    Everything what you should know about the fuel distributor before disassembling it. This is the heart of the system called K(E)-Jetronic. The part is very complex and you need to know what you can should and what you mustn't do at any cost! If you replaced all the parts on the injection system and you still have a high consumption, bad idle, low power, shaky running engine or internal leaks and you can smell fuel in the engine bay, if the plunger is stuck(the sensor plate won't go down or get back up), if you turned the CO(mixture) screw counterclockwise to the max and you still have fuel flow or you bridged the contacts 7&8, you unscrewed the metal hoses from the distributor and you get fuel flow coming out of the ports without deflecting the sensor plate then you should know that it's time to disassemble the fuel distributor in order to clean it, replace the ruptured diaphragm, the o-rings inside of the barrel, on and in the lower chamber of the distributor etc.

    What am I talking about?
    My topic is the KE-Jetronic injection system which I try to demystify as much as I can.
    For all of you to understand the system in brief - Developed in 1973 and being mounted into cars up to 1993 as it went in history. But why these to letters!?(KE) K(from German "kontinuierlich" meaning continuos, without interruption) the MECHANICAL injection system on which the fuel starts flowing from the fuel tank sucked by the FUEL PUMP and delivered to the FUEL DISTRIBUTOR which sends fuel to the INJECTORS while the majority of it flows through the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR through its return line back to the fuel tank again. The letter E(electronic) has to mark the electronic sensors (the developement starting from early eighties) which had to inform the ECU about the current state of the engine so that the ECU(Electronic Control Unit) then could create current signal in mAmp(miliampers) and send it to four crucial components for the system - the EHA(the electro-hydraulic actuator,a unit consisting of a magnet, an electromagnet and a baffle plate) which had to fine tune the engine in each of its phases, the ICV(the idle control valve), the unit which was predicted for the engines perfect idle, the X11(the diagnostic socket) where the duty cycle(the ideal mixture) was adjusted and the X11/4(the code reader) - the socket which from any codes were read if present using an OBD1 scanner.
    An extraordinary injection system which could be fully repaired in your own garage using a multimeter and a pressure gauge only for its fine tuning, together with some common tools.

    Is it good idea to just ultrasound the fuel distributor? I don't want to rebuild(disassemble and reassemble ) the fd

      I have already had a guy on the channel that wanted to clean the fd with vinegar without disassembling the fd. Let me make you a comparison concerning that statement - that would be the same thing as if you wanted to take a shower - could you wash off everything entirely from your body without taking your clothes and socks off!?

      Hello and thanks. If you want to experiment you can try with 3 1/4 turns. Set it up until you get 100ml per minute per section on full throttle while on idle you will have to get 4ml per section and the tolerance to be as lower as possible(below 10%, so below 0.4ml) as lower as possible. Ciao tutto bene grazie. All'inizio, mentre rimonta il distributore, dovrai far funzionare la pompa del carburante (non colleghi i tubi che portano agli iniettori) per assicurarti che il carburante non esca dal distributore. Se lo fa allora qualcosa non va con il diaframma o con 4 o-ring neri sulla canna. Ok, allora mandami quelle foto su Instagram. Qualcosa di strano sta accadendo sul mio gruppo fb. Un video anche se possibile.

    • @mercedeske
      @mercedeske  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello, better set it to 3 1/4. This doesn't mean you are going to get a good idling so as you mount the distributor you will have to find 6 glasses and a measuring cup(100ml). You will have to do the quantity comparison in one minute. In that minute you have to get 4ml fuel on idle per section - the maximum discrepancy between the cylinders must be 10% at most, the lower the better. The ideal is 2.5% or 0.1ml (5drops of fuel). The closer the numbers to each other the better your car is going to be idling. Fingers crossed!

    Hi I just want to ask what is considered high fuel consumption for these m102 engines like in L/100km or mpg etc?

    • @mercedeske
      @mercedeske  Před 3 lety +2

      Well, it would be 12l/100 at about 80km/h on the freeway or 18 in the town approximately. It doesn't mean that the fuel distributor is the issue-the issue can be injectors, oxygen sensor, sensor potentiometer, the fuel pump. Regarding the fuel distributor, it should be the very last thing in the row to check if everything is replaced and the consumption is increased.

      @@mercedeske thank u for the reply. So my car is a w124 230e and I have replaced injectors, intake manifold gaskets, etc. My fuel consumption is not bad at all just a little on the high side that's it. I know my accumulator is gone so I'm replacing that in the near future. The car has hot start problems. Would the fuel pressure regulator be a culprit aswell?

    • @mercedeske

      @@vishnukalainesan The fuel accumulator. Connect the pressure gauge to the distributor when the car is warm. As soon as the car is warm stall the car. The pressure MUST NOT FALL UNDER 3BARS IN LESS THAN 30 MINUTES. That's how you will know that your fuel accumulator is bad!
