Right on, but # 5 (hunting) can be applied to many other things that men or women would miss. Any hobby’s we have normally can not be done in Philippines, (I restore old radios) can’t do that in Philippines, no old radios! Etc on many of the hobbies that we have. Also, missing family is huge problem, as I am also married to a Filipino, so either she misses her family or I do. And now July 2023, the price of tickets has gone up again.
I am a Filipina, the worst things i dont like in the Philippines is the overwhelming noise, the trash and the people who has no respect for other people's properties. Good point to shate Sir. God bless 🙌

Right now here in US is a lot homeless and trash worsts than the Philippines everywhere the trash price and rent is high now it’s not good to live here right now here in the US

Noise and trash? Maybe u live in slum areas. My orovince in tbe PH is clean and peoole are decent not noisy. There is no trash and they collect garbage. Mayor in tbe municipality is very strict in cleanliness.

I'm from Rochester NY area and there is much to be missed here. But, the excitement of starting a new chapter in life has it's excitement too. I don't hunt anymore, but love to fish .
I am working on getting access into my trust account ( strawman) to have more purchasing power and offset all bills. My only question is does the Philippine government have relationship with the IRS HERE.
I forget the amount of money you are allowed to earn outside the US before it is taxed in the US. The last time I actually worked abroad I believe was in about 2010 in Saudi and I think then we were allowed to earn over $70K before it was taxed. If you have a job or business here you will be required to pay Philippine income tax. I'm not sure if that answers your question, but it is very difficult for a foreigner to be permitted to work here unless he is a permanent resident, and what American is going to want to work for $8.00 A TEN HOUR DAY? Yup, most people here make about 350 pesos a day, and it is a 10 hour work day for your $8.00. The wages are lower in Bukidnon than they are in Manila area, by law.
I'll be back in Malaybalay, Bukidnon, next year this time. I've had to enroll my son, who I just got custody of after the death of his mother, and we are in Tagaytay for the upcoming school year, and then back to Malaybalay. BTW, they are building an airport in Maramag, so pay attention to that if you do decide to stay there.
Thank you for your information. You are right on the 5 things, we usually see things on our point of view. Living anywhere has/had its positive and negative points. Most times you have to understand and view things; like you, regarding the sun you know now what to expect and you put your bandana on 🙂. Be safe always and regards to your family 🙂
I moved to the Philippines in 2006 2 yrs after I got out of grad school on the east coast. The south don't have designated hunting grounds, but here way north, there is one. They allow hunting here as deers, and wild boars causes accidents at night.

I live in Texas in a beautiful & quiet neighborhood of mostly retired neighbors. At times we have drive by shootings. And, shooting at a stop sign and traffic intersections. It’s a quiet town with a danger under tone.

The humidity especially Manila ,it pours off me as soon as I leave the air conditioning,I have just arrived after a month in Bangkok and in Thailand it was humid but did not sweat 😅 as much ,I find the Philippines people no where as friendly and welcoming as Thai people,Thai food is much better.Thailand you can smoke da herb and woman are prettier than Filipino women.
Also you need a lot more patience here. ,you must lineup for everything especially in food places .

I've lived in Cebu for about seven years now from the U.S. I'd like to add a few items to your list. First, I can't find many grocery store items I like. For example, Smuckers Boysenberry jam, sour cream is hard to find, hot dog and hamburger buns, and a few others. But many other items, such as bananas are much better here. Also, the traffic in Cebu is horrendous-- worst in the entire Phils.

I find those food items available easily enough in Angeles City. Clark Pure gold, SM hyper mart (clark), S & R, I haven't tried Landers yet. Never looked for Boysenberry. Smuckers JIF I found N.P. I ordered Mott's Clamato juice as I prefer a Caesar to a Bloody Mary. Ordered a case. I forgot about it and about 2 months later it came.
Manila metro has worst traffic. No debate.

I can understand the traffic part but I find it weird that you’re complaining about the lack of a specific jam, sour cream, hotdog and burger buns. You’ve just said that you’re in Cebu but you are looking for American store items. The lack thereof is because they are not our food of choice, thus, there’s a lack of demand lol

On the electronics, as FYI make sure it is dual system. 120/220v stamped on the power unit. Everything I brought was good without converter, except my 7yr old Laser Printer she fried... Heck had over 30,000 prints from it.
Funny…hunting is a big thing here in the USA. Back in the 70s, yes! Hunting was possible. Mindanao was so lush and lots of animals to hunt. Today? Too many people and modernization/infrastructure…Davao has changed a lot! Possibly in the mountains of Southern Cotabato…you never know! Good luck and enjoy the warm weather! First of all I have to give you the tarzier award (we have that in the call centers) (tarziers are nocternal) you can switch to fishing deep sea marine.... It's still hunting.
Yes the one thing i miss is the close proximity to my kids. Although i didn't hear from them or my brother very often. I hardly ever hear from them now living in the Philippines! My parents are deceased. I do miss the convenience of being able to find and get almost everything you want in the US. In the Philippines, It's either "out if stock sir" or they don't have it at all or they don't know what you're talking about. Most times i have to resort to Shoppe. There's only a certain type of music they have here. They're not big on rock, heavy metal, progressive rock or country music. Its always the boom boom music or real nice soft music. Something my parents woukd like listening to. I miss having a nice shower with good water pressure and not having to deal with blackouts.

hi doc , the biggest complaint i have is the cost of the flights to davao , before covid i was paying between 40 and 45 thousand PHP , these days its hitting 100,000 from London , i used to go out to davao 3 or 4 times a year ,but now im thinking of cutting that down to twice a year
I agree with you completely. The airfare to Davao has risen a bunch in the last year since they reopened travel. Even within Asia traveling to Davao has gotten a lot more expensive.
everything has doubled, under the excuse of COVID and keeping up with the inflation... except salaries, pensions, and any other income... it's the plan of the "elites" to exterminate the world's population since they consider we are too many using their resources...

Timezone deficit does cause problems especially trying to conduct things during business hours and the sun can be an issue but that's why i spend most of my time when outdoors at a swimming pool or i try to go to the sea where you can stay cool especially the breeze coming up off of the water will keep you cool even if you are not getting in. Something you didn't mention that it might be contingent upon where you live the locals not ALL but I am approached and often asked for money, give me money, give me money personally I feel disrespected and have told some people here that I am close to that where I am from it would be like asking for a fight hahaha I might laugh but it is not a joke. keep your your reports coming I am learning from you.

Dr. Laway I live in the urban city of Dallas, metro pop of 8.2 million. At least once a week I hear the rapid shots from a Glok within 50 meters of my apt. I am 65 and I do not know if this man can quickly change to accept the living conditions in Davao or the Philippines. I am comparing Davao City to Cagayan De Oro. CDO has twice the annual rainfall of Davao but I think living in Davao would be more expensive than living in CDO. I do have clinical depression and I do not know what will happen to my mental state with such heavy rainfall. I have a million questions for you but I will reduce it to only a few. The woman I want to marry lives in CDO. We have not met yet and that is scary but we have communicated for 2.5 yrs and I THINK I know her. I am a retired software professional from North Dallas but my retirement is only $2,500/month. I married a young and beautiful and intelligent Filipina in Cebu City in 87 and brought her back to Dallas and then realized she only married me so she could get her green card. That did ruin my life. Dr. Laway I know there is a tall mountain near Davao City. Is there a modern city as Denver on that mountain. At 5000 feet above sea level I could breathe w/o any problem. In Davao City most homes are within 1 or 2 feet of each other, I do not know if I can live like that. I want to leave the western society of Dallas before it drives me nuts. Yes Dallas has more millionaires and billionaires than any other city in this country. I want to leave the money/power life in this city. I know you understand. I went to the Philippines in 87 and 89 and I love the people there. TIA for all replies.
Hey Roy, most of the places in larger cities I have been to in the Philippines have very small lot lines as you pointed out. You can find larger yards in some subdivisions, but the rent increases dramatically. CDO is slightly cheaper than Davao on many fronts, but not considerably. The Rainfall in Davao City is actually pretty considerable. Most months I have lived here we have more days with rain than those without rain. That being said the rain does not last all day long. I have been to several towns in the Mountains that climate wise are amazing in the Philippines, however access to grocery stores and other items were limited without a long drive, so there are trade offs. I am not aware of anything I would call a modern city in the Mountains on this island of Mindanao, but I have not been to every city on the Island. My best advice would be to visit CDO for a few weeks to a month and see if it is a place that you would like to live. Living in the Philippines or really anywhere in SouthEast Asia requires adaptation and it is certainly not for everyone. I always advice a trip to explore the area before going all in and moving to an area. I do like CDO and it has some benefits that Davao does not and some things that I prefer in Davao.

Dr. Laway, yes hunting is not here in the Philipines for you. we do hunt in ou provinces thru small village but not often. because we only hunt wild pigs and they are not around always in the forest. also we hasve few wild pigs and its hard to hunt for one coz' no right gear. you're right you missed hunting in the USA. Family you both missed your family andher too, the other way around. but you know that before you got married so, deal with it. are you sure you're always with your family? sorry? but, I married a caucasian here in canada and he does not spend time with his family, not much. once in three weeks. anyway all the five's that you don't like living here in the Phils. are true. your own opinion. For me are electronics, computers n camera and they're all from our neighbor china.

Regarding the hot sun, now you know why Filipinos buy skin-whitening solutions.
Find a local group of Filipino fishermen, foresters, and hunters who will be willing to take you on outdoor trips to have a wildlife adventure of some sort.
They buy skin whitening products because they are ashamed of their brown skin, and want to be white. It is a carryover from the Spanish days when (just like in Spain) the white skin was a mark of high social and economic status. Of course that means that I generally get my pic of the (less desirable to Filipinos) lovely Morena ladies.

Overpopulation is a major concern in the Philippines. Consider that the 3 million miles² _continent_ of Australia has only 26 million people, while the mere 0.1 million miles² archipelago of the Philippines has 117 million people.
Understandable.
I've been here for five and a half years, for one thing the time difference is the major one because we're nearly an entire day ahead. That makes taking care of business in the US that much more difficult. For the last 4 yrs I've been in Cebu but recently moved to Cavite. The traffic here is horrendous as someone already said. Traffic, standing in long lines, waiting for service, and also Noise pollution are all things one has to come to terms with in order to live here. It doesn't mean we like dealing with it but we've accepted to the extent that we don't expect a change, same thing with littering but we live here because we choose it and because of our relationships here.
Just be grateful and thankful that in everything is blessings from God for us to enjoy.

If u r not lazy and have little amount and have iwn house, Philippines is one kf the best country to live in. Weather nit too cold, food most are organic, fresh, beautiful nature, have more freedom than in other countries, people are friendly, unlike in other countries they are rude, unfriendly, selfish name it and almost all negative traits thwy possess bec of mental disorder. People in other countries mostly in western and other european countries have depression, anxiety, bipolar. One old kady who is american, italian told that most of tbe NUTS, Koo koo. That’s what most peoole noticed that are living and lived and orher citizens old one have said that also. I admire her honesty for saying it in front of the people.

I am only going there for like a year just to scoop up a girl then get engage and bring her back to the states. Maybe even less. That will be enough to determine if we make a good couple or not. Regarding hunting, you can still get out and explore and enjoy the outdoors without shooting animals. I am not saying I am against hunting. Just saying there is a lot of beautiful nature and mountains in the PHs you can explore without hunting.
The time difference and many english speaking people is what makes the call centers so popular in the Philippines.
I don't have much family so that is not a big downer for me.
In the future electronics may become a larger issue. My long term guru is saying that China's production may be falling off the map in the future and US companies, and others, are moving their production either home or other countires. (China was not really a chip producer, mid to high end, but an assembler)

Living, like you, in the US southeast in the summer it seems most people stay inside most of the time (AC in the summer heat in the winter) This week highs in he 90s F lows in the 70s F so maybe its Philippines practice?
Being much closer to the equator the Philippines may get more UV rays than the US because the light has less atmosphere to pass through so it may be even more of an issue. On the bright side your body can process vitamin D much easier. I wonder if anyone has looked into solar pannels for electricity or where fresh water is scarce solar stills for fresh water production? But I guess the wet season would make that less of a thing.
Being lazy, I could look it up.(rats, now I am going to have to www.climatestotravel.com/climate/philippines ) Cebu, lows mid to upper 70sF highs upper 80sF into low 90sF year round. (like eastern NC right now) I think the "wet season" differs depending on where you are.
I've posted elsewhere here about hunting but another idea came up. Are air rifles legal? There are videos of professional rat hunters in Australia, and the UK, that use air rifles. So would that work there even just for target shooting?
I am from the US and have lived in other 3rd world countries in Central and South America. So I like to add other things I don't like about the Philippines that not found in other 3rd world countries. 1. The garbage disposal system in this country is virtually non-existent. 2. Pollution. The burning of plastic and dumping sites almost everywhere I go. 3. Traffic. It is ridiculous, and I don't even know where to begin describing it. 4. Poverty. even though it is everywhere in the world, at least some countries make an effort to manage it. 5. A big cultural learning curb. Foreigners bring a lot of revenues to the Philippines. We really don't appreciate being judged by people who have never left their villages to pass judgment on others because we are different. 6. You're right about the electronics. You can't buy any computers or phones without being taxed to death. The primary reason why there is a huge digital divide among very potential Filipinos. They can't afford it. We are in the digital era.
The biggest 3rd world country is the US, have you seen the state of the place? Statistically, it's safer in Iraq and Afghanistan than hellscapes like the US! 😯

When I was there also I missed the hunting and the nearly daily shooting that I was normal for me in the US. I grew up in South Carolina.
For me it's the damned ANTS 🐜 so many different types.
I've had soooo many epic battles with ants...borax and sugar mix kills out the mound, and I've found ways to not poison the dog or neighborhood cats 😊

One of the best Philippine con lists I’ve seen, though being a SoCal boy hunting is far from being a concern for me.
There are many pros and cons with America and the Philippines, but the biggest thing with me is there are so many people in a country that really isn't that large. 110 million people in a country smaller than the state of Texas is a bit much.

It is actually about the size of Arizona, but since the people here are mostly concentrated in cities, there is lots of forest and farmland open for living. FYI, the city of Malaybalay in Bukidnon has 180K people, but a single traffic light. There are places inside the city limits where you can stand and look around 360 degrees & not see a building, road, house car or another human being for 5 miles in all directions. I'm of the impression that there may very well be people living in Malaybalay who have never seen an automobile.
I'm from Pennsylvania, and I too miss hunting. Even if we could own a gun here, there's nothing to hunt anyway. My next "big game" experience is whenever I find a body of water where I might fish for giant snakeheads. I used to see them alive in Korean wet markets, and I know they live here in Philippines, but I've not been lucky enough to find the right fishing hole.
It will NEVER be GREEN here because a majority of the people dont know what a garbage can is. They just throw their trash on the ground. Empty beverage bottles, food wrappers, cigarette butts, face masks, etc., Litter every where you go.

Yeah, there are so many things to like about the philippines and dislike as well., As a filipino, what i don`t like are (1) the very expensive price of electriciy. (2) so many uneducated drivers disrespecting pedestrians or traffic. (3) the sabong culture, so many rosters blasting their throats everywhere and many people get broke betting on cockfighting which leads to poverty. (4) so many beggars (5)many people litter everywhere that spreads trash everywhere.
You better return to USA as soon as possibe and dont come back if you feel misserable here!

I am a subscriber for a long time.But hearing all these things you don't like about our country and it seems like you are complaining rather than being grateful for all the opportunies and blessings that you have, it turns me off. We Filipinos, if not all, are always grateful even though we don't have enough. We are prone with adversities in life, with different kinds...but still we are counting our blessings and thankful for it. Be positive! I don't like hearing negativities although we are aware of it all. And though it's just your personal opinion....well then I respect that. If you have many complaints rather than being grateful for while living in our humble and beloved country, you are always welcome to leave. We don't force foreigners to stay here if they kept on complaining and looking for some stuff they are used to back to where they came from. We are happy people despite of everything. Exactly! About 1/3 of my childhood I grew up in an area where if you wanted meat (deer, fish, hogs, turkey) you had to hunt or fish. Many people grew their vegetables. Walmart was 45 minutes away and only for things people couldn't grow or hunt. Actually there wasn't a Walmart within 260 miles until the late 90s.
Some people in America hunt for a hobby just like other people like to go fishing.
You are from the part of America that would starve to death if you had to be self reliant.
Try wearing a hat instead of a rag on your head, electronics well your living in the Philippines, now you can hunt awesome street food in the Philippines oo
You can tell so much about a culture by how much trash is on the roadways.
Someone with some money needs to buy a small Philippine island and then fill it with deer - then they could organize hunting expeditions for people over there!
Interesting idea, but probably limited client base and stocking it with an invasive species would be bad, ask Austrailians. (Americans too) I think in a video it was mentioned that Dumaguete has a shooting range were you can rent guns. (love the smell of a freshly fired shotgun shell, but maybe I'm weird)
No guns is a downer for the Philippines for me. I live in the country and can take long walks armed and see no one else, though quite a few critters. Whether or not I kill anything is not the mission. I refer to them as an armed reconnaissance rather than hunting.
For Dr Layaway, and others, for hunting maybe check into the spearfishing opportunities. Laws and park boundries may be an issue in some places.

I must go to Metro Manila to practice languages (Spanish, French, Italian, German) with foreigners unlike in USA 🇺🇸. Add 1. I cannot watch NBA 🏀, MLB ⚾️ , NHL 🏒 or NFL 🏈 live. Add 2 I will have a hard time finding Latin American food other than from Mexico 🇲🇽. Nor will I find Eastern European 🇪🇺 food. Add 3. I cannot find a public library that is anywhere proficient as 1 in the USA . 📚 Bonus. Abandonment of kids by a parent or parents. In Western nations, a parent who does this goes to jail for many years. Not in the Philippines. Too many abandoned kids while parents get away. 😈

if you want to hunt go to Mindanao and hunt for Abu sayyaf members or our top most wanted criminals. That would give you the thrill of hunting.

Wildlife here, most often than not is under government protection. There was a time here that hunting is legal until a lot of our domestic animals went extinct. Our Philippine eagle is one the most beautiful eagle in the world and it's now an endangered species. The tamaraws, the Philippine mouse deer is also beautiful but now endangered because of variety of reasons including hunting

@@bullfighter42 you obviously know nothing about hunting... coyotes eat chickens and other small livestock of farmers thus are considered a pest varmint and the population needs to be reduced if they get out of control...
often farmers and/or the state/government pay hunters to clear an area of coyotes...
modern hunting is for population control and management, not for eating... eating some game like deer rabbits turkey etc is just a bonus for hunters...
