I was looking to buy a Kia carnival with all your videos and I just purchased me a 2022 Kia Sorento ! I feel like it’s a baby carnival so I’m super happy ! Thanks for keeping us informed ! You were the helping hand in my purchase here in the states ! ❤️
Awesome! Thanks for watching! I hope you'll subscribe as we'll have plenty more videos on your vehicle including a series that we call "Kia Hyundai Classes" which are designed to help you learn your vehicle.
Another great video! The only thing I really think the Santa Cruz is missing, because of the size, is parking sensors. If the parking camera came on automatically below 15km/hr, like they did in my old Tacoma, I probably wouldn't miss it. Either way I still love the Santa Cruz!
There is a button to turn the cameras on at low speeds. I use it regularly.
Good for you about the insulters. Too bad adults can't be adults.
But--I will be getting my black premium santa cruz in a couple of weeks. I'm so excited about this "trucklet". I presently drive a 1989 Nissan Hardbody 4x4 truck. What a joy to drive this vehicle.
Wow! That sounds exciting! Let us know how you like it!
I really enjoy your reviews and comparisons! Very detailed and informative. You have definitely helped me in my car buying experience. Much appreciated! Keep it up!
Thanks for another great video. My wife and I have owned two Tucson Limiteds, a 2007 and a 2017. We bought a Santa Cruz Limited and love it! It replaced my twenty year old Dodge Dakota. Your videos helped me decide on the Santa Cruz. It's not perfect. Why no power passenger seat in the Limited version? Does the Tucson have a power passenger seat? I know our 2017 Tucson Limited does. Thanks again for your videos.
That's a great point. I'm almost positive that the Tucson does have one. I wonder if they cut some things out of the Santa Cruz because they were knowingly releasing it during the chip shortage. Things like the start stop system that can turn the engine off at stoplights isn't on this model, and that's very rare. Perhaps the passenger seat isn't powered in order to avoid using a chip? I'm not sure how these things work, but I wonder if that's part of it.
A really nice comparison! The teddy test for boot space vs bed was surprising, I did not know the Tucson had that much room. Tucson is definitely becoming a more logical option with the preferred trim price difference too.
The Tucson is a great vehicle! I'm a big fan of it!
I've had a 22 Tucson for about 2 weeks now and I love it!
@@jsilverchannel It's a great vehicle!
I plan on buying the 2023 Santa Cruz .. hopefully they have a hybrid version. ( i own an Ioniq now and love it but its sooo low to the ground. Im 6’4”). Have you heard anything about a canopy for the SC? I plan to put my dogs back there.
Nice review Peter thanks for sharing. Love the Hyundai products they just seem like they have so much more premium materials/technology then the Kia products. In the USA, people usually start with Kia, move up to Hyundai and finish with Genesis. You have a really nice vehicle, I think you will be happy with it. We see a lot of the Santa Cruz in the USA, they are very common around here along with the Ford Mavericks.
Yeah, I'm not sure if it's that the Hyundai products are nicer, or just that the latest releases by each company are excellent. The Tucson is great, but the next Sportage which is about to be released steps it up again with 12 inch screens instead of the 10 inch screens on the Tucson. whoever releases the latest product seems to be the one that stands out to me.
Great review. I got 4 year old, a husky and a 2nd baby on the way - I was sold on the Santa cruz but I worry about the dog space now.
The Santa Cruz isn't going to be the best vehicle for two kids in the back with a husky. You didn't mention anything about a partner... if you can ditch your partner and keep the husky, you'd probably be fine, but I don't recommend that. :)
@@BrantfordKialol yeah wife included. I can always have the husky in a strapped in crate in the back I guess
@@ighicedeamon Yeah, if your dog is fine with traveling outside, it might work better, but it's still pretty windy back there, so it would be up to you if it works for you. It's the type of vehicle that's worth a test drive to see if it works for you! I absolutely love mine, but I've always been clear that it's not for everyone.
@@BrantfordKia ohh I did thr test drive in Orangeville- loved it. It was the base + upgrade model. I kind of want the Ultimate.
Can I get the leather package in the hybrid Tucson hybrid
I will never understand why Hyundai did not put memory seats in the SC other then maybe due to the chip shortage. I assume at some point the hybrid powertrain will come to the SC. The Maverick's standard hybrid is basically going to force Hyundai to address this. My current theory is they wanted to keep the SC's payload and tow rating as high as possible out of the gate.
The lack of the rear seat arm rest on the SC is silly, how times do you carry 3 people back there vs 2 people who could share an arm rest?
Thank for mentioning the parking sensors - many new SC owners are disappointed to learn they don't get any beeps in reverse. With no Smart Park I guess Hyundai just figured you would use the excellent 360 camera system.
So I think you're on to something with the lack of memory seats. The Santa Cruz also doesn't have the start stop tech that many vehicles have where the car turns itself off at stoplights. That feature usually requires a chip and I think that played a role in why the Santa Cruz may be equipped like it is. Also, my understanding is that the subwoofer is in the seatback and that's why there is no armrest. That preserves the under seat storage section while also giving the premium audio that people would expect at this price.
@@BrantfordKia glad the SC doesn’t have start stop. The tiny subwoofer is behind the drivers side rear seat, based on pictures I don’t think it would interfere in anyway with an arm rest.
Love to ask Hyundai some questions regarding why and how the vehicle got equipped as is.. Compromises had to be made but it would be interesting to hear the logic behind those calls.
@@johnmoore3504 Yeah, sometimes I'll ask those questions but they won't always say. A lot of the time, they're just trying to hit a price point to sit within the brand's lineup, sometimes it's about hitting a point to compare with other cars, sometimes it's parts availability. There are a lot of factors at play. Sometimes it's as simple as the team who decides just decided to make the decision based on what they feel is necessary.
I completely agree with you on the lack of a rear seat armrest, for me this makes the Santa Cruz buying decision as we tend to use that fold down armrest a lot in our current vehicles
@@StraightOtohGunga Again, I don't know why one isn't there, but I think for most people, it won't be a make or break feature. I would have liked one, but my kids are fine with things as they are, and even if they're not, they can be bribed :)
I love the look of both vehicles, but I bought a Tucson because it better suits my needs. I've never owned a truck, never needed the capability of a truck.
Oh, if you don't need the capabilities of the truck bed, or the higher towing capacity, than the Tucson is absolutely the better vehicle for you! It's a great vehicle!
Awesome review Peter! im wondering if both santa cruz and tucson share same front axle as they are built over the same platform? I want to purchase a salvage santa cruz with a broken axle, trying to figure out if its possible to be repaired since its a 2022 vehicle. Or if Hyundai has the piece replacements for sale. They don’t sell the car in my country and buying a new one+import and taxes its out of my budget.
I don't know the specifics of the part numbers. The Santa Cruz does have a wider track, but just be aware that right now, today, trying to get parts for something like that may be difficult. There are parts shortages in the same way that there are vehicle shortages, and newer vehicles are going to be the ones with the least amount of parts available.
Great Job Pete!!
Thanks for watching!
Did you buy hitch aftermarket?
Curious...but do either come with a spare tire? I know it's a debatable topic, as some believe it's not necessary, due to the infrequent times one would have a flat tire.
The Santa Cruz does for sure, and I believe the Tucson does as well.
Would love to hear your experience with the hitch situation. After all my research I'm terrified to begin to process of getting one purchased when my SC arrives.. wish I could've gotten it done via the dealership but they said they could not.
I don't understand what the issue is? I ordered my hitch from the dealer, it was installed before I picked up the vehicle. I have 4 pin wiring installed, but I don't have 7 pin wiring installed yet because we're waiting to see if Hyundai will have a factory option. If they don't have a factory option here in Canada, (they seem to have one on American vehicles) than I'll get the 7 pin done at a shop near our place. I'm told that the taxes in price will be $230 for the 7 pin wiring at the aftermarket shop. To me, it's a not an issue. Maybe I'm missing something?
@@BrantfordKia Oh fantastic for you, that sounds so much easier! And congrats again.
My wife and I have leased two sets of Hyundais over the last six years at the same dealership. Told my local dealer two months ago what we wanted and didn't hear much back other than see you in December. Came in to sign papers at lease end and were told they did not have the vehicles. We asked about getting them in and were told we were being difficult for not wanting to buy vehicles they had on lot and that we needed to drive somewhere else to buy. So we left of course.
Drove to neighboring state and found an incredible sales rep and wrapped paperwork on exactly what we wanted, 2022 Santa Cruz Limited & Santa Fe Limited, and had paperwork done in less than an hour. The vehicles are arriving next week. (Excited!)
However, they say they can do nothing for the hitch/tow package and as a courtesy the salesman is supposed to be sending me info to try and find online or locally.
Going to see about finding it all myself and talk to some trusted friends about workshops they recommend for installation.
Part of what I love about the SC is that it is pretty much the whole package with very little to be changed or added to have a very capable vehicle. I am blown away that the hitch is not already installed or at least able to be added on at official dealerships from day one so that customers don't have to go through this. Hoping it's worth it!
(I know this is nothing to do with you obviously, but I hope this anecdote helps or motivates your own people! Lol. )
@@ashtonchilds Wow, that's quite the process! I'm sorry to hear that's your experience... I had no idea. As I said, it was super simple for me.
Any chance they will come out with a volume control for the hybrid back up horn, its unnecessarily loud most of the time.
I'm assuming that you're American? I've heard this a lot online, but it just doesn't seem to be an issue for most Canadians. I'm assuming that it's quieter here. The ones that I've driven are certainly not offensive.
How's the leg room?
I wonder what's the difference between both when speaking of highway MPG (when the hybrid system does not help so much anymore)
The Hybrid system continues to help on the highway. The Tucson wins no matter what type of driving.
@@BrantfordKia Interesting! I thought the help would stop at certain speed. Thanks!
@@diegovn If you look at the fuel mileage ratings, you'll see that it's lower, you can also watch the in-car display to see where the power is coming from, and you'll see electric-assist quite often. Thanks for watching!
@@BrantfordKia nice. I will explore the other videos of your channel and search more information. Thank you for sharing these answers.
Went to Hyundai Regina, SK... drove the new Tucson Ultimate and my whole family's in love but sad that we can't order :( unless we get the one at the display which the GM said they are not yet letting it go ... anybody knows where to get this nearby? lol
I believe there is a "6 month plus" wait for the 2022 Tucson, the last time I checked. There are similar wait times for other vehicles in the class, especially hybrids.
Ever experience an issue with your tonneau cover rolling back? Not sure if it was the frigid cold but my seemed to be getting stuck today when it rolled back and then when I tried pulling it out, same thing. Wasn’t too pleased considering it’s only a week old. I’m hoping it was just a one time issue 🤞🏻🤞🏻
I haven't had an issue with mine at all. I will say that it currently has a layer of ice on it right now, and that will take some work to get off before I can retract it, so it's definitely something that is a little more difficult to use in the winter with the snow and ice melting on top of it, and then re-freezing overnight. I also am having trouble with the ice freezing on the seal between the tonneau cover and the tailgate, making it tough to get down in this weather.
@@BrantfordKia so far, so good. Haven’t experienced an issue since. Could have been the ice/cold like you mentioned. Now, need to look into mudguards, my kids keep telling me I need to wash my car since the first snowfall.
@@pauldesousa2296 Hyundai has two factory options, the largest ones can be seen in any of our videos where we've used the BLACK Santa Cruz, and then there are more standard-looking smaller ones as well.
One thing to note teddy could have gone on the fold down seats in the Tucson, of course you loose second row...is teddy to simulate a person lol
Yes the ability to fold down the seats is only available in the Tucson, but the ability to hang things securely out the back of the tailgate whole driving at speed is only available on the Santa Cruz. And teddy isn't meant to simulate a person, it's just a consistent prop that we used to show how much bigger or smaller the useable space is in the cargo areas of different vehicles. Teddy is a regular in our videos.
@Digby Dooright yes I loved Teddy, wasn’t hating.
@Digby Dooright Teddy definitely has a lot more fans than me! We're like 10,000 to 1 in the complaints against me vs. the complaints against Teddy on this channel! :)
What is the wheel manufacturer as well as sizes for wheels and tires?
My Santa Cruz has "FAST wheels" model "EV03" and although the Santa Cruz came with 20 inch wheels, and can be equipped with wheels down to 17", I decided to go with 18" wheels as I think that's the best looking downsized look.
@@BrantfordKia IT's going to become a real thing to develop aftermarket goodies for these, including lift kits.
