Didn’t expect that “sir, it is 2 in the morning” 🤣🤣🤣
To be fair, that would (hopefully) be the least busy time to go to the ER. Still going to be an expensive bill, whether you have it or not.
I watched this video at exactly 2 in the morning...
@@benwagner5089less busy but night crews are notoriously shorter staffed. Wait times end up always being the same as a day time visit.
honestly that'd explain the thought process of going to the ER to check if you've got type 2 diabetes after eating too much ice cream. if the thought is after like 11pm you do not trust that shit
“Sir this is a Wendy’s” kind of vibe lmao

Good one 😂

Personally, I wouldn't check till I'm type 9.
Anxiety disorders won’t let you sleep until you have an answer.
As someone with anxiety, do not omit that piece of information when going to the ER. This person did not say that, so he could just be as clueless as he was portrayed. If you have anxiety, when they say “aaaand” you go like “and I have anxiety, so even if I know it’s not logical nor likely that I have diabetes, I need help”. In that situation they have to help you, whether that involves any blood exam to calm you, or just the psychiatrist on call. Never had this particular issue for diabetes, so idk which one they’d pick, but if your healthcare is good, they’ll know what to do
@@quinnfaith3981That's good of you to post that info. You never know how many people you may have helped. Cheers, and best wishes!
Not going to get the answer after eating anyway, what you will get is a huge ER bill. Better to learn self soothing and coping skills to get control over your anxiety, dont let it own you its not your identity only one aspect of you. And before you say it, yes i have anxiety DX.
Not in this economy 😂
The next time you have an hour wait to see the doctor, please know it’s this person making you wait
I'm constantly convinced that I have diabetes because I always have this massive need to drink like a liter of water right as I'm going to bed. ...and then I realise that my ADHD ass hasn't remembered to drink anything all day. Whoops.

That's Type 3 diabetes.
I once came home dehydrated (headache, shaky, craving water) and my roomie (who always bragged about her IQ) cried when she found out- she was certain I had caught her diabetes. She went so far as to start telling me that she would be there for my insulin injections.

Then you got people like my Aunt who felt odd and in pain so she went to her doctor later that day, the doctor checked her out and said that she needed to get to emergency. Rather than waiting for the ambulance she walked out of the clinic, went home and had a sandwich, then casually drove to the ER where the doctors were losing their mind waiting for her..... because she was having a major heart attack! 😵😆
Yopr aunt must be Polish. That is such a typical Polish thing to do. The thinking is, "If can stand, walk, & talk, it's not a crisis and can wait."
Well, that also saved her at least $5k for the ambulance
Where i go its not a choice. They 1st call the ambulance without your knowing. As you hear the sirens thinking "some poor person" they come in "we called 911 for you. Its your heart."
Women do this a lot they feel a little off go lay down thinking I just need a minute then I’ll be OK….. & end up dying. My Dads Dr told this when my father was having the “ widow maker” heart attack. He said at least he didn’t wait like so many women do. I don’t kno what it feels like but I can’t hardly believe that A-LOT of women can stand that much discomfort & nt think something is wrong.😮

As someone with severe health anxiety, I’ve been in the patient’s shoes. It’s a humiliating experience knowing you are acting ridiculous and most likely annoying the staff, nurses, docs, but the anxiety is so strong you feel so out of control and like a prisoner of your mind. Health anxiety episodes are some of the most painful moments of my life.
Same here, and I am a nurse to boot. The interesting thing I have learned about myself is just how calm and rational I am when I am actually sick. It has helped me identify when my anxiety is trying to get the better of me.
Also, a couple of doctors have been really kind to me when my anxiety was really bad.
So, are you on anti anxiety meds? If so, do you actually take them in situations like this?
Same here, I almost went to the er last week :( it feels like I have no control over my life sometimes
I suffer from the same thing. My biggest anxiety is when my brain convinces me that I’m having a stroke to the point where I’m scratching and poking my left side just to remind my brain that it’s not numb. It’s one of the most debilitating things and it’s every single day
Have you asked your doctors if there is anything you can take for it? I get Panic Attacks sometimes and a low dose of Propranalol always helps. There are other meds as well, like Ativan. Then there is Progressive Relaxation Training, which is very useful. Oh, and Frequency Specific Micro Current! Has anybody here every used a journal to monitor what's going on in their lives at the time these overwhelming anxiety periods takeover? Just a thought. Such journaling records of each day are very useful with managing many different health issues. I first learned to do this for my allergies, as I would periodically get a new allergy, but have no idea what was causing it. Journalling and the methodical elimination of different possible causes, turned out to be such a blessing. My best wishes to all here!
I'd start asking exactly how he felt "weird". Was it a gastrointestinal issue or sudden bodywise issues. He could be dealing with lactose intolerance, hypoglycemia, or even a straight up allergy to dairy.

@@thermalequilibrium1370depends on the patient's scale of urgency. I've seen patients rip their hand off and apologize for bothering us and other patients screaming bloody murder for a broken finger. People will always believe that they are having an emergency because it's the worst they have been through, even if it's minor
Yeah, this one rubbed me the wrong way. My own adventures with diabetes started like this. I went to the ER because I felt like I was going to black out, and was told it was just a blood pressure issue. I told them my family had a history of diabetes, and that I had just had gestational diabetes, but I was told that disappears when the baby is born, so it can't be that. So I get sent home with no tests. I take my own blood sugar, and it's in the 400s. I go back to the ER because again, I feel like I'm going to black out, and the admitting nurse is super pissed at me for checking my blood sugar! Why did you check your blood sugar!? You need to go see your doctor, not doing this yourself! A nice doctor on rotation said I was right, the situation was serious, and if I had any insulin at home and knew how to use it, get started, and then make a doctor's appointment.
For fuck's sake, this is awful. I'm T1 and have also had really shitty Diabetes care stories but I hope you found a wonderful Endo to help you.
I seriously can't believe they wouldn't check your sugar. It's the simplest test to do and every ER has them 🤬
Why didn’t you call your primary care doctor instead??!!! Misuse of an emergency room.
@@osmos2017 - You can’t have a primary care physician. If by chance you do, give ‘em a call right now. The message always goes, “If you’re having a medical emergency, hang up and call 9-1-1…”. Because what are they going to do if she’d fallen out somewhere and hadn’t said where she was?
Feeling as though you’re going to blackout is the definition of a medical emergency. She was not a diagnosed T2 diabetic outside of when pregnant, might not have had any remaining diabetic tools after the pregnancy to check her blood sugar, and was turned away by the ER. None of that is misusing the ER! Her blood sugar was so high she could have blacked out behind the wheel, went into a full diabetic coma, had problems with her eyes, extremities, and organs. Or just died if left untreated.
I was so bad off once, before I knew I was T2 , that I woke up and my eyes couldn’t focus, my hands were shaking, and my heart felt as though it was pounding out of my chest. I just knew I was dying but was too weak to move. I think I passed out, and just remembered hoping I’d feel even a little better soon and could move to get help. My a1C was 13 when I finally got checked, with levels well over 350-700 until I was able to get it under control.
Yeah this seems weird, an opportunity for education at the least. Doesn't it start out as insulin resistance and turn into type 2?
They should do something
Me too, I found out I was type 2 by going to the ER. I had the same symptoms after eating something. Blood glucose was almost 400. I told them that I had a history of gestational diabetes 15 years ago and they should check my sugar levels. Had I not done that I could have died. A1c was 12.4.
😂 sorry but I had worse
I had a patient who came at 3 am for dry eyebrow hair 😅
Is there a cure for that? Is it contagious??😮
What?
That nerve of theirs is actually impressive
What did they expect you to do?
My wife had someone come in 'needing to know if she was pregnant' because she'd JUST had sex with her boyfriend. Like in the car. She really, really wanted to be pregnant, but unfortunately, even the most sensitive tests can't tell immediately when you've conceived. MAJOR disappointment when she was told to wait at least 10 days or till after she missed a period.
My wife wasn’t feeling too good and she fainted on me on the way to the ER. The first thing thing did was check her vitals and sugar levels. They scolded her for not taking her insulin as she was in the brink of going into a diabetic coma. She had never been diagnosed as diabetic or had any symptoms aside from feeling more thirsty (but it was the middle of the summer). I think it is possible to not know you have diabetes and to go to the ER and find out. If you’re not feeling too good, call the nurse advice line, urgent care/ER and send message to your primary.
Bro ain't telling Doc about the speed he did right beforehand. Even if you swear it's not drugs, they're still gonna test you for drugs.

I need to add i woke up one day with a number of odd symptoms and knew it was diabetes. I had looked the symptoms up for my late wife before she passed on and recognized what was wrong. I didnt have any insurance and had to wait a couple werks for my new policy to kick in. When i got to the Doctor she said my blood sugar was over 800! In the month and s half while i waited for my appointment i had cut out all caffeine, and sugars and changed my diet. The Doctor said my sugar had to have been over a 1000!!! I should have been dead.
My eyesight was just a blur and my balance was so bad i couldn't walk straight. After a week on the insulin I had recovered enough to see again and my sugar was under 500. About a month later it was under 100. So i guess i had actually diagnosed myself correctly
When people crap on self-diagnosis I'm irked. Anyone crapping on self-diagnosis should spend more time reading and hearing stories like yours.
Edit: *INFORMED self-diagnosis
@@rahbeeuh The reason why self-diagnosis is dangerous is because it can be a misdiagnosed. Most diagnoses need testing too. So it's not crapping on it it's saying hey go to the doctor for that... 😐 After all you don't go to the doctor because you think you're healthy, you go because he thinks something's wrong. R.G I'm glad you didn't suffer greater harm while you waited! Yours was a good example where an ER visit or at the very least an urgent care visit would not be misplaced for sure. And then once they screened your blood sugar they would have admitted you. Transitioning through different terrible insurance or even not being insured I understand needing to wait so that you're not bankrupted. 😨 I'm glad your body held out!
@@jessicaolson490 That's true that it can be misdiagnosis. I should've clarified that I was specifically referring to R.G's comment with T2DM. A lot of times (not all) people can kinda tell if it's T2DM. That's typically when they're aware of the signs/symptoms. Self-diagnosis is the first step. There's an awareness or suspicion that sum'n is off and if one can afford to (not always accessible) they can go to a doctor/physician for further information.

“Right this way sir we will check your blood sugar. Aaannnnnnmd that will be $5,000.”

all fun and games until his blood glucose reads HIGH and turns out he's in HHS
One blood sugar reading is NOT enough to diagnose diabetes. His blood sugar will likely be high if he ate ice cream TWENTY MINUTES AGO. If it's still REALLY high after 2 hours, then he MIGHT be diabetic. However, if he's not in DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis), that's a Primary Care Physician issue, NOT an E.R. issue.
@@Ms_Tex HHS is a medical emergency and would absolutely warrant a trip to the ER, especially if you didn't know you were diabetic so you didn't have insulin. HHS is more dangerous than DKA with a 15% fatality rate (with treatment), so I wouldn't suggest waiting for your PCP. Also note that a single high blood sugar rating above 11.1 mmol/L with symptoms is enough to diagnose diabetes.
It really would be hard to get the glucometer to read as "high" from just eating sugary foods. That would mean over 600 mg/dL for most glucometers.
One was all it took for my son. Took him to the er because he dropped 30 lb in a single day. Triage nurse asked why we were there and I just said he looks like he's dying. One blood sugar reading at 27mmg and he was diagnosed. An onset of diabetes can go bad really fast. I would never recommend waiting the 2+ weeks that an appointment takes.

I’ve been a T1D for almost 22yrs out of 38! I absolutely HATE how it’s such a common misconception that sugar causes you to be a diabetic. Our body killed our islets. My first impression of this video is that he thinks he’s a diabetic because everyone uses it as the butt of a joke and even lies telling people they’ll be a diabetic if they eat/drink to much sugar.
For everyone else non diabetic reading this…..our white blood cells attacked the islets which produce insulin. They seen them as a foreign substance. Sugar did not cause the white cells to kill the islets.
@@heathersmith1889 I at least know that since I have a teacher with type 1 diabetes my great grandpa had type 2 diabetes and LOVED sugar so I know that sugar doesn’t cause people to develop type 1 and sugar itself doesn’t cause type 2 diabetes but will cause other problems that lead to type 2 diabetes. I also unfortunately know that type 1 diabetes technically has more than one way to get it. My teacher was a super rare case that she had cancer and took medication to try and get rid of it and it had a horrible side effect on her. It shut down one of her organs so it caused her to get type 1 diabetes. I feel bad that she lost her job then only months later got cancer and became homeless. They can't refuse him a proper exam, but he's going to be right at the bottom of the list. The drs office will be open again before he gets out.
Best advice is to go home and sleep. Have a bowel movement if possible. If that doesn't fix it, THEN there's reason to seek further answers
He needs to make an appointment with his primary doctor a few hrs later in the morning. “EMERGENCY” means life or limb is imminently threatened to being lost 😒 Even if the bozo had SEVERE diabetes that was life-threatening, you’re feeling like sh*t constantly, not for a few moments after having a klondike 😒😒😒 But instead of making an appointment with his primary care doctor, the irresponsible bozo probably spent 3 sec Googling “weird after ice cream” and equated the algorithmic result with medical advice and went to the ER.
Glucose meter will show current glucose level in about a minute, A1c test will give a 3 month average glucose level in less than 15 minutes. Those two tests would be sufficient for the ER doctor to know if the patient needs to stay, go home and relax or go home and call his primary care as soon as possible.

Paid for a glucose monitor on Amazon checked my blood before eating! Yes it was high but not coma high! Ate two apples cus cus I was starving thinking apples should be ok. Went to the ER and my sugar was 460! They (VA HOSPITAL STAFF) sat me in the ER for 5 hours before a pharmacy technician brings me medication. So I had to explain to them that I wasn’t diagnosed yet to speak to a doctor! So sometimes doctors SHOULD listen to the patient.
Doctors shouldn't be listening to you if you didn't realize that apples have a ton of sugar in them.
More lives could be saved (possibly) if more doctors listened to the concerns of their patients.
This exact thing happened to my hubby, he had funk on his junk (balatenitis) then he started losing weight not by choice and severe leg pain. Couldn't get in to see our PCP so I took him to the ER. Sure enough he has diabetes, took 2 months to figure out if it was 1 or 2, it was type 2, but we are still trying to get pain under control and figure out severe weight loss. 200lbs of solid muscle to 134 wasting away. 😢
“Funk on his junk” 😂😭
@@midnighttheumbreon8857 I know 🤣 I didn't know how else to put it. 😝😝😝
😮 I am truly so sorry. They shouldn't be dragging their ass*s about this extremely visible health issue. I'd find a better place to go. I know what bad medical is. 🤦 I really hope you get medical help ASAP without a surgical er visit. 🙏🤝❣️
@@JuliaJames-zx5xy Thank you 🤗 It's honestly been a nightmare. 3 trips to the ER, 2 to Urgent Care, 8 different I wanna say Dr's. but we have yet to see an actual Dr. only P.A.s or N.P.s and having to wait weeks and months is insane, but God forbid you get mad, you end up waiting longer. I'm doing EVERYTHING I can to help him and I've helped some, but I only know so much. All tests have come back negative, except A1c, they even did a specialized test to for EVERY antibody to rule out anything auto-immune and that was negative. Honestly, with all the research and studying I've done, I should apply to take the MCATs 😪
Pain as in diabetic neuropathy? I've heard how horrific that can be as feeling like one is on fire.
Was it 'brownies' ice cream? 😂
Thank you for saying type 2!!!! My husband is a type 1 and they are totally different!❤
Both take insulin.
When his munchies got too much
My Ex would fall asleep like clockwork about 20 minutes after eating. This includes if he was the one driving us back from the restaurant. I *wish* he'd have gotten himself checked for type-2 diabetes.. 😮
Plot twist: It was type 1
Plot twist: It was type 3
They actually call adult onset T1 T3 or T1.5.
@@Avocado_DudeType 3 is considered Alzheimers disease.
I would lose my patience at that point 💀
I had a patient who came in convinced they had “catabolism and ketoacidosis” (they googled it) and diabetes, other than peeing a lot, they said they felt great. Their blood pressure was 200/110. When asked if they were diagnosed with hypertension before, they said they were, they were taking blood pressure medication for a couple of months and then stopped because their blood pressure was normal ❤ When amlodipine and bisoprolol only lowered it to 175/98 after 1-2 hours, they refused to take/be given any other drugs because “the previous drugs clearly aren’t working” and we “aren’t considering they have diabetes”, even when the patient was informed that such high blood pressure is dangerous and could cause a stroke, and also refused to leave the ER. 😂 in the end they did leave, and I wrote that the discharge BP was 170/90 and the patient is refusing any other treatment and also recommended antihypertensive therapy titration through their GP. I saw they came again a couple of days later with another doctor treating them, same thing, ended up on the psych ward
Yeah, it's called Sugar rush!
"Sir you dont have diabetes but you might have anxiety."
love the headband
So run a blood sugar on the guy and while your waiting print diabetes info for him.😊
😆Uhh, Lactose Intolerance, anyone?!? 😂
Mind night snacks hit different sometimes
My hypochondriac self didn't go to the ER but I did buy a glucometer. It said my blood sugar level is normal. 😂😂😂
Maybe it was all that pot he smoked before he got the munchies for ice cream.
😂😂😂
I was waiting for the punchline to be that he was lactose intolerant XD
Patient forgot to mention they had the ice cream a half-hour after the edibles.
Please take that seriously. Diabetes is no joke and if someone eats sugary things and feels something is off that doesn't usually happen it should be checked out.
Should be checked out during normal working hours at a non-er doctor's cabinet. Come on...
Where I am, you would go to a pharmacy for a Type 2 diabetes screen. If there were any symptoms beyond "feeling weird" i.e., constant thirst, excessive urination, vomiting etc. I would definitely go to hospital or a doctor.
One blood sugar reading is NOT enough to diagnose diabetes. His blood sugar will likely be high if he ate ice cream TWENTY MINUTES AGO. If it's still REALLY high after 2 hours, then he MIGHT be diabetic. However, if he's not in DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis), that's a Primary Care Physician issue, NOT an E.R. issue.
@@Ms_Tex actually it is worth a trip to the ER especially if they're experiencing symptoms. Diabetic comas are a thing and people do go undiagnosed.
@@Ms_Tex Depends how high the reading is. Also, if it's unusually high after eating that can warrant more tests. Even if it isn't enough to make a diagnosis it is often enough to be worth investigating further.
That’s a fair worry. I would tell him if he is that concerned just go buy a Glucometer at cvs or something as long as he was just worried and seemingly high which given his behavior here he very well could be
And my body started feeling really weird 😂 my body always starts to feel good,I mean weird around 2am 😂
I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 13 years old Turns out I was type 2 the whole time . My endocrinologist ran some labs and found out for me as I always thought I was a type one but he said I would have died if I was type one due to not having insulin for 13 years because I couldn't afford it without insurance.
I'm so sorry it took so long, there's still so much misinformation about type 2
@@alexandraghita7239 that there is . Type 2 diabetics have it just as bad as a type one . I now have diabetic retinopathy in my eyes and leg issues due to my diabetes. I also want to say thank you . I honestly don't understand how I am the only one out of my siblings that is diabetic as I wasn't the only heavy baby my mom had I was one out of 4 my brother was 10 pounds 6 ounces and I was 9 pounds 10 ounces and my two little sisters were 9 pounds and a few ounces my older two sisters were 7 pounds and a few ounces and 4 pounds and 15 ounces.
my story is the opposite. kept trying to treat my t1 with t2 pills and no insulin…. i now too also have diabetic retinopathy issues :(
“I ate a bunch of unhealthy food and I don’t feel good” like you answered your own question right there.
The vast majority of people do not feel "weird" just from having some ice cream. Hell, I am diabetic and wouldn't feel weird from that. High blood sugar usually has few to no immediate symptoms. Unless INSANELY high.
"What is not an emergency" for $100
i’m convinced if i dont have diabetes, i will get it eventually.
mainly because of genetics, it runs in my family ig, my grandpa had it, father has it, and i’m like a carbon copy of my father and grandpa
same blood type, same allergies, etc
my father’s allergies started appearing when he was 13 so did mine and like my grandpa i can’t digest some food properly
also aside from this, i need to drink a shit ton of water, i have to pee a lot even if i didn’t drink much water, tired all the time and also feel hungry very frequently but when i try to bring up these symptoms my mother just disregards them lol
From your symptoms, you should definitely be tested for diabetes.
I literally had a low. What my diabetic dad has and I can recognize as I grew up watching my dad go low my entire life, it's very specific in the movement and I felt that coming on. Got some sugar in my body and it immediately started going away. Went to the hospital the next day as my family dr retired and finding a family dr here is nearly impossible. They took my bloodsugar and said I was fine. I told then that I'd had 3 glasses of pop and a large slice of apple crumble before I came in that day. My blood sugars were perfectly normal, after a massive consumption of sugars.... you'd think it'd be on the high end, naw it was on the low end of normal... got no help and have just been making myself have sugar here and there
Lol me when clients don’t have a good reason after you ask “and”… 🙄…
wtf 😭
Don’t go to the ER for this . Call your doctor and get lab work . Don’t waste ER peoples time like that !!! I know this is a joke but still . If people actually do this , well don’t !
Wrong. It IS an emergency if you are fainting or have sudden blindness.
That welcome to the ER, is really welcoming. Lol
I have ice cream at 2am but feel fine 😂 best time for ice cream. 😊
No one else is awake...no need to share 😄
I'd ask about the weird feeling he might not have type 2 diabetes but his body could be telling him something else is wrong. Nothing wrong with listening to your body and looking for help if your instincts tell you to.
The ending was the best part 😂
As a retired ER nurse, I love this! So true!
This channel is hysterical but SO true.
I come from a diabetic family. When I went to get checked I had several key symptoms and I was correct.
It's called a sugar rush 😂
Go to the pharmacy and buy a test kit and check yourself because a lot of times doctors won't check you even when you tell him you think you have it. I had to diagnose myself and finally got the doctor to check me and sure enough I had pre-diabetes. Prediabetes
Bro its literally 2AM when im watching this rn 💀💀💀💀💀💀
Okay, hear me out, as a person with OCD I can emphasise with him
I suspect i might have osteosarcoma in my lower rib. That, or i hurt my rib while sleeping on my stomach. I live in Europe. Do I go to a public hospital or would a private one be more sure/quick ?
Russia or not Russia?
Apply crushed cabbage leaf... 😅
Go to your primary doctor!!!
My friends thought I had diabetes because I was eating more uncontrollably or passing out. Doctor said to get a blood check. Blood check came back as “you still have anemia”. Didn’t need the hospital for it but I understand the urgency of preventing a potentially lifelong condition
As someone with bad anxiety, I always am wondering if I'm healthy, and a lot of time I'm scared I have suddenly developed diabetes. Idk, my point is that it's kind of an anxiety thing. Sometimes people just need a bit of closure.
hey just wondering, is your anxiety all the time and just a present anxiety over your health or is it kinda extreme anxiety for you?
I was looking for an amogus singing felis nabidad and all I got is this💀
Definition of how your mind is absolutely your own worst enemy 😂
It could be dka, many patients presents as dka first and then get diagnosed for diabetes. Don’t ignore any diagnosis :)
Yes, but it is not an ER at 2 am. type situation. To be diagnosed, you need to have a fasting blood test and then have GTT done. If they check him now, his blood sugar will be sky-high in any case.🤱
But still you could check hba1c, admit and get fbs ppbs later. Also rbs >200 with symptoms is a criteria for diagnosis.
@@anndownsouth5070 Granted he might be in the 200s and still not have Diabetes. But what if he's in the 400s? Or 600s? And he doesn't have a clue? When he gets home and gives it a think, he might not go back to the doctor and that might put him in danger. Just give him a finger stick. What can it hurt?

You clearly have NEVER seen DKA😒😒😒😒
When you act on your intrusive thoughts … lol
*impulsive
that wasn't ice cream that some other ice
It's 2:36am, I am eating my 3rd sundae cone while googling soda alternatives because I was thinking about my diabetes risk. This spoke to me.
Or just eat less. When I get an ice cream I'll take a few bites until that satisfying taste stops then eat the other half after for dessert. 😊
I once ate ice cream, pop tarts and drank coke at the same time one night, best sugar rush of my life 😅
Sounds like you're living the dream, my friend.
Again, a quick call to the psych ward will take care of his problem.🤣🤣🤣🤣
These stories gotta be first hand experience 😂😂😂
what times is it? time to get checked
Tell me you're high without telling me.
When you feel weird after ice cream: it ain't diabetes.
There are not always symptoms of being Diabetic. I had a stroke a couple of months ago, and they tested me at the hospital only to find out my blood sugar levels were high.
