We’ll, Miss Marple is absolutely, 100% trustworthy who can do no wrong. I have faith that I am in good hands as she’s taking me to an isolated, secondary location. She promised cake! Nothing sketch about that!
I have an ongoing theory that Miss Marple is a master criminal who arranges for people to commit murders for her. You pay her, she'll use her network to gently suggest to people that they should commit the murder you asked for. It's subtle, so the murderers always believe it really was their idea. Thus, she never has to get her hands dirty, and gets the thrill of looking all smart when she 'solves' it. 'Nephew Raymond' is a code name for her operatives, and all those previous maids she's always visiting are also working for her.
I mean, I'd also be down for "Ms. Marple is a supernatural being magically pulled to places where a murder is about to occur in order to solve the case and see the killer brought to light" but this also works
I didn't hear the "fig" part of fig cake at first and only heard "maybe you shouldn't have eaten that cake" with that smile and that was RIGHT after i ate some cake admittedly that made me stop for a second there 😅🤣
I adore cozy murder mysteries. Go ahead, write one staring yourself. Don’t kill yourself off right away, you are too funny. Let us know where you will be streaming!
I often wondered the same thing about Angela Lansbury's character in 'Murder She Wrote'. We're in an aging society because all the old dears are sorting us out. It goes back to the movie Arsenic and Old Lace.
I do wonder about the whole "cozy" mystery genre, where people who run bakeries, bookstores, or B&Bs keep "stumbling over bodies" - usually in small towns where one murder would get a lot of attention, never mind a rash of them. I think it's because they work in retail: if I had made my career having to deal with anyone who walked through my shop's door, I'd want to start murdering people left and right, too! (Not sure what Mrs. Marple's excuse is. Maybe she commits murder just to show how no one pays attention to sweet little old ladies.)
I've been listening to the audio book of 'A Murder is Announced' read by the legendary Joan Hickson who played her on TV in the 80s and 90s on the BBC. The murders didn't happen in her village this time but in a village she was having a holiday in. It just so happened that her distant niece, the wife of the vicar lived there too and she could help with the investigations. In the book the chief inspector referred to old dears (as we would call them today) as 'old pussies'. Well I can see why they removed it from TV adaptations. Words can certainly change over time.

Her friend, Hercule Poirot, also

My mother loved the BBC show. I’d have been a lot more interested if I’d known there was a meta-subplot where Miss Marple was the real killer…

Mrs. Marple. In the library. With a fig cake.
"is that nobody listens to what you're saying" perfect

Why do I have the feeling that Miss Marple would have LOVED to have said these things and gotten away with it?
Blimey, I hope Miss Marple grew out of that squirrel-stoning phase 😬

This felt like a huge channel when I found it, and then I saw that the comments were usually in double digits...
I like her, she seems like such a sweet old dear. But she does go on, poor old soul.
Ha, love it, the world is crying out for a dark Miss Marple film, you'd be perfect
"There's nothing random about the murders, that's why."
Little old ladies with loads of time on their hands, surrounded by murder and intrigue, are my prime suspect every time.
