This video for today is about why I am checking out from US Society and what are those many reasons why I choose to do so. I actually filmed this episode back in July of 2022 but never released it to the general public.

Totally agree, Doc. I put 3 decades into teaching elementary school in Arizona. 3 years ago, my very intelligent principal, 15 yrs working with him, asked me if I was ready to retire 😮 He knew I had an ongoing LDR with a lovely filipina. He also knows me very well, and told me he didn't think the changing agendas with Covid, LGBTQ+ issues that were begin to push in, etc., he said I should consider retirement in the Philippines as soon as I qualify. Told him I'd look into it...I did...and I retired as of May 2021, prepped myself for when I could make the move. Feb 2022 I landed in Manila, straightened out my resident retirement visa, and we moved to Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, April 2022. My blood pressure has dropped, I'm inherently patient, have a sweet lady that is an incredible cook, adopted a stray dog, live 200yds from the best public beach in the Philippines, and on and on. No regrets, no looking back. I see the state of affairs in the USA and thank the Lord and Mr. White every day for being blessed in the Philippines 🇵🇭 Sorry for the dissertation 😂

I just spent 5 weeks in the US. In the last ten years I have visited 3 times. Never more than 10 days.
The place is crazy.
I really have nothing in common with the people there anymore.
I missed my wife and the life I have here in the Phils so much. The Philippines have become my home. I will end my life surrounded by people I ĺove, not by strangers that live next door.
Great advice, the Philippines is truly a less stressful environment than anywhere else I have been. I'm currently working in Estonia for the summer and feel about the same way here. Limiting my access to social media and the news is a key to a less stressful lifestyle.
One of the trainings I received as part of my previous occupation had a smart rule of thumb. "Although you may be surrounded by poisons on a daily basis, do everything you can to limit your exposure. By doing so it will help protect yourself from damage through exposure"
This is probably your most important video...I felt my stress and anxiety level drop almost to zero when I left the US for Asia over 20 years ago. The things people obsess over (wealth and status and consumer goods) is now so foreign to me. The other thing is no longer being exposed to the constant and relentless advertising and marketing on every public space, at every event, and the on every electronic device 24/7 is also a big factor in regaining one's sanity!
I had forgotten about the amount of advertising until I returned last month. Been tuned out for so long it was overwhelming!
My stress drop in half when i retired the older you get the less you care about BS in states or anywere else

Funny that you mention advertising because a lot of Asia has more ads than the West. They even have trucks driving around blasting loud ads, which I’d never see back home. Not that I’d trade here for moving back home.
@@PerfectSense77 True, but for me they're all in Thai, as is all the other advertising media, so it doesn't affect me or my consumption decisions 😆

Having worked in and around the media in the U.S. for 30+ years (and working now as a Public Information Officer for the WA State Dept of Health), I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment about tuning out U.S. media and the toxic culture of the U.S. today. My partner, Miana, who is from the southern PH and living here with me in the US cannot wait to retire to PH. We are soo ready but will wait a few more years. Wholeheartedly agree with what you have to say. I'm British, but haven't lived there for 20 years, now happily retired in the Philippines. The things I see & read from the West could actually be depressing if I let them worry me, which is why I find myself viewing news websites etc less & less. Just out of interest, were you at the Waterfront Insular? If so we got married there 12 years ago 😊
Although I retired 6 years ago at 57 and I’m still living in the US, I wholeheartedly agree with your perspective. Ive been to Thailand 30 times since 2005 for compassion projects through my employer and a foundation. When out of the US, life is incredible even when Im sleeping in a bamboo hut in a refuge camp or between two trees in a hammock in a remote mountain village.

Excellent video and great points. I'm here in the PH and living in the province. You are so right about the aggressive and in your face media back in the states. I don't watch any tv here and you just motivated me to tune out of the news on the internet for at least a month. You nailed it though. Insane is the right word for it. Like you I'm checked out no stress. I have been here in the Philippines for 5 years. The only way I find out about stuff is when one of my friends in the states tell me about it. I love it here and have no plans to go back to the states. I make the 14 km drive down the mountain to Toril twice a week. Driving here is the only stress in my life, And yes I drive here, I own on older multicab (a mini truck) she runs just great.
I like the place where you are now, natural air and simple living Doc. Laway , stress will just pass away easily.
Even when i was deployed to Afghanistan in 08-09, i never watched the news or cared. That was one of the blessings in disguise, i never worried about news or current events.
I have not watched TV ,news in the 10 months I have been here and I'm so glad

When I used to visit my country from America I was so relaxed but the minute I arrived in America my stress and worries of bills got me sick stressed and anxious and my peace was gone
I just came back from the Philippines. I don’t watch TV there because of so much advertising. The ads run at least three times as long as a news or show segment, it’s insane!

This is such a good video thank you for sharing. I have only been in the Philippines for 2 months and when I go in November it will be for 2 1/2 months I am super excited to unplug from the craziness of western society. Unfortunately my wife wants to see the us so it will be atleast 3 years before I can get there permanently.

I really like your content,Your observations about returning to America are pretty much spot on what I experienced living in Thailand for 5 years then returning to the states. After 3 years back in the states I’m headed to Davao City area to permanently retire in the next 3 to 4 months. Once again, I really enjoy your channel.
Try to visit Baguio City in northern Luzon as well..make it on October- January...
Thanks for the nice video. I arrived here in Davao del Sur in May and I love life here. It is different from what I expected, but this is maybe something you should always expect when moving to a new contry.
I am still learning to become more patience in some situations, especially since me as a north German, I am used to be on time always :D

Sooo true! I quit watching the news. Instead I selectively read the news. Just pick and choose what I want to know. Too stressful! I listen to music, which is soothing to the soul. Walk away from chaos…do something more meaningful with family and close friends. It’s really up to you how you navigate your life. Surround yourself with positive vibes. I lived all over Asia and Latin America easy with my modest western money but watching the people living around me , I say they have as much rat race or more. Look at retail workers. Gas station , big box , pharmacy , whatever. 10 hour days 6 days a week is the norm. And they share housing. They seem to get along better than we do also. I am semi crippled at the moment and am at my room all the time and the couple that manages the hotel are together all day every day. Other family , mostly 16 yr. old girls clean the rooms in a team , having fun. In 3 weeks I have not heard a single harsh word. It is nice to see.
I stopped taking the papers, listening to the news and am more at peace now
I'm planning to leave the "US-BS" behind in the 3rd quarter of 2027... IF NOT EARLIER. I dropped Cable & limited my "News intake" in 2020. The only thing I follow closely is Budget & Public Employment issues in California. Once I retire, I'm dropping that too.
What kind of work is a available to a foreigner from the west? How about Church/Christian work or congregation?
You make a lot of sense. The culture war nonsense has no place in politics but apparently it's easier than creating a platform
So people react to it like a sporting event. What they should do instead, is make absolutely clear to their politicians that they have no business interfering in personal cultural issues and they need to manage the country, instead.

true, indeed... which is why while still living in the states, I don't watch or listen to the radio news, or commercials, or not even movies on TV, just movies on DVDs with no commercials obviously... and I distance myself from people trying to drag me into political debates...and I am less stressed out because of this... except when I see the gay pride parades, and gender fluid people that bother me with their mantra, while I can't bother them with what the Bible said about that... of my, and to think of it the founding fathers started with a simple principle printed on the dollar bill, "In God We Trust"...
I am retired and living in Cavite. I am very happy here. No stress no negativity. I still find myself looking for the latest tragedy but my curiosity has grown less over time. It doesn't anger me at all like it used to. The negative media now makes me smile knowing that I am no longer there. The more of that nonsense I hear the more I appreciate my happy life here. I have no intention of ever going back there. You are spot on sir. The farther you distance yourself from the rat race and rift raft the easier it is to find happiness.
Yes, I agree with you about the media (left or right leaning) making or adding to stress. I just back to Ohio from 6 months in the Philippines. I am very careful now what I watch or listen to. I will be returning to the Philippines asap - sadly, it might be a year or two when I fully retire...

Excellent video and the media noise is overwhelming in the US. Only streaming content, but the advertisers all moved there as well … but have not watched news for a number of years, it is sometimes hard to stay away from enlightening oneself when preparing for retirement, what roadblocks or traps one could hopefully avoid. I want the simpler life, but I have become accustomed to some conveniences that will be hard to let go of. Like A/C. And good coffee!
That's one of the best parts about moving abroad.......none of the drama from your home country won't matter one squat. And the other good thing about being a foreigner living in another country is, you can't get involved with government matter one iota, cuz you're not a citizen 😁. As a foreigner you just need to stick with enjoying your life and not bother with local politics and/or drama. It's actually very peaceful not having it in your life. Unfortunately politics in the US has become very divisive amongst citizens, and it's killing the culture to a certain degree.

Yes I find myself seeking information on the political issues and also have to be interested in the economy because that is where my bread and butter comes from but because I am a disciple of Christ and I live my life according to the word of God and have followed bible prophecy for many years I have a faith and hope that many do not have knowing that my great God and savior Jesus Christ is about to return sometime soon to take away His church. We need something with some grip that we can grab onto.. do not need the regular old BS.. always liked you and your channel but sometimes you have to break out of the mold and tell it like it really is and also tell us what we really need to know.. Get a vehicle and go up in the mountains of Valencia and Sibulan and especially sibulan.. check the weather report on your phone and it always cooler in sibulan than it is in Valencia.. always liked you but you have to start thinking out of the box.. the dumaguete and Philippine CZcamsrs are so in the box.. this could be a big plus for you but I am quite sure you will not do it because you do not understand that even though as smart as you are there is so much that you do not know..😎🤗😱
I'm still stuck on the left coast of the West, can't retire just yet 😫 A few years ago I ditched cable TV service....my mindset improved considerably....95% of broadcast content is just garbage in opinion. I only rely on internet now and absolutely no social media (except CZcams). The "sniffle syndrome" of 2020 also opened a door to work from home full time, so I've distanced myself from office politics and PC culture. Ideally I want to live in another country but I'm not financially ready to retire. A few more years and I will be - the finish line is within sight 👍
This makes it sound like you're running away from the US and Western world and pretending they don't exist rather than gravitating toward something better. You seem to acknowledge they have those very same issues here in the Philippines, but you are merely tuned out because you haven't learned the language. Regardless if you ignore the world around you, these are real issues that must be solved and it isn't true in all cases that there is nothing you can do other than getting mad. 100% right attorney. I can't believe that Americans still talk about the past election. In the past, after election, Americans moved forward that people even have forgotten who the running mate of the president. This time, it is crazy that democrats just keep on mentioning the running mate's name over and over and over again! It is very divisive that it even breaks up a family. Sisters against brothers, sometimes husband against wife or children against parents. It stresses people. I know I am.

I have never been to the US. I lived in the UK until age 30, lived in Australia until age 42 and now semi retired. The US seems horrible from everything that is said on CZcams. Why does everyone stay in the US?

Best thing in the Philippines is no Feminism. My BP meds are 1/2. I can have a young girlfriend and my mother won't talk to me 😅. It's all good.
No racism in the Philippines. No one fights or sensitive enough to get offended when we call them "bakla". In fact most like that. Calling them that is nothing to them. If someone did a manicure and can't recall his name, we say the "bakla" that works there and that's it. The education in there is nothing but the real curriculum that makes the children prepare to move up.
So you retire and you feel less stressed, who knew? So essentially ignorance is bliss? Well TV is not mandated, you can actually do something different, like go outside or get a hobby. As far being being surrounded by toxic people, not understanding the language is actually detrimental to your health. The truth is you are happier somewhere else and now you feel you have to put down the alternative. In my opinion you are preaching a false narrative.
