Dark Necessities and We Turn Red from the new Red Hot Chili Pepper Album, The Getaway. It has a totally new fresh sound for them with pianos, synthesizers and female back up singers, combined with that classic Chili Pepper Sound. Great Stuff.
I love the new Monkees album from start to finish and have never been a fan of RHCP, so the comparison is completely meaningless.
I'm with you, Craig. I've heard quite a few gems this year. But some people are stuck in their old ways. Funny you should mention the Chili Peppers. I've been listening to a lot of their catalog today, after watching the Carpool Karaoke bit from the Late Late Show!
Even after 50 years, the harmonies are still perfect! Thanks Michael and Micky.
Love the Micky and Nez harmonies.
Michaelsounds beautiful, even after all this time. There's something about his voice that is just indescribable to me. And paired with Micky's voice.. It's like heaven on earth đ
what is it? his voice has something. transports me to another place. loving Micky's harmonies here too!!!
Veeygwoob
This is a great song. I also love Mikeâs singing in âDonât Call on Meâ. Ooooo!
My name is Magdalena! â€ïž
beautiful name
Hauntingly beautiful - such gorgeous harmonies by Mike and Micky whose voices are in great form. The depth of this group's catalog never ceases to amaze me, and their talent is limitless. That's why they are still going strong at 50 years.
Hauntingly, yup.
To such extent, it should feature in the remake of Twin Peaks
Another gem. Beautiful harmonies, instrumentation and lyric. Ben Gibbard penned a total Papa Nez flavored tune right here. I am so thrilled for the success of the new record.
pure Nez
yes it looks like he had only limited participation. unfortunately
can't wait to play this while driving through the country side in the summer!
YES!
I just picture seeing the summer sun going down while this plays.....pure peace
JPenoCheddy This and Nick Drakeâs Pink Moon are perfect Summer driving songs.
This and Don Henleyâs Boyâs of Summer.
Exactly
I feel blessed to hear Dolenz and Nesmith harmonizing once again on a new studio recording...really, deep thanks, Mickey, Michael and Peter for doing it one more time. Best to you and yours.
brings me to tears...~
Beautiful harmony Mickey Dolenz. Just beautiful
Me & Magdalena. Brilliant new Monkees' Song! Michael on lead vocal with Micky providing harmony.
God this is good.
Totally agree...great great song have it on repeat last.few days!!!...can hear death cabs influence on this song ...Ben wrote this for mike to sing...perfect !!!
Sublime. Perfect. I love this song.
I have Ben Gibbard opinions but for this three and a half minute song, I set them aside. What a beauty.
I canât get over how perfect this song is.
Nesmith doesn't put out a ton of material but when he does it is genius.
Any thing Mike nesmith does has his name written all over it, I mean that in a good way
Actually written by Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie
@@russellmoore2962 its not even his song
@@joebloggs8636 When Nez sang it, it became his.
This is a tear inducing beauty...I'm totally floored by how emotional it made me feel on the very first listen..x

Same here. So incredibly beautiful
Same here â„ïž
God damn I regret not seeing them live a few months ago. The Monkees are fun but I really looked up to Mike as an artist. RIP
I was born in 1965, and remember watching The Monkeys on Saturday morning after cartoons were over. I loved their wacky show and their awesome music. Mickey Dolenz was my favorite in the band, I thought he was sooo cute. Lol. Iâm so very thankful to have been born and lived through the last half of the 60âs and 70âs and got to experience the best times in Rock-N-Roll music. The 80âs and 90âs had some pretty good music too, but not as much as the earlier decades did.
I can relate. Born in '62 (Dec.27, might as well have been '63). Grew up amongst Beatles fans (and became one too). This song, and others, showcased their talent. I liked the show. I tried wearing my snow cap like Mike in class one day in 2nd grade, but my teacher made me take it off. My sister preferred Monkees over Beatles, but she was just going by cuteness (still don't know who she liked the most- probably Dolenz).
Beautiful. RIP Nez.
Heard this for the first time while driving with my grandkids.. had to stop and listen ..they said"grandpa, why are you crying?"
That's how beautiful this song is
Same here. This song brings me to tears, it's so beautiful.
So good to hear this sound again. Making me smile and cry at the same time..
Dreamy. Like so many Monkees songs, just makes you feel warm inside. I couldn't have been happier with the whole album.
This, my friends, is why I love The Monkees. So beautiful. I can't stop replaying this! :)
Really great song! And some great memories!
This is probably the sixth time I've listened to this song today. Hello, new favorite Monkees album.
This is probably one of the best songs these guys ever did.
Amazing. Truly one of The Monkees' best. Summer 2016 just got that much better.
This is just the most beautiful song I've ever heard. I cannot stop listening to it
I am crying now I did not know they came out with a new CD I been a Monkees fan like forever when I was a kid they started showing them on MTV back in 85-86 and man I was like 6 or 7 at the time and just loved them my 1st crush was Mike I loved the cute hat he had on. My mom at the time got me there greatest hits record and I played it so much when I got older I started buying all the CD I could find of them I got a lunch boxes and bobble head dolls and the monkees bears that came out. So to see a new CD out is just awesome.
I just realized that my grandmother's name, my mother's name, and my name have all been recorded as Monkees' songs. I, however, am the only Monkees fan out of all three. My mom was their age but she liked classical music
Love that! But donât leave me hanging⊠presumably itâs Magdalena and Who and Who Else? đ

@@slbarbieri1725 Off to re-visit Monkees catalog! â€ïž
This song can very well pass as an Indie-rock song. It's my favorite track on "Good Times".
you know Ben Gibbard wrote it, right?
their best song from the modern era. mike and micky blend so well together vocally and the simplicity of this song makes it so much more perfect
Finest song I have heard in years - delighted it is from Mike and Mickey. Had it on repeat for 2 days now - "Do you see your long lost father? does he hold you in the hands you remember as a child?" My god - stunning - am lost for words, so I just will listen to this for days x
i forgot i had this on an old playlist. man it just clawed my heart right out when Mike began singing....
i met one of my best friends because of the monkees (way back in AOL days, 1997-ish when we were both kids) we never met face to face but she and i kept in touch through all these years. used to call each other and talk all night and into the dawn until the portable house phone would start bleeping because of their low batteries. I always wished i could take her to school with me just so i'd have a friend who loved the same things i loved.
the day Mike passed away she sent me a message to let me know (i'd turned off my social media at that point)
what's really odd is how i thought i'd heard every single one of his songs. but this one escaped my notice until fairly recently. i think it might be my favorite.
This is legitimately beautiful.
RIP sweet Michael.
How did I miss this? I grew up with the Monkees. Love the album cover too. Will definitely by the LP, CD, Stream.
Love to the Monkees. Davey RIP- you were my fave. Love Madeleine aka Madgalena.
I can't keep almost crying to this song. One of these days I'm just going to start sobbing.
Such a beautiful song, Maria xx
wow, this is gorgeous
This album got totally overlooked. It's a great example of how actually good the Monkees are....
I love this song so much. If this was the ONLY song the Monkees ever released, they would still qualify as one of the best rock and roll groups alive. Absolutely beautiful vocals. Perfection.
This is another great song from the new upcoming album due out on the 27th and its just wonderful to have MR WOOL HAT Mike N back on the vocals with Micky. I grew up with these guys and This music proves they are a real group making real music not just a bunch of noise.
He died today. I love this song, and tho I never knew him personally, I feel like I have lost something very personal...
Same. đ
Ok sorry for another post but I just have to say... listening to Mike in 67 thru even to just now and he always, ALWAYS, hits that "A" like it's a respected full on word and not just a slick toss-away letter.
Love this song! Mike and Micky singing together is always Beautiful
My baby daughter's name. I know I will be listening to this beautiful song for the rest of my life, and always thinking of her. Thanks, The Monkees and Ben Gibbard. Really appreciate your artistry here.
Great voices. Mickey Dolenz in his 70s still has one the best, most underappreciated voices of our time.
My younger brother passed away 2 weeks ago. As a child he was a big Monkees Fan. Thank God he got to hear this album and this tune 4 years ago. He was blown away by the fact these old performers/musicians, in their freakin' 70's, had gone into the studio with songwriters and past recordings unreleased, and some of their own tunes, and managed to kick everyone's butt on their own terms one last time. Still Rolling Stone Magazine, after all these years, still insisted on only giving them 3.5 out 5 stars based on the stale myth that these guys are a fake band. Yeh, just like all the singers and bands that used the "Wrecking Crew", including the Beach Boys, Sony, Sonny and Cher, and the Byrds, many others. They never started out as band, just a TV show about a band. But Rolling Stone Magazine and others, basically yelled "Crucify them, crucify them." They stepped up to the plate, became a performing band, and had to fight like hell to play their own instruments / get their own songs recorded on the 3rd album Headquarters. Two of them had to learn to play instruments, and all 4 had to rehearse every night while shooting the TV show during the day. Now look what you have today...computerized music...."fake sounds" produced by a computer and talking (rap) instead of melody and harmony half the time. My only regret is I did not take the initiative with my brother to get him to the Monkees concert with Mike, Peter and Micky when they came within 80 miles of our respective homes.
The remaining Members of the Monkees and their writing team have created a " MASTERPIECE " in my opinion, with this haunting version of " Me & Magdalena ". It is truly Incredible. I am in tears when I listen to it and think about my lost love. I never knew how good these guys really were, and at 52 its about time. M.M.
Found this song a few years back. A little sad time in my life. Loved it. Couldn't believe it was monkees.
Michael is awesome! Monkees Fan since 1968 as a young one!
I truly feel this album is one of their best since "Headquarters"! It's so nice to hear Mike's voice - strong and pure....
what is it? yes, pure is a good word. simple, unaffected, honest.. I could listen to it a million times. and micky's harmonies on top of that purity, it's divine!
Rest in peace Peter Tork.
This Monkee's LP has been like a breath of fresh air. A welcome listen to the start of what could be an amazing summer of music, HEY HEY its the Monkees Again!
So lovely, I've actually got a lump in my throat as I listen.
RIP Mike. Still grieve for Davy. RIP Peter.
Ricky sent me here, too. Mickey's plaintive keening, and MN's world-weary, gentle sadness is haunting. Wonderful performances on a great song. Thanks, Ricky Gervais!
hard to come up with the words to describe how great that guitar sounds. Mike and the guys were a joy in 1966 and 2016 and everywhere in between. It's been a difficult day but the nice comments below are some comfort.
I must have listened to this song at least 100 times today. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!
RIP Papa Nezđąđ......this song.......I already couldn't listen to it's haunting beauty from an association 5 years ago...bitter bitter sweet memory. Now it's even harder. But someday when I really need to just feel it all...I'll grab a box of tissues and wail.
These lyrics are painfully beautiful. "Does he hold you with the hands you remember as a child." "Everything lost will be recovered when you drift into the arms of the undiscovered." But I wonder how will they do this song in concert without Michael??
RIP Mr Nesmith
RIP Mike.
