    Why you must use a tesselated mesh, can we apply this directly to a UE4 landscape ?

    • @ue5mentor
      @ue5mentor  Před 3 lety +5

      A tesselated mesh is needed because you paint on the vertices of a mesh, if your mesh wouldn't be tesselated and you would just use a simple plane for example you could just paint one vertice for each corner which will give a very bad result.
      You can't apply this on a landscape cause you need to use the landscape layer tool from the engine, otherwise it comes to various issues regarding the landscape.

  • @mnoart7444

    • @ue5mentor
      @ue5mentor  Před 3 lety

      The process on using this same material on a landscape is a completely different one cause you need to setup various layers which result in one final landscape material. I've put that on my list of tutorials to make 😉

    • @ue5mentor
      @ue5mentor  Před 3 lety

      I didn't have this issue yet so its hard to tell what is causing it. Maybe check the UE4 logs to see if there are some more details on this crash. Also make sure to use the latest graphics card drivers, just to double check if old drivers is not cuasing this. You can also verify the engine files in your launcher to make sure that there are no corrupted files or something like that. Also check your hardware stats maybe your computer comes to its limits and can't handle it anymore. Just some thoughts on how to find/fix the problem.

    • @ue5mentor
      @ue5mentor  Před 2 lety +1

      yes you need a mesh which has a lot of polys/vertices already in order to paint properly on it. Because what you actually do is to paint the layer data on the vertices.

    • @ue5mentor
      @ue5mentor  Před 2 lety

      You're welcome 🙂 If I understand it correct you want to copy the painted vertex information in a texture right? I think you can't do it right away, the only thing which is supported by the engine already is to copy and paste the color data to another mesh but saving it as a texture is not included in UE4.

Still stuck with my material being flat when painted on. Any idea how i can change that?

    • @ue5mentor
      @ue5mentor  Před 3 lety

      The texture of your mesh changes when painting on right? Only the displacement isn't working on the mesh?

      When you open the instance, do you see any displacement happening in the material preview at all?

    • @adamtherealone
      @adamtherealone Před 3 lety +1

      @@ue5mentor hi there. Yup exactly as you said, inside the material there’s a visible displacement, and even when bumping displacement to 40-70 there is zero effect when actually painted. The texture shows up on the mesh, but no height differences can be seen

      it is a standard plane which is divided in lots of squares. how you usually do it is to create a plane and then create horozontal and vertical edges on the whole mesh. There should be already an option for this when you create the plane. if not let me know and i'll quickly have a look in blender to explain it to you.
